Gorbaltz has been missing-in-action for over a decade following the disappearance of his ship somewhere in the Indigo Deep. Now, Gorbaltz returns to an Eorzea stricken by disaster a new man, changed by the events of his ten-year exile.

▼ APPEARANCE & PERSONALITY

Gorbaltz is a midland hyur standing at a height of six fulms, three ilms. His general physique leans towards the bulky side, a result of many years spent axe-fighting, though still doesn't betray the general lankiness of a midlander. His face is sharp and intense, and golden hair rolls down to his shoulderline. Though he most likely doesn't intend it, it almost appears as if he's constantly scowling, not helped by the fact that the scarring on his face is most prevalent around the mouth. Gorbaltz is almost always seen with some kind of facepaint on.

A man of few words, Gorbaltz can come off as cold to many who are just meeting him. Those few who can say they knew him before his ship's ill-fated voyage might have known Gorbaltz as honest, devoted, and an all-around caring man. The exile was not kind to Gorbaltz's outlook, however. Gorbaltz in the present day suffers from general mental instability, a lack of self-presevation, intense depression, and a bevy of other mental health concerns. Many social nuances have been lost on him as a result of spending ten years of his life without contact with another person, and as such Gorbaltz's warlike nature can come out quite often. All in all, he's quite possibly one of the most unpleasant people you could hope to meet.

■ AXE-FIGHTING - Gorbaltz's weapon of choice since his time as a rookie in the Lominsan armada. His skills have served him well, though the question is whether or not his ten years on the island have dulled his skills, or sharpened them.

■ MUSKETEERING - Although his marksmanship with anything besides a firearm is quite lacking, as a pirate, it only makes sense that Gorbaltz is quite skilled with many varieties of black powder weaponry, such as the flintlock pistol, the blunderbuss, and the musket.

■ BLACK POWDER - Gorbaltz's years of loading cannons and cooking up explosives capable of sinking ships has served him well, as he is familiar with the intricacies of black powder itself and how to concoct potent explosives using it.

■ SAILING - Once again, obvious. Anybody given the title of captain and a ship to their name has surely wasted little time in familiarizing themselves intimately with how a seafaring vessel is maintained and operated.

■ GAMBLING - One of his preferred pastimes, he knows just enough not to thrust himself further into the depths of dirt-poorness.

■ DRINKING - He can hold his alcohol, though he often prefers a good glass of OJ instead.

■ HIDDEN CONJURY? - It's not known how, but upon his return from the island, Gorbaltz has demonstrated the use of a form of water magic that closely resembles Eorzean Conjury.

■ SOCIAL INTERACTION - Gorbaltz leans heavily towards the mentally-unstable side. He often acts irrationally, cruelly, and selfishly, and is a genuinely unlikable hyuran being. This, as you might imagine, does not endear him to many.

■ SUBTLETY - The man's more used to ship-to-ship combat than a low-key shakedown operation in the back alleys of Ul'Dah. Stealth is something he's downright shitty at.

The fact that she mentioned seeing herself with Gorbaltz and hoping to talk about it upon his return, only to die during his ten-year exile, could be considered one of the main reasons Gorbaltz is a different man. Gorbaltz had only been told of her existence by Tobrot shortly prior to his exile and, upon finding out about the deaths of Tobrot along with most (if not all) of his friends in the Calamity during his absence, sought her out as his sole living relative. Why he expresses such an interest in protecting her despite their nonexistent relationship is anybody's guess. As it stands, Lucile's (faint) resemblance to her sister is something that greatly unnerves Gorbaltz, even if he finds himself drawn to the young woman. Expand   Lancelaux Fiermont ⌠ ?♦ ⌡ Brigand ► The acting leader of the Black Chocobo Gang, the criminal outfit that Gorbaltz joined through his half-sister. His time in the organization has not been long, although his mental state has caused a fair amount of distrust in a short time among his fellow members. Expand   Kiari Shikana ⌠ ?♠ ⌡ Dancer ► A dancer-slash-bodyguard that was unfortunate enough to be in the employ of an Ul'Dahn perfume merchant that Gorbaltz had a dispute with. Gorbaltz being absolutely mental, this dispute ended the way no dispute should: with a loaded gun being discharged in the dead-center of Ul'Dah.
