Personality

History

Childhood & Adolescence

K'raqi was born deep in the Sagolii Desert to the Hipparion Tribe, one of the twenty-six Seeker of the Sun tribes that settled in Eorzea long ago. His particular off-shoot of the tribe was known for their utilization of the hipparion (a horse-like creature with stripes and horns), herding them and using them to hunt larger game in the desert. Hipparion have since gone extinct, but their traditions are remembered and revered.

As a child and all through adolescence, K'raqi was taught and trained extensively with a spear by his mother, K'ali. She was a crafty and ambitious miqo'te who strived for only the best - especially from her children, and made it her personal mission to prime her son to some day not only become a nunh to their tribe, but a prestigious and powerful one at that.

K'raqi's mother, K'ali Fidar

Besides spear hunting and survival, she also ensured he was book and street smart, teaching him, to the best of her ability, all about the races, cultures and languages he might encounter in Eorzea - uncommon knowledge for miqo'te who usually took no interest in the world outside their own. Trips into Ul'dah and other cities were frequent learning experiences for him.

However, at age sixteen, his schooling abruptly ended when his mother was mortally wounded during a hunting lesson. Her health suffered an agonizingly slow decline over the next year, until an infection in an unhealing wound took her life. The years that followed were dark; K'raqi fell into a deep depression and gave up any attempts to ascend from tia to nunh, and even considered suicide. He became reckless and irresponsible, living only to over-indulge in drink and other activities that marked him as a delinquent amongst fellow tribe members.

One of K'raqi's children, his eldest daughter K'ali Raqi

A new chapter of his life began when he turned twenty, and it was discovered one of the women of his tribe, K'maki Bashir, was pregnant by him - not a nunh. Unable to cover up his folly, he was faced with the wrath of the current nunh and risked being exiled from the clan, along with his unborn daughter and K'maki.

K'raqi decided, finally, it was time to continue his mother's work - spurred on by his unborn child, whom he now had a burning desire to impress and inspire. He challenged the current nunh, and won. Leaving the older male wounded, but still alive, K'raqi assumed his new position. But his work was not done; he had to convince the matriarch and other women that he was worthy of his new position.

Buckling down and resuming his role as a lancer and huntsman, he gained favor by assisting with greater, more magnificent kills to feed their tribe - though he still struggled with a drinking problem. He took an active role in his newborn daughter's life, and gave her the namesake K'ali - and teaching her everything he he could of his own mother's lessons.

The Calamity

Shortly after the death of K'raqi's mother, his great aunt K'shori was awarded the title of Elder and joined the elder council. The tribe saw a lengthy period of unrest during her leadership in this position, as members of the tribe disagreed strongly between each other on whether or not K'shori was fit to make decisions for the tribe.

For many, her ascent to the position symbolized a turning point for the worst for their tribe. It held on for many years, in the form of droughts and deaths and various other misfortunes, all the way up until Dalamud decimated the planet.

Several years after she had risen to power, their misfortune solidified into something much more tangible than before: their portion of the Sagolii Desert was overcome by a harsh drought. However, K'shori refused to allow them to relocate from their settlement or try to make their way to Ul'dah.

At the same time, a foreboding, fiery red sphere had taken shape in the skies - Dalamud, once a small, humble moon turned something much more sinister - and the tribe took it as a sign of their poor fortune about to come to a head.

A small subsection among the tribe, including K'ali's mother K'maki, became enchanted with the idea of stealing away to the city-state in hopes of finding more opportunity for themselves and their children, and perhaps finding some metropolitan careers for themselves. They conspired in secret with plans to relocate to Ul'dah, and K'raqi would follow suit to remain near to his eldest daughter.

The idea spread among the tribe, and soon there were only a select few who refused to abandon K'shori and her deathwish. Frustrated and tired after a lengthy argument when their plan was exposed, they finally began exodus to Ul'dah even as Dalamud seemed to draw ever nearer. There was no shelter in the desert that might protect them from it that they knew of - so perhaps something more fortified would.

Just as they reached the gates of Ul'dah, it all came crashing down - whatever it was. The sky was red as blood and huge chunks of rock plummeted toward the ground, cruelly smashing into the planet and ruining everything in it's wake - structures, trees, rocks, living creatures; nothing was spared. The doors to the city were barred for safety at that point, and all they could do was huddle close to each other against the city wall and hope. They swore it was the end.

When it was over, none of them seemed to be able to describe what had happened; most of them had hardly any memory of it at all. But the truth was there in the ravaged earth. The planet had not hit Ul'dah, but the debris and stray meteors that followed it had. For some time, they thought they were the only ones who had survived - until the gates of Ul'dah opened once again, and they forced their way inside a city fraught with chaos and panic.

Those of the Hipparion tribe that stayed behind - K'shori, all her supporters - were never seen again. Not even a body, or a trace of what once was. K'raqi Nunh had lost siblings, mates, children - gone forever. They mourned, wondering if their decision to separate had angered their totem Hipparion, or Azeyma, or any gods or goddesses they could think of, in some way. But there was nothing left to do but continue on.
