Since Kanekage was a child, he was taught in the ways of the honorable Samurai for the Suigetsu clan by his father and uncle.

Such knowledge would lead him to learn more than just swordplay and the protection of his Daimyo, but that of the arts. As he

grew older and became an adult, his knowledge and temperament lead him to be one of the favored 'knights' of his lord. Ultimately

charged with the protection of the Daimyo's daughter, Kanekage took his work seriously. Unfortunately once the Garleans occupied

and destroyed Doma, the entire clan of the Suigetsu and murdered his Damiyo, Kanekage nearly was killed during the raze of the

Empire, himself. Left blinded, broken and alone; Hattori ventured forth unto Eorzea.
