Appearance

Jean is short (in relation to his fellow Elezen) and the sort of skinny that seems forever unable to gain weight. Some might even call him 'scrawny.' His sandy brown hair is styled carelessly. He often sports sideburns to make himself appear more rugged - his short stature and poor muscle definition can make him appear younger than he truly is. He expends a lot of effort in looking 'effortless'.

Behavior

Jean is a flirt and a troublemaker, at least by Ishgardian standards. The 'Entertainer' role is his element - he craves the attention of others, and strives to create his own amusement by toying around with life. Nothing is too serious to be joked about, and nobody is too important not to be teased. Reprimands and offended glares are practically worn as a badge of honour.

Beneath his playful persona, Jeantremont is heavily steeped in traditional Ishgardian ideals. He's faithful to the point of zealotry; despite his irreverent jokes, he has a deep veneration for Halone and the Archbishop. He has eagerly pledged his life in service of the Holy See. He hopes someday to die in battle against the Dravanian hordes - after, of course, leaving behind a legacy his future children can be proud of. Like many of his countrymen, he exhibits quite a bit of xenophobia and intolerance for "nonbelievers." Fierce pride, unwavering faith, and unconditional loyalty are the three values most important to Jean.

Combat

General

Jeantremont is an Ishgardian Knight of average skill. He's capable of holding his own against a smaller Dravanian, such as a Thrustaevis, but he's certainly not about to go slay the next Midgardsormr. He fulfills what's expected of a knight, and that's enough, though his potential for promotion is rather low.

If his foe is a dragon, Jean rushes headlong into battle, as if death or injury were not concerns that had even crossed his mind. Death to a dragon would be an honour. However, if he finds himself fighting Ixali or other foes, he plays much more conservatively. Others might describe it as 'cowardice," but to Jean, it's 'risk management.'

Relationships

Family

Laverloix is a name without prestige. Although they can trace their line back eleven generations in Ishgard, their poor financial standing and relatively few achievements have placed them a step below mediocrity. Jean and his sister, Rivienne, are the only two remaining members of the rather small clan. Jean plans to carry on the family name - after he catches his own little piece of glory, anyways. He'd like to have something his future children can be proud of him for.

Rivienne Laverloix: Jean's sister, older by five years. She's an accomplished knight of the Holy See - or at least, she was. After falling (back) into a deep depression, she abandoned life in Ishgard and set out for somewhere far, far away. In her perspective, her knighthood was nothing but a slow and predictable trudge towards death by dragon. Knowing Jean felt differently on the matter, she disappeared in the night without even telling him where she'd gone.

Larsonient Laverloix: The deceased father of Jeantremont and Rivienne. He passed away in 1564; he was killed by the dragon Ridharav while defending the Gates of Judgment. That he had died in the service of the Holy See was honourable, but it brought little comfort to his now-orphaned children.

Trinne Laverloix: Trinne passed away shortly after giving birth to Jean. Although Rivienne has hazy memories of her, Jean has none at all.

Friends

Jean's sister has been his dearest friend for just about the past two decades. That said, he's always been quick to make friends; he has a healthy circle of fellow soldiers he counts as his buddies. Nowadays, he's mostly friendless. Leaving Ishgard to find Rivienne also meant leaving all of his friends back home.

Enemies

Jean's got a problem with authority. He has a bit of a persecution complex about them: "The only reason I didn't get promoted is because he's trying to spite me!" While his commanders and past instructors can't truly be called enemies, Jean has butted heads with them more than a few times. Mostly of his own fault, not theirs.

History/Timeline

Jeantremont was born to an unremarkable family residing in the Holy See of Ishgard. The Laverloix family has always been small, just barely floating above poverty. Few of its members have achieved anything noteworthy, most of them being fishermen.

Just six short moons after Jeantremont's birth, his mother passed away after a long struggle with illness. This left her husband, Larsoneint, to raise his five-year-old daughter and newborn son alone.

1550 (0): Jeantremont is born. His mother passes away shortly afterwards.

1564 (14): Jean's father, Larsonient, is slain by a dragon.

1573 (23): Jean is knighted.

1577 (27): Rivienne flees Ishgard. Jean vows to track her down and bring her back home.
