History

Born to a poor, yet proud military family in Ishgard, every son and daughter of the family dedicated their lives for them to defend the city,Lancel lost 2 sisters and a brother to the Dravanian horde, and was having doubts about if the family name was worth all the death and pain.. that is until he learned that in her death, his sister had saved the son of a noble, and her dying wish was for him to be a squire to a son of House Martelle. A fairly respected vassal to house Fortemps.

Learning of his sisters sacrifice, Lancel gave everything he had, practicing swordplay as well as etiquette and history, proving to be a resourceful if slightly inflexible young man. Very set in his own idealized notions of a knights honor and duty. For years he toiled, at the barricades, in the field, always a stalwart friend and ally to his liege, Gerard Martelle, a man who made up for his lack of martial skill with tactical cunning and an ability to rouse loyalty in just about anyone he met, Including Lancel, who near idolized the man. But.. as things go when in dragon and heretic infested lands, House Martelle found itself losing heirs, and Gerard was no exception, once third in line for succession, Gerard himself met his end in the fangs of a dragon who in turn died from the wounds inflicted in the battle, the circumstances around this fight being vague as Lancel was the only survivor. And soon fell into a depression, feeling he'd failed his friend, as well as his sister, and the house that had given him the greatest opportunity of his life. And he signed up as a normal guard, protecting the walls with a fervor that almost seemed like a death wish. Until one day he was summoned away, and he resigned from his post just moments after returning from whatever meet he went to. After this, Lancel vanished from Ishgard, some say in self-exile, others say the aging matriarch of the Martelles sent him down into Eorzea for a mission. The only thing that is truly know is that the man has spent the last 8 years away from home. and despite the gates being opened, he's yet to return home. Instead living life as a bounty hunter.
