Ivory Mountain
Contents[edit]
Born 'Wyznberk Greinharrsyn', Ivory grew up in an isolated Hellsguard fishing village off the western coast of Ilsabard, infrequently engaging in trade with the Old World; suffering the occasional sea wolf raid from Aerslaent; and submitting the occasional tribute to the burgeoning Garlean Empire. Life was unforgiving in that region, and as a result Ivory grew up into something of a rough-edged pragmatist. He left the village at a young age after several disputes with authority figures there - and where he spent the following thirty odd years, few know. He remains extremely tight-lipped on the matter. What is known is that he arrived in Eorzea shortly after the Calamity, whereupon he signed himself on with the Adventurer's Guild and immediately set about aiding the denizens of Eorzea in whatever small ways he could, helping them to rebuild and recover. When work there faltered, he would wander the land, freely offering his martial capabilities to those in need; and, on occasion, piloting airships (although where he picked up this skill is also unclear).
True to his namesake, Ivory is both white as the snow and immense as a mountain, towering over most he meets. With shoulders broad and body well conditioned to an unforgiving life, the man might easily be considered intimidating. Despite this, his reserved stance and posture is oftentimes indicative of a more recalcitrant nature - for the most part, it seems he'd rather brood his life away than ever threaten anyone. And as if overcome with uncertainty, his each and every facial expression is donned only with great hesitation beforehand; more often than not he maintains a perfectly impassive mask, perhaps to save himself the trouble of having to figure out how to 'smile'. On the odd occasion a genuine expression does cross his features, he goes to pains to hide it from others. Aside from his stature, Ivory tends to dress himself in tight-fitting leathers; sturdy boots, rugged trousers, fingerless gloves. On the odd occasion he can be found wearing a simple breastplate, although this is usually only when he actively anticipates engaging in melee combat. A pair of multi-purpose goggles is often perched upon his brow; the sort of thing one might expect to see from an airship pilot, or an engineer, or a firearms enthusiast - or all three. It is very rare to see him scantily clad. Aspects That Stand Out:
A very no-nonsense, goal-oriented individual - Ivory doesn't mess around when it comes to getting things done. Certainly he is given to a great deal of brooding in his downtime, but he never brings this into his work. When a situation gets heated, he gives it his focus, one hundred percent. Although he is cautious when approaching danger and willing to take the time to seek tactical advantage, he is no hand-wringer, and will quickly and efficiently engage with an enemy. Outside of combat or work, the roegadyn is placid, bordering on shy. He will quite happily enjoy a glass of whiskey at a bar without saying a word to anyone for the duration. If engaged in conversation, he will respond, but it will be hesitant, if not outright awkward. But with few individuals he would consider a friend, Ivory is quick to become attached to those he forms a bond with - and although he won't get any less awkward, he will certainly warm up to some rare few, given time. Even so, the man is something of a castle on an island, willing to open up about some few things but remaining withdrawn on a great many others. The majority of his past remains a hugely taboo topic, one of which he will not speak - and in his refusals to do so, often there is a hint of guilt lacing his words.
