Character

General

Konan at first sight cuts a rather unimpressive figure. She is short and skinny often getting lost in a crowd and perhaps she would say she prefers it that way. Coming from a life of living with a nomadic tribe of Miqo'te she often has a mistrust of anyone she does not know well and is shy and quiet. When she has to speak such as buying items from a merchant she is often straight to the point and rarely engages in pleasantries. While she is often shy around others she also has a healthy curiosity and will often people watch around large crowds.

Konan comes to Gridania from her birth place in the desert of Thanalan on a special Pilgrimage from her tribes Matriarch Zheh Jakkya who sent her to meet contacts and undertake training in healing magic and has since found herself caught up in other events.

Appearance

Konan has a tiny figure standing at just 4'10 with red hair with blue highlights and she also has a highlight on her tail. Her left eye is green and her right eye is red. She has pale skin due to her dislike of the sun and from living a life of mostly being active during the night with her tribe. She always wears war paint in a particular pattern from her tribe. The red stripe across her face highlighting her eyes. She believes this grants her divine protection and power while hunting.

Behavior

Mostly quiet and shy. She often panics when approached and has a habit of saying something strange. She has only recently made much contact with people outside her tribe since traveling to Gridania and does not know much of how she should act around others. This can lead to some misunderstandings. She does have a curiosity for new things though and will often like to watch others and listen to their stories. She is known to be more talkative to other Miqo'te.

She likes to collect shiny objects and other objects of interest that she makes into trinkets and has a habit of staring at shiny buttons and other items on another person to a point of considering stealing it. She is often seen making trinkets or carving things out of wood she recovers from around The Shroud. Most often she makes a small pan flute like object and some hunting tools.

Due to her lack of experience in dealing with others and about the world in general Konan can be quite naive and will take things at face value. This can be a problem because she can be easily tricked and lied to and has found herself in trouble because of this.

As a Nomad constantly moving around different hunting grounds in Thanalan she has little understanding of the concept of "Home". When others talk of growing up in a house she has a habit of not really understanding why people place so much value on a living structure and it's location.

Despite her shyness when faced with a male Miqo'te she can be quite bossy and forceful with them. She watched the matriarch of her tribe when breeding males presented themselves and the way she acted and will emulate her pushyness when faced with a male Miqo'te. She is impressed mainly by physical prowess and will respond more to a Miqo'te male who is a good hunter and can kill a huge beast than some of the more quiet types. Having the idea of making her tribe strong drummed into her she has a habit of judging all males of her race by these standards. Due to her tribes isolated nature they only saw males coming to them for the chance to breed and as such when approached by a male Miqo'te she just assumes that is what they want. This can also lead to misunderstandings.

Combat

Konan prefers to use magic during combat and has been training especially in healing magic. Despite being a good hunter she has no real talent for using physical force in an actual fight. She is clumsy with hand to hand weapons.

  • "I've never once seen that girl speak. She just comes in and points at what she wants then sits in the corner staring at people. Bit of a weird one if you ask me she's unsocial even for a Miqo'te girl. Wonder where she came from?" - Barman Gridania

History/Timeline

Una Jakkya lays on the bed the final few deep breaths passing her lips as the two girls begin cleaning her newborn child. Matriarch Zheh watches over waiting for the sound of the child's cries. Nothing comes. "Another lost one it seems" Zheh thinks to herself. She felt her tribe had been cursed by some divine force. For generations they suffered a hereditary disease which would kill babies in the womb. This caused the tribe numbers to dwindle over time due to successive poor birthing seasons. Her head drops about to declare another loss her train of thought is broken by a sudden stirring from the child. The two tribes girls look at each other their faces lighting up. Zheh looks over as the child suddenly lets out a loud cry. "This one will not be taken from us this day" she says happily walking over to ritually greet the child and welcome her into the tribe. It was always the job of the Matriarch to name the child and declare them a new tribe member. The two girls appeared to be whispering something as Zheh reached out to hold the child.

Taking the baby into her arms she holds her up and looks at her. The shock on Zheh's face is plain for all to see. Una watches her child and the wide eyed look of the Matriarch wondering what could have startled her. Zheh looks at the face of the baby girl no longer crying wide eyed and making small noises. "Those eyes" she thinks to herself. Before her the babies eyes stare back at her. One red and one green. The same eyes that held a very special meaning for the tribe.

It was told in tales of the Jakkya tribe that the "old ones" the ancestors of their tribe crossed the sea of ice in search of a new great hunting ground full of food that could sustain generations. They made the great journey and settled in the Thanalan region. The woman who bought the tribes together under her name was Konan Jakkya who was said to have eyes of red and green. None of the tribe in generations had been born with those eyes. "This is truely a blessing from Menphina herself" she says becoming choked up on her tears. She holds the child up. Time to name the child and there is only one name she could find suitable. "I welcome you Konan Jakkya as a member of our tribe. May you bring our tribe good fortune and maintain our great line" Una watches her child as Zheh brings her over handing her to her mother. "This child will become very special i can feel it" Zheh says smiling.

Konan grew and in time the Matriarch took her on as a student teaching her the history of the tribe and about harnessing magic. She felt that one day Konan would be an important part of the tribes future after many years of watching them suffer she felt the child's birth was an end to suffering. She spent much of her days at the Matriarch's side and this made her sisters jealous of her although her little brother always respected her.

When her brother was young he showed signs of illness and has become more weak over time. After 18 years in the tribe Konan reached the age of maturity and was called to see the Matriarch who told her it was time for her to leave the tribe on a pilgrimage. She would journey to Gridania and seek training in healing magic. She was told how her ancestor was a powerful White Mage and if she could attain the same skill she might one day cure the curse of her tribe. Konan wanting to save her brother agreed to do this and set out on a journey with just a bag of clothes and enough money to buy transport some of the way.

Since she arrived in Gridania Konan began studying healing magic and found herself doing odd jobs to make money. She began to learn more of greater events happening in the region and finds herself involved in some of them. Not knowing what the future has in store for her she only has eyes for her goal of becoming a White Mage for now.
