Character

"Hunting's about a lot of things, when you really think about it. You need strength and stamina, to be sure. But you also need agility, patience, and focus. Your mind has to be faster than the arrow you fire, sharper than the point of a sword, and more disciplined than a hundred arcanists.

And there's only one place in Eorzea where you can learn all that.

I came to Ul'dah to learn from the Pugilist's Guild. Because it teaches the skills that will make me a better hunter."
-G'khara Tia

"That and because if he keeps on talking about the Twelve like he does, being in the same place as the Ossuary will save a lot of time."
-Keening Raven, Ul'dahn mercenary

Appearance

Although he looks a touch more youthful than his age would seem to imply, G'khara is hardly going to be mistaken for a child anytime soon. His hair is thick and copper-red, several loose strands of hair falling across the right side of his face. Golden yellow eyes, bearing the trademark slits of a Seeker of the Sun, sit above what is frequently a confident smirk.

Physically, his build is best described as "wiry". A faintly visible scar, roughly seven inches in length, is present along his right side albeit usually covered by clothing or armor.

G'khara is rarely seen in anything other than the traditional attire of his people, although this has more to do with him being a new arrival to Ul'dah than with any particular stylistic choice.

Personality

Although he is largely consistent in being easygoing and helpful, much of G'khara's personality is essentially the result of a struggle between who he is and who he wants to be. Uncertain about joining another's conversation, but enthusiastic about participating once he has joined. Confident in what knowledge he has gathered, but often thrown when another claims something contrary. Practical-minded in much of his life, yet with a fondness for the philisophical.

He makes no secret of his disdain for the Twelve. He doesn't deny their existence or that they have some degree of power, but he sees no point to acts of devotion. If they take any interest in the fate of Hydaelyn, G'khara feels, they certainly have an odd way of showing it.

If anything can truly anger him, it's seeing another forced to live their life in a way they don't want to. So long as they're not hurting people in the process, why should it bea anybody else's business?

Combat

General

A student of Haman Holyfist at the Pugilist's Guild, G'khara is a dedicated pupil and has thus far proven to be a swift learner.

Tendencies

Likes

  • Relaxing with a good book
  • Watching the gladitorial arena

Dislikes

  • Excessive displays of piety
  • Cold weather

Hobbies/Talents

  • He fancies himself something of a scholar, although he lacks formal training.

Other

  • The fact that he's gay doesn't always come up, but he doesn't try to deny it when it does.

Relationships

Family

  • G'dhasa Tia (father): The nunh prior to G'khen, G'dhasa was toppled when G'khara was only two years of age. As G'dhasa left the area after his recovery, G'khara knows his father only through the recollections of others. He was apparently a very polarizing figure, with half of the local tribe willing to take an arrow for him and the other half willing to shoot that arrow.
  • L'septha Tehz (mother): Originally born into the Viper tribe, L'septha left after the local nunh tried to seize power from the area's leadership and failed quite spectacularly. Meeting G'dhasa during her travels, she swiftly found herself in the "would take an arrow for him" category. She never truly abandoned her Viper identity, though, and left to find another branch of the tribe after G'khara reached adulthood. G'khara remembers his mother as someone both caring and fierce, ready to rip out the throat of anything that threatened her family and friends.

Friends

  • G'syma Tia and G'sazhi Tia (dead and missing, respectively): A pair of lovers who spent three years adventuring together across Eorzea before returning home. Alongside G'khen Nunh, served as friends and mentors to G'khara for several years, until G'syma's death and the resulting chaos forced G'khara into becoming an adventurer himself.
  • G'khen Nunh (dead): The former nunh of the area where G'khara grew up.

Enemies

Thus far, none beyond those that any adventurer can claim.

Rumors

Common Rumors

  • "He's a lot more philisophical than you'd expect from someone who punches things for a living."
  • "Why would someone go to the pugilist's guild to learn how to be a better hunter? There's something more going on, I'm sure of it."

Moderate Rumors

  • "I don't care what that miqo'te claims. That bit about the thrice-damned primals being stronger than the Twelve? That's Garlean talk, you ask me."

Rare Rumors

  • "I heard he was part of some Gryphon branch that fell apart after the nunh told his tribe to...well, it wasn't anything nice."

History

G'khara's early life was not unusual for one of the Seekers of the Sun, save for one exception. His particular branch of the Gryphon tribe had taken up residence in eastern Aldenard, close enough to Ala Mhigo to be known to the Garlean Empire but far enough away to not be a priority. The tribe's council often expressed their concern, but no consensus on what to do could be reached until the Battle of Silvertear Skies rendered the question seemingly moot. Coincidentally, it was around that time when G'khara began to realize that his tastes ran more towards the other tia of his tribe than the women.

This was not unheard of, to be sure; in fact, the council found it quite useful. They felt that such men could be trusted with greater responsibilities than most, as there was very little risk of them challenging the current nunh, G'khen. Regardless of the victor, they knew that such a challenge would cause significant upheaval. As he reached adulthood, G'khara joined G'sazhi and G'syma as the third member of this particular circle; but as the other two were involved with each other, he often found himself feeling the odd man out.

Nevertheless, over time, he would come to call G'sazhi, G'syma, and G'khen close friends. For five years he would work with them to shoulder the burdens of the tribe and plan its future. Close proximity to the Garlean Empire forced him to learn strategy and flexibility, both in body and mind. And lingering fear that the Empire would stamp out their faith as well caused greater devotion to Azeyma, which manifested for G'khara as a determination to find the truth in all things, no matter how painful it might be to gaze upon.

Nevertheless, Dalamud's fall would shatter G'khara faith. Though he was nowhere near the battlefield, he was close enough to see what happened in the heavens. He saw the power of the Twelve, acting in concert, to contain the beast trapped within Dalamud. He saw that power fail. Only whatever odd whims governed the mind of the imprisoned dragon spared Hydaelyn that day. What was the point of service to the Twelve? Even the primals of the beast tribes, terrible as they were, were stronger than that. As great a threat as the Garlean Empire was to Eorzea, they might not have been entirely wrong when they grouped both god and primal together into the category of eikon. It was a painful truth, but he had taught himself too well: he could not avert his gaze from this new certainty. Still, in the interests of harmony, he would pretend to revere Azeyma as once he did.

That harmony would not last, however. Four and a half years after Dalamud's fall, G'syma perished in a hunting accident. Blinded by rage, G'sazhi blamed G'khen for his lover's death, and out of spite, challenged for status...and won, killing the nunh in the process. Abandoning the tribe rather than be bound to a duty he had no desire for, G'sazhi fled into the wild and left his branch of the tribe in tumult.

There was nothing left for G'khara. Two of his closest friends were dead, and the third may as well have been. Rather than risk the anger of the tribe being turned on him, G'khara fled as well, eventually making his way to Thanalan and the great city-state of Ul'dah.

There, his true story would begin...
