Basic Info

Like many an Au Ra, Kumiko found her way of Eorzea by way of fleeing conflict. Naturally, this is less than ideal; since infancy all the tiny girl had known was a small, close-knit Malaguld clan which has been effectively scattered. Despite this, and the fact that she's a Xaela in one way and Raen in another, her go-to strategy seems to be give a pretty smile, have another cup of tea, and do her best. For Kumiko, her best currently is finding contract work where she can get it at any one of the three city-states, using her best manners to try and win over any doubters. Despite the difficulties in front of her, she has found a few bright sides; namely, she has discovered fashion that was previously unavailable to her out on the steppes of Othard. That at least, she can give Eorzea a lot of praise for.

Appearance and Personality

Appearance

Like a lot of female Au Ra, Kumiko is more on the short end of things than the tall. Standing only at about 4'9", this generally puts her at a disadvantage if you want her to fetch something from the top shelf. She's also scrawny enough that most would probably think she subsists on air. This is perhaps for the best since she's fond of any and all shoulder carries from taller, stronger friends that she's offered. Like any Raen, her scales are of the paler variety, in a creamy off-white color; in stark contrast, her hair and skin are both much darker.

Her eyes are a silvery grey with light grey limbal rings, which can look a tad off-putting in low light or after dark. Despite the desert heat, she's fond of keeping her hair long, just vain enough to tolerate the discomfort for the sake of appearances. While she certainly knows how to dress reasonably on an adventuring contract, if Kumiko had her way (and had the cash) there'd be a lot more cute dresses and clothes accented with lace or dyed pretty colors in her life.

Family

Mother

Kumiko never knew much of her mother's life before the steppes. Back when instead of Mio Malaguld, she was Mio Yamauchi.

Father

On one hand, Kumiko could count every detail she has ever known about her father. The first was, naturally, that he was a Raen. The second was he was of significantly lower social standing than her mother. Thirdly, it was his own wits that saw to their safe arrival with a Malaguld clan, and the last was apparently her own name. Unfortunately, that was where his luck ran out -- she was scarce more than a toddler when he perished on the steppes. While she's never missed him the way a child might miss a parent they knew and loved, she does recognize what he meant to her mother and is grateful to what she was given by him.

Biography

Childhood and Youth
Garlean Invasion and the Calamity
End of Seventh Umbral Era to Present

For Kumiko, her arrival in Eorzea primarily meant only one thing -- at some point, she would be leaving it. Of course, between Garlean occupation and Ul'dahn capitalism, that's proven more difficult than she thought it to be. For the most part, it's been about balancing homesickness for a way of life pulled out from under her with excitement over all the new experiences the city states have offered her. She misses her clan, but she'll also miss La Noscean cooking one day. Having company has helped; were it not for Gan, Duushuvuu and Renne, she'd be a lot lonelier. There's also the fact that were it not for coming, none of them were likely to have met beyond passing each other by in Othard. It's a hard-learned lesson, given how often she's been assumed a Doman in passing conversation.

As it currently stands, she's personally vowed to stay until the others are ready to go home in the hopes they can leave together. However, she is decidedly eager for any gossip of home; how are things, does the Alliance care a whit to even try to free it from the Garleans. There's also word on the street about an Ala Mhigan Resistance -- a place she knows little about, but if there's hope for that country, there might be some for Othard. Until then, she's trying to enjoy her time rather than wallow.

Miscellaneous

  • Cannot for the life of her pronounce the term 'chocobo'.
  • Has decorated friends with both practical and pretty trinkets including feathers, bells, and colored beads.
  • The word snurbleberry is also one she has contention with, but thankfully does not come up often.
  • Doesn't claim any particular city-state as a second home, but is seen most around Ul'dah.
  • Burritos into blankets big time.
  • Very fond of parties or other types of gatherings that call for dressing up.
  • Loves snow, loves snowfall with big fat flakes and piles of it on tree branches. There wasn't much Mother would mention about her life growing up in the mountains, but winter never failed to make the Raen lady a little nostalgic for her own childhood. Given current circumstances, Kumiko gets more than a little wistful if the mountains of Coerthas are in sight.
  • It's probably for the best she doesn't know Gan named the pet opo-opo they found 'snack.'
  • Conversely, she named a chocobo 'feathered horse.'
  • Really sort of fell into adventuring just by being in need of money. Given that she's as of yet run into anyone else from her own tribe, she's at a loss on what to do with herself other than work and try very hard to not seem lonely. She enjoys the work, but mostly because some of the company she's found is good.
  • Figuring out Gan's name was probably comedy gold to anyone watching. There was a lot of pointing at items, guessing words, and mutual tearing of hair in frustration. Which is probably why he just goes by Gan instead of Ganbataar.
  • Fond of most bugs, particularly beetles and butterflies.
  • Has turned to things like colorful feathers, bells, dried flowers and small ribbons as fashion pieces in lieu of being unable to afford a whole new wardrobe of things because nobody told her Eorzean fashion was so marvelous.
Rumours

Not all rumours are necessarily true.

RELATIONS
Romantic Interest    Family/Close Relationship    Friends    Acquaintance    Dislike
Ganbataar "Gan" Qestir: Something of Gan's translator/interpreter, Kumiko gets along swimmingly with Gan. A lot of their first interactions included a lot of pointing and guessing words or intent. Now that she can 'read' him a lot better it's not uncommon for her to guess what he's going to ask. Usually it's if he can fight a thing. Or eat a thing. Or if they can go fight a thing to earn money to eat a thing. He also gives excellent piggyback rides.
Duushuvuu Qalli: Even though he's almost twice as tall as her, Kumiko dotes on him more. It is probably because he's scared of so much in life; fighting, overly loud noises, being surprised. Gan very graciously agreed to wear bells to avoid startling Duushu at her request. Later she had to buy bells and feathers for the Qalli because he is not so secretly a pretty bird who wishes to preen.

Open to walk-ups if you send a /tell please. I'm also totally open for RPing a pre-existing relationship between two characters barring any kind of romantic pairing -- let's be comrades! Or something.
