Basic Info

An abnormally docile and intelligent(-ish!) sin eater that was transported to the Source through unknown means.

History

Neryth Alroet was born and raised in a small settlement in Kholusia. Like many others in the area, her family eventually relocated to Gatetown in hopes of one day earning a place in Eulmore. At the age of 16, Neryth was chosen to serve as a general caretaker to an elderly couple whose health had begun to decline. In turn, they treated her as if she were their own granddaughter, lavishing her with both affection and material gifts. Finally, after several years, the couple decided it was time for them to ascend, and fearing that Neryth's unspecialized skill set would prevent her from finding another patron, arranged for her ascension as well.

She had, of course, been told that her ascension would be attended by the sin eaters, who were to bring her to the promised paradise. Instead, what she found on the other side of those locked doors were sharpened claws piercing her throat, and the devastating realization that she had been betrayed. Through the agony of her transformation and newfound hunger, she clung to a simple mantra, hoping against hope that she could resist her inevitable loss of identity: "My name is Neryth Alroet. I am a bonded citizen of Eulmore."

"My name is… is…"

Some time later, the forgiven vanity defended Mt. Gulg on its lord's orders, and survived to see the Warrior of Darkness defeat Innocence and begin transforming into the new Lightwarden. Acting on its instincts, the sin eater began to follow the soon-to-be Warden. Although the Warrior's life was ultimately saved and the majority of their excess light expunged, Vanity continued to follow the now-familiar presence.

What happened next, and how Vanity arrived on the Source, have been lost to time. What is known is that the woman caring for her, an Elezen named Camelia, is no Warrior of Light or Darkness, yet she appears to hold some mysterious influence over the sin eater. In fact, Vanity has since gained an unnatural intelligence, and is now more akin to a troublesome housepet than a mindless monster.
