Character

History

It was the beginning of the rest of her life when the Calamity hit, changing the very essence deep within her that made her someone worthy of note but completely unimportant. Kunari Whisperwind had been blessed with a loving and supportive family, a betrothal that had been ascertained since birth and was pleasantly agreeable to both herself and her future husband, and a bright, glowing future that looked as promising as it did admirable as a successful civilian teacher. Life was looking good, and as a civilian living in a small village not much plagued her mind other than the health and well being of those she loved.

The Calamity hit them all unaware and robbed her of literally everything.

The giant, burning ball of flame in the sky was noted by all, but none had prepared themselves for the utter destruction it would rain upon them as they had all believed that a savior would arise and save them. While help had appeared, it was far too late once Dalamud broke apart and revealed Bahamut. Kunari's once safe, small yet prosperous village had been one of the few to be directly hit within a matter of seconds. There had been no warning. Before their very eyes, the dark night sky lit up in explosions of red and gold, blinding them.

As terror and destruction rained down from the heavens, Kunari witnessed several key moments that would forever change her. Before her eyes her family fell, unable to protect themselves from the rain of fire and rock that tore Eorzea apart. Her fiance perished and burned in order to protect her, shielding her from the worst of a blast that took them completely unaware as they tried to flee for their lives. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her, her voice hoarse from the screaming, crying and yelling of the names of those who were once shining beacons of hope in her life. A few village people found shelter within a cave that fortunately had been carved rather deep into the earth, and although she had been dragged down by other survivors into its depths kicking and screaming for her family, she remained with them for days on end, waiting for the fires to die.

The agonized glance her fiance managed to give her before his eyes faded to blank, glossy orbs as he gave up his life for hers broke her heart completely and utterly. The explosions that tore her family apart right before her eyes would forever haunt her whenever she closed her eyes. The cries, the screaming and the scent of burnt flesh and woodland would forever plague her senses. The fact that she still existed with nary a hair out of place despite the soot and dirt that coated her would forever be on her mind.

She stepped forward out of that cave one day when the sun finally chose to peek out from behind the heavy clouds. She tilted her dirty face up towards the sunshine, her face a blank canvas and her eyes deadened to the world. Despite the hurt, the guilt and the shattered pieces that remained of her heart deep within her chest, Kunari found the strength to step forward into the light.

It took days, weeks, months. Finally, a full year had passed without further incident and the village had been cleaned up considerably despite the amount of damage it had sustained. The bodies of her loved ones were buried alongside their friends and neighbors, with fresh flowers planted on each to allow a heady, pleasant scent to cover up the stale smell of burning wood. A year of hard labor strengthened her both physically and mentally, preparing her for the choices she was about to make which would change the course of her story forever.

When the houses were built, the gardens were in place and the crops had been planted and were beginning to ripen, Kunari felt a rush of energy that was completely foreign and downright frightening. It was a rush of power, a sensation of completeness that she had never experienced before, quickly overtaking her soul and giving her newfound hope. While she had never shown any ability earlier in life, she quite suddenly found herself the bearer of powers beyond anything she had ever seen. She could conjure elements out of thin air to protect. She could summon a delightful, cheeky little creature that quickly became her closest companion. And the best of all - she could heal almost any ailment and injury with barely any effort.

Just like that, Kunari found her new purpose in life and was quick to set out into the world to further her new found skills. The village held nothing for her except broken promises and pain. With a final, quick farewell to the gravestones that were set above her family and fiance, she set off into the wilderness, keen to get to the nearest city and find her calling.

Today, Kunari wanders the world under the tutelage of the Arcanist's Guild, absorbing as much knowledge as she can and using her skills to aid the world that is still healing after the effects of the Calamity. She aspires to specialise in the art of healing and hopes to bestow the title of Scholar to her name, which her peers believe will happen sooner than she thinks.

With the great Calamity came a newfound sense of purpose and responsibility. Kunari Whisperwind was once a victim, but out of the ashes of fire that Bahamut left behind rose a confident and able young woman. Where most would succumb to their grief, Kunari taught herself to use her pain as a source of strength. Eyes that were once dead to the world became bright with hope once more, and without a ounce of regret she moves forward, looking toward the light on the horizon that will lead the world to salvation.

Appearance

Kunari inherited most of her mother's fair features and retained a lot of the typical traits of a Midlander female. Her long, crimson hair is usually kept in a tail to keep the majority of it away from her face. She possesses quite unique seafoam green eyes that appear yellow in certain light, and her fair complexion evens out her skin tone and marks her heritage easily.

The hard labor undertaken to restore her home village has carved a strong and fit fighter out of what was once a slim, yet typical civilian relaxed physique. Opting to wear light, flowing robes instead of heavy armor in order to move around more freely, Kunari has adopted the standard garb that is chosen by most casters, preferring lighter colors over dark. She is rarely seen without her arcanist's tome, a prized and cherished gift from her peers at the Arcanist's Guild.

Behavior

Despite her past and the terrors she witnessed, Kunari's personally has largely remained unaffected. A stout and strong character at heart, Kunari takes everything at face value and will usually deign to watch rather than participate. Known by most as the quiet one of a group, she will however rise to meet challenges that are thrown her way without hesitation and is very driven when her focus has been stolen.

Generally Kunari is a pleasant albeit quiet young woman, opting to listen to everything around her and observe. Those that are willing to overcome her exterior and befriend her will find a fiercely loyal and protective friend, one who is willing to drop everything at the slightest hint of trouble in order to assist. While most would say her past has contributed to her almost obsessive need to ensure the safety and happiness of others, this particular behaviour is very reminiscent to her attitude even prior to the Calamity.

While not prone to random bouts of laughter, smiles or even affection, she generally will not shy away from comedic advances and at times, if caught in a particularly good mood, will participate. She will however prefer to remain in solitude, usually amongst the extensive library located in Limsa Lominsa, which is where most will usually find her during her downtime. Her one and only true friend that she will unashamedly confide in is her Carbuncle.

Kunari takes great pleasure in aiding those who require her services. Outside of her study periods when given a project, she is most often than not out on the road, taking on board any jobs the general populace offer her. She is open and receptive once her seemingly expressionless facade is put aside, and always willing to offer a lending hand or word when asked. She is usually described as helpful, appreciative and humble to those who first meet her, but once beneath the surface of her blank expression one will find a true heart of solid gold.

Combat

General

Having discovered her unique abilities much later than most, Kunari's combat style can be considered rather unrefined and carefree compared to the usual flowing and gentle motions of other casters. Taking great pride in her growing strength, she puts her all into each cast and will not hesitate to thrust her body about in order to ensure optimum range and power with spells. She is quick on her feet and ensures she isn't standing in the same spot for more than required to protect herself.

Her sole goal in regards to her progression at this stage is the role of Scholar, as she wishes to dedicate herself to the art of healing alongside her summoned companions. She does however show a natural talent with all magic, and will at times experiment with the Thaumaturge Guild to test her ability.

Kunari has a natural affinity for Water and finds it easier to manipulate than all of the other elements.

Tendencies

Likes

  • Books - Books hold an unending fount of knowledge and one is never far from her possession. Words by the written hand fascinate her and she spends the majority of her time studying.
  • Chocolate - Like most women Kunari has a fondness for chocolate.
  • Magic - She is extremely proud of her ability and takes great pleasure in using it to help those that need it.

Dislikes

  • Dancing - Kunari will not dance unless she absolutely has to. Only the Sylphs have witnessed her sidestep and she intends on keeping it that way.
  • Arrogance - Above all else she despises those who maintain a closed minded perspective. Those who are arrogant and refuse to see the error of their ways, especially when presented with researched facts and figures will find themselves ignored without hesitation.

Relationships

Family

Kunari was born into a moderately wealthy merchant family. Her parents made a union of love and conceived her rather early in their marriage, however this didn't disadvantage them in the slightest. A second daughter was born approximately seven years after Kunari's birth, however her sister died quite young in the Calamity. Each member is remembered fondly, and while the pain their death caused is still present, Kunari ensures that a smile graces her features whenever she thinks of them. Kunari has extended family in various parts of Eorzea but due to her upbringing in a relatively small merchant village, she has had next to no contact with them.

Her bethrothed also perished during the Calamity. Born a couple of years before her, both had been promised to each other from birth, which had been a standard action taken between family friends when two children were born of each gender that were also close of age. Kunari prefers to have him remain nameless, as his absence still pains her more than she is like to admit.

Friends

Kunari's closest friend is her shimmering blue Carbuncle, having met it first before any other she has been granted summoning access to. All her other companions are considered close as well.

She has yet to make any meaningful friendships with those either outside or within her Free Company. While not entirely her choice, this has mainly to do with the fact that she spends the majority of her time on the road, gaining experience to achieve her chosen field.

Enemies

Kunari has no long lasting, sworn enemies except for the Garlean empire for summoning Dalamud and destroying the entirety of her life. All entities that otherwise threaten or harm innocents are dealt with in a timely manner.

Free Company

Kunari has chosen to undertake study with the Ul'Dah Garden, a military Free Company dedicated to preserving peace. She is registered as a student and is working hard to exceed her exam in order to become a fully fledged member.

OOC

When in game Kunari is always in character. Roleplay is always welcomed, however please note that at times when busy she may not respond favorably. Tells are responded to OOC.
