Izayoi's story has two sides. One that is known to everyone, and the one that is known by no one, not even Izayoi herself.
Before memory loss:
Being the youngest of four siblings, two older brothers and one older sister, she soon learned that she had to make a stand for herelf and not be pushed around. Her parents worked as guards for travelers and their freight so they traveled a lot from a young age. Both parents teaching the kids on their travels, so they would be ready to join them when they got old enough. Their life was simple, but in most ways good. They got to see a lot of the world around them, meet many people, and learn quite a lot about the different tribes of the steppes and generally the different people around their world.
This life however ended rather abruptly when they were traveling trough the stepped with a large shipment for one of their richer clients, as they were attacked by the Dothral for traveling in their lands, but mostly because they wanted what they were guarding and had no intent to pay for it. They had stalked the group for quite a while, and knew just how to hit them as effectively as possible. Arrow raining down on them took out the horses pulling the cart, and several of the guards being unlucky enough to be hit just wrong. Then came the full force of the attack, slicing and cutting down their adversaries without any fear or remorse, leaving the siblings to defend for themselves, while watching their family being slaughtered before their eyes.
When they assumed them all dead, they took the cargo and left the carnage behind them, leaving a gravely wounded and almost dead person lying under the body of her sister who with her last strength protected her with her own body. How long she was there is not known, but her rescuers would say at least a day. They only realized she wasn't dead when they were trying to remove the bodies and send them back to their families. As they lifted her sister, they could see a hand suddenly grab hers, as if trying with her last strength to keep her close.
After memory loss:
She would learn later that he had been found by the Mol, and it was them who saved her life and nursed her slowly back to health. Having to relearn the basics that she once learned as a child, like walking and all type of movement in general. They also quickly learned that the loss of her horns had caused her to be deaf, and that she seemed to have no memory of her life before she woke up with them. After a council between the elders of the Mol village and their elder Shaman, they decided it might be for the best that she had no memory of what had transpired.
She stayed with the Mol for several years, learning their ways, training her fine movements, which she too this day has to focus on to get right, and learning how to read lips so that she could understand when they talked to her. She also learned how to control her own voice that she could no longer hear, much with the help of one of the village elders. It was also her that thought her meditation, to combat her own frustration with the many things she had to relearn, and simply try and let things be, and enjoying the here and now for what it was. She learned their way of interpreting the stars and the sky and she started to show an interest in learning how to cook.
It wasn't often that she went outside the village, but they sometimes took her with them to Reunion when they were selling their wares or needed something, and it was there her life changed once again. It was where she met the two that would become her family. Even if at first she was unwilling to leave what she considered home, a long talk with the tribe elder eventually changed her mind. She knew he was different than everyone else there, her scales were the wrong color, and they had told her how they had found her all alone without going into too many details.
The two people who stepped into her life, are the ones she today calls her parents. Both are chefs, her mother specializing in bakery and desserts, while her dad worked side by side with his wife with the main courses, with a specialty within all things meat. He could make almost anything really, but he was best when it came to meat. They had been told by the Mol how she had been found and what little they knew, but they had also suggested that they leave her past as just that. So they did, the only thing they tried to help her with was to get her hearing back, but no doctor could find a way to help. Her horns had been severed or pulled off from her head, so even though they grew back, they no longer had a function. Eventually though, she got so good at reading lips, that they almost forgot she couldn't hear them.
Her interest and love from cooking grew with their teachings, and she excelled at it to the point where they had no more they could teach her. Her father would always say that she would never be the fastest, but anyone that appricated food would be happy to wait. Those words she tried her best to keep with her whenever she got angry or frustrated when learning something new. Luckily for her, she was offered a trip to Eorzea to learn more from the chefs there. After a year in training, she started seeing more of the world, and between training, helping her parents and visiting the Mol, she keeps herself quite busy.
If she finds the time, she can always be found somewhere calm, and close to nature.
