INTRO TEXT

History

Laen was born in a small village near southern thanalan her father being a crafter of sorts, her mother growing up in a small farming village outside of limsa did her best to grow crops in the baren wasteland. laen would assist around the house helping her father with his crafting, her mother with the harvest, and speaking often with the caravan drivers that would come to pick up her fathers wares; curious of their travels.

she wasn't the strongest kid growing up but she was determined... the greatest stories she would hear would come from the caravans heading twords limsa... she loved hearing of tales of life out on the sea and the new adventures awaiting the storytellers on distant islands and continents. she heard the best way to be a part of one of those adventures was to join the marauders guild.

her mind was set she had such passion and drive to join the marauders and have her own grand adventure that she went down to her fathers workshop one morning and attempted to pick up an axe to take it outside and practice... however this axe had been specially made for a large rogadyn so as she attempted to lift it up off the table it fell down on her and lucky for her sake falling in such a manner she was only trapped under the hilt. eventually her father found her and she had to explain to him what she was doing... her father so impressed by her ambition he made her a special axe... one light weight but sturdy, first giving her a dull heavy rock at the end as she practice.. but as she became more talented and he felt satisfied she wouldnt kill herself on accadent he made her a special head to top it... made from melting down an old powerful mages staff, forming the metal into a lightweight razor sharp tool keeping the old weapon hole by placeing the attunement sphere directly into the blade as a focal point for its unique design... laen.. being so excited continued to train ever harder, still going about and doing her chores and listening to storys... a few months into being 16 she decided she couldnt take it anymore.. and left home; knowing her mother and father would just stop her she told them nothing, packed her bags and left.. leaving as fast as she could to limsa. stowing herself onto an airship late at night making the trip much shorter for herself, she made her way to the marauders guild as soon as she arived they accepted her though to her surprise took away her axe, calling it a childs toy, handing her a much heavier axe made of steel and stone to prove her skill, not used to the weight she fell many times doing even the simplest skills, pleading with the guild master to use her own axe he scoffed tossing her the axe and kicking her out onto the streets, ashamed, she couldn't bare to face her parents,, she had run away and had nothing to show for it.

(To most people not close to her this is where her story stops, as well as some future plot points.. this will only be common known knowledge.. it later picks up again many years after.) (Begining of In game story.) after the battle of Cartenau much like a good deal of other people laen spent her time looking for a new home... homeless for weeks untill she picked up a job as maid for one of the larger free company houses.. they fed her and gave her a room to rest in with the other maids... they even gave her clothes..though the outfits she was given were small skimpy things she was forced to wear.. even in public when she was ordered to run errands.. she did them so quickly just to get off the street with everyone watching she was known for her fast deliverys. abused, groped, oggled and harassed one day she stood up for herself. she told her employer she no longer wanted to wear such revealing outfits the man simply laughed taking away all of her clothes. telling her she was too vein for her own good, and from then on forced her wear to wear a long black cowl with her head covered and a dark mask to hide her face she suffered this for only 24 hours, due to the help of her friends she was able to stand up and realize she was better than that... she quit her job and began working as a courier... using all of her contacts made in her service as a maid... they offered to pay her more to wear the same revealing outfit but she refused. since then she has been working her way up... pulling caravan jobs and becoming a successful business woman. in her endeavors she now rents farmland in the east shroud and has a few employees of her own.

Personality

Laen has many faces depending on the situation. someone who meets her in the quicksand will see a completely different person during a business meeting and definitely while she is guiding a caravan.

(:Relaxed Laen: (Usually found in the quicksand or at home or relaxing out in east shroud. can quickly turn to business mode should something arise that piques her interests.) a stranger may be met with a smile and a kind word. often an offering of cookies she keeps in one of her pouches to start a conversation. ( paying close attention to the cookies she offers can tell you how she feels about you.) they are a simple pleasure and comfort of hers. the offering is one more of shared emotions. desiring a stranger to become closer, to feel comfortable around her and for all of their troubles to be kept at bay for the brief time they may be with her. there is a special glimmering bag she keeps for special occasions or during hard times, her favorite and her treasure. if she offers one of these to you do not take it for granted. for you are a special person in her eyes and worth every bit of happiness she has to give.

she speaks her mind,if you say something horrible or something she disagrees with she usually will not hold her tongue in a relaxed setting. she is honest and hard working and often looks out for up and coming business owners or private contractors. due to her relationship with the guilds she prefers to see small businesses grow and thrive in an effort to level the playing field, and she hopes remove peoples reliance on such methods of obtaining wares; though she is not above taking their money to further her own ventures.

a friend or someone who is looking particularly down may receive a hug or a gentle caring hand on the shoulder. through her time as a maid and before that being homeless she understands most of the troubles people can experience and much like her offering of a cookie and a smile , wishes to relieve the burdens of anyone she can help.

those who have treated her as a courtesan are often met with an open blade or cutting tool from her pouch. fighting to keep her honor as a maid she holds on to those beliefs and any such actions are taken as an extreme insult and she does not hesitate to become hostile.

(:Business Laen: Professional, still kind and caring as always but holds her tongue denying politely the advances of others which are... beyond those of polite conversation.. this shouldn't be taken as something she doesn't enjoy, (unless it falls into the realm of sexual favors) she merely wishes to maintain a certain amount professionalism approaching her again when she is more relaxed will reveal a better sight into her opinion on you. though being a being a business contact she will continue to remain polite at all times unless you do something extremely heinous in front of her.

she listens to rumors often. as a caravan driver it assists her in taking the safest roads possible to give her the best bet at arriving safely with her cargo should she hear a negative rumor about a business partner depending on its severity she will be up front in confronting the person about it, and may choose to not deal with that person or affiliation again to maintain her own name if the truth is something she personally wants nothing to do with.

(:Caravan Laen: this is NOT a time to approach her. you can if you want but you will be met with a sense of hostility. she has before, stopped her caravan to remove someone following her who she does not know personally and did not hire to protect the caravan, having them frisked before letting them leave. coming this far from being a maid she does her very best to prove she is worth something more than just her looks. keeping her package safe is top priority ( a person who gets close enough to her on a personal level may find out more as to why she is so serious and hostile to strangers during her routes.) completely serious and driven by her desire to become even more successful this is not a time to play around. she offers food and wine free to her guards at the end of a successful trip where you will see business or maybe even relaxed Laen once more. grateful to her help she has no problem being approached at this time. there has been a time when she knowingly hired a thief to help out a friend, still being someone she didn't know she also treated this person as very hostile keeping her eyes on them at all times other than battle. she has yet to fail a trip or deliver something late so she takes her routes very seriously.
