Ghoa Dotharl
Heavy is the name Dotharl, known even beyond Othard for being of the most violent of the Xaela clans. Not the biggest of clans, but of the most brutal; they are known to not fear death, some even welcoming it; seeking it at times. Not all Dotharl share a vision of what the perfect warrior is, the many differences among the each clan like that of the many hares of a wild horse’s mane. While they are differences, they all share a common root, a foundation. Some tangle, some fall, and others grow; a complex chaotic system that was ended when the Garleans came to Othard.
Of the many Dotharl warbands that roamed the steppes was that under the leadership of warrior named Bardam. Bardam of the Dotharl was a respected and feared warrior, but like the many differences in the Dotharl culture had his own vision of what war meant. War to the Dotharl was all there was. Blood and violence were to be enjoyed; something that culled the weak and uplifted the strong. Bardam did not argue these ideals, but believed in a certain balance to these concepts: honor. Strength was important. If you lack to strength and will to do what was needed: then you were best killed to let the strong live and act. Where Bardam differed was his lofty concepts of honesty and fairness. Some Dotharl saw war, fighting, and murder all the same, but Bardam believed that a warrior should never waste steel on the weak unless necessary. Warriors were meant to fight other warriors. Strength was not an absolute and not merely in the physical.
Bardam lead others through his way of life, through the destruction of the Hotgo tribe, which he was more than proud to help with. Bardam met his death in the steppes against the forces of the Garleans, but the bodies he piled is a testament to the life he lived and the strength he believed in.
Ghoa found himself among Bardam’s warband nearly fifteen years ago when his father’s warband was nearly wiped out from conflict. He learned from Bardam and now stands to learn more. With no warband or family left, he is left to ride Eorzea hunting for the battleground that will be worthy of his death.
Demeanor: Calm, composed, and stoic. Ghoa is a warrior who puts efficiency above all else. He has little use for frivolities and luxuries; utilitarian and minimalist at heart. He is with kindness at times, a stark contrast to others who ride with the "Dotharl" name, Ghoa is not quick to fight. He certainly does not blanch at the idea of violence, he merely is not interested in fighting those he deems unworthy of his steel. He tempers his anger with thought. That said, the warrior is glad to kill in defense of himself and still takes great pleasure in fighting, killing, and winning. Ghoa is a recent visitor to Garlean, having spent most of his time traveling and honing his skills, so Eorzean culture is still confusing to him. Still, he tries to embrace the new culture as best he can, sometimes at his own disadvantage.
Nature:Ghoa is a Dotharl at heart, so he has no love for peace. As long as there are worthy beastsm warriors, and opponents, Ghoa is content. He does not believe in lies, dishonesty, or cowardly actions; as such he is quick to say as he feels and what he feels no matter the situation. He respects those that do as well and is quick to be disgusted with those that try to hide their intentions with a silver tongue.
Ghoa believes in honor, stronger than one might expect from a Dotharl. He lives his life by sincerity, loyalty, and strength. While he has many views, his basic lifestyle is boiled down in three tenants:
- Words mean little, but what little they do offer should align with your actions. (Words are cheap, lying is for cowards and weaklings, yet, deceit on the battlefield through strategy (flanking, fake retreats, etc.) is acceptable)
- Violence is a tool to cull the weak and to uplift the strong. To take action without fear is the mark of a warrior. (Killing and violence is acceptable, but action in any form is what one should strive for)
- The land changes with the seasons, as should the warrior of these lands. Strive to understand the progressions while keeping the warrior inside intact. (Technology and culture changes, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. It is important to understand these changes, even if it belies the vision of what makes a Dotharl. A wide world view makes a warrior stronger)
Religion: Ghoa once respected the a form of shamanism that paid homage to the Steppes and his ancestors. Since he is away from these lands, he has found little way to observe this way of life. On Eorzea, he respects others religion as the closest he does is call upon fallen brothers and ways of life. A bleak note that he daily meditates on.
Common Appearance: A dark skinned warrior with darker hair; Ghoa is tall and strong, the very image of how a Dotharl ought to be. He is usually clad in armor and furs; depending on what the day calls for. He has little use for heirlooms and "blessed" weapons. His weapon changing to what is needed for the fight.
Scars & Markings: A life of war has awarded Ghoa with numerous scars. The worst are that on his back, where he was wounded during the fall of his warband. Scars run down from his shoulders to his legs like claws from a great beast, yet the wounds are too clean, the flesh rent clean from cold steel. His face boasts few scars in exception for a single cut running from his left temple to his jawline.
- Tests of Strength
- New Experiences
- Strong Character
- Cooked Fish; His warband was mostly landbased and his people had a weak fishing culture
- Cowards
- Bravado
- Useless talk.
- Those who dismiss others on appearance or other petty reasons
- Garleans
- Nonsense festivals
Ghoa is fiercely strong and is trained with a number of weapons: axe and spear being his preferred means of combat. The warrior is exceptional with an axe, having two main methods: the style he and his brother learned: to charge in and grit your opponents' attacks in search of a killing blow, and the newer style he had learned on his travels: a more focused, meticulous style that put his energies on creating weakpoints in his opponents attacks. Ghoa views himself as a student of both and while he might lack the technicality of some masters of Eorzea, he makes up for it in his demeanor and efficiency as a Dotharl. Savagery always has its place on the battlefield.
Naïveté. Ghoa has no qualms with violence, but he is used to a different culture, so taking advantage of him can be done rather easily. That said, he is no fool and learns quickly after learning his lesson. He has been used before, but it is rare for a second time to occur for the swindlers. Ghoa also will believe a perceived friend even against evidence of the contrary. He is loyal until he sees "real proof".
