Ilirra, as she is called by those she's met in Eorzea, grew up in the Tail Mountains north of the Azim Steppes. Her nomadic tribe, the Kalak, rarely interacted with other Xaela tribes, instead focusing on honing their strengths against the dangers of the mountains. Beasts, harsh weather, sudden avalanches: These were the trials that the Kalak withstood by choice and these are what made them strong. Even amongst the Kalak, a select few were chosen to undergo even stricter and harsher training that they might bring balance to the lands around the tribe's migration routes. From invading creatures causing the normal game to shift to farther and more dangerous fields, to interloping warriors from other tribes, these few would right the wrongs of their world and even the scales.

Ilirra was chosen as one of these balances at a young age. It was believed she would be great, as both her parents had taken the role as well. While her father had died performing his duty, her mother oversaw the training of this next generation. While this training would allow for Ilirra to grow strong to take on the challenges of the world, the isolation it brought would cause her to be somewhat awkward in social situations.

Near the end of her training, Ilirra began to experience a recurring nightmare. Each time she would see the camp her tribe had set washed away by a tide of black metal, leaving nothing behind. Fearing this dream to be prophetic, she bid her tribe farewell, intent on seeking knowledge that she might stop this coming flood.

She found her way to Kugane, learning all she could about the lands beyond her mountain home on the way. She developed a fascination with learning the art of the blade that the Doman and Hingan samurai wielded. But there were so many different forms, so many different weapons, she could not stop at just one. She also learned of the Garlean empire here, and how they had been sweeping across the countryside, gobbling up territory as fast as they could. This did not sit well with Ilirra, but there was nothing she could do here. Hingashi was a neutral territory and Doma was broken, ground beneath the Viceroy's heel. However, she did learn that there were people facing the might of the empire in all but open conflict on the other side of the world.

She found her way onto a ship bound for Eorzea.

Once in Eorzea, Ilirra found she had been too late to fight in the original war against the Garleans, that she had missed a great Calamity that had reshaped the continent and brought a moon down from the sky. But the Garlean presence was still noticeable and there were many brave warriors here that she could learn from until the call went out for war once more. Ilirra spent her time slowly learning the art of each weapon used in this strange land, signing up to be an adventurer for a source of income as well as a source of information on places that were out of balance. The training from her tribe had at least instilled that in her.

In Eorzea she found that her small stature often made people think less of her strength. She would often answer this by finding the largest man in the room to challenge to some sort of contest: breaking rocks, arm wrestling, wrestling, sparring, you name it. She even once threw a drunk man through a table for touching her one day (his slurring helped to earn her the name she goes by, even). Her prowess in combat drew her into a free company and somehow pushed her into a leadership role that she felt she didn't deserve.

While her social skills have not improved much in her time in Eorzea, her no-nonsense attitude towards battle often is enough to keep those that follow her inspired. If she must lead, she leads from the front, even going so far as to throw herself in front of her allies. She can be reckless and often overestimates her own strength to her detriment, but she tries to make up for it with determination and grit.
