Larsonient "Lars" Aubrenard (born on the Second Sun of the Sixth Umbral Moon, Year 1542 of the Sixth Astral Era) is a Duskwight Elezen native to the Mor Dhona region, a practitioner of magic, follower of Thaliak, and a veteran of the Battle of Carteneau. His family, Clan Aubrenard, resides in underground caverns that weave underneath and throughout the mountain ranges of Mor Dhona, but centralize themselves near Silvertear Lake as a primary water source. Like most other Aubrenards, Larsonient was trained from a young age to be an expert in elemental magic, as traditionally his clan has kept a close relationship with the elemental spirits of Mor Dhona and Silvertear. Although he is familiar with destructive magic as a means of self defense, at age twenty he began to focus his talents into a healing specialization. Since the Battle of Silvertear Skies, Larsonient has been active in lending his assistance to those in need, from singular private requests to tasks given out to adventurers by the Eorzean city-states.

Overview

Physical Appearance

There is no mistaking Larsonient for a Wildwood; he is every inch a Duskwight in both appearance and demeanor. Despite the negative reputation normally attributed to his ilk, Larsonient carries himself with a proud stride, not the slightest bit discouraged by the way his dark ashen skin color is often received. In fact, he appears to enjoy his usual reception. His hair is similarly dark, black as jet and kept long, but neat. Offsetting the gray monotony of his visage is a pair of garnet eyes, which are frequently the most telling facet of his inner workings. The most distinctive quality about his features however is most certainly the black Duskwight tattoo bordering his left eye, which his fellow Carteneau veterans won't recall him having before the calamity.

Overall, Larsonient is a healthy specimen, if perhaps a few years beyond his prime. Standing at 6Fm and 8Im at his tallest, his lighter frame and a build that is closer to slender than moderate remain as evidence of his long road to recovery following his injuries five years ago.

Personal Demeanor

By no means is Larsonient eager to win the approval of his peers. The surface world has treated him with wary distrust since he was small, a fact he has long grown used to, though only recently made peace with. Larsonient makes no excuses for his subterranean kin, aware that the reputation of the Duskwight is as sour as it is well deserved. Despite this, and his history as a thief, he has no patience for anyone, including other Duskwight, who resort to larceny to make a living. In the past decade and a half, he has become rigidly principled and patriotic to Gridania, despite not being a citizen of the city. Larsonient expects everyone he meets to live up to his standards; those who do not risk inviting a sideways, if not outright caustic remark from him. Occasionally even he fails to meet his own expectations, which becomes the source for much of his self-depreciating sense of humor.

Though Larsonient could be described as a goodhearted individual, that does not necessarily mean he is always a pleasant one. He never expects to be well received by other races, and becomes skeptical and distrustful when he is—for what fool looks upon a Duskwight and doesn't instinctively guard his pockets? Not having forgotten his life as a thief and ruffian, he's apparently lost none of his contempt or bitterness for the cruelty the world showed him in his youth. On the other hand, it brings him some perverse pleasure when fellow adventurers realize they must rely on the likes of him if they want to see their wounds closed in the midst of battle. Though he can be quite scathing and almost blindingly cynical, those who know Larsonient well understand that he still remains one of the most benevolent and generous Elezen in Eorzea. He makes no secret about his prejudice for other races, but regardless of race or faction, he still will not hesitate to help someone in need, whatever that need may be.

When the situation calls for it, Larsonient can dispatch with his acerbic demeanor and behave more respectfully for certain company, even gentlemanly if the mood strikes him.

History

Early Life and Family

Larsonient was born in his family's home in the caverns of Mor Dhona to Valineaux and Ivaldne Aubrenard, remaining as their only child. His family was an uncommonly small one, as traditionally the families of the Aubrenard clan typically produce around four to eight children. This is attributed to an injury suffered by Ivaldne in her early youth which made it difficult for her to bear children. Larsonient remains very aware of the unlikelihood of his existence and for this reason he has sworn to make something of himself to honor both of his parents.

As a child, he was educated along with his numerous cousins on several topics concerning history, science, magic, art, and several other topics. The Aubrenard clan is loyal to Thaliak the Scholar, and as such value knowledge and education as sacred and necessary, considering ignorance a tragic, if curable malady. Following his clan's tradition, Larsonient studied elemental magic as a means to commune with the elemental spirits native to his homeland, although he himself has only rarely encountered them in ambiguous moments. As it happens with many Aubrenard Duskwight, however, magic fell to the wayside as Larsonient made himself familiar with stealth and archery. Although Clan Aubrenard typically disdains thievery and violence, larceny undeniably remains as one of the only ways the clan manages to survive. It is an unspoken rule that thievery is a condoned offense to Aubrenards—as long as one doesn't get caught.

By the time he reached his teenage years, Larsonient had become an able thief. His routine usually involved him visiting nearby encampments in Mor Dhona, or joining highwaymen groups in Thanalan or the Black Shroud. When he grew older, and bolder, he made longer trips to the city-states of Ul'dah and Gridania, where there were richer pockets and deeper coffers. It also doubled as a way of seeing the world, as Larsonient had been confined to caverns and the dusty, perilous lands of Mor Dhona for most of his life. Seeing other races coexisting peacefully in other cities was novel and unusual, but charming. Although the tutors of his clan had taught him much, many important lessons were learned within alleys and shadows inside city walls.

The Battle of Silvertear Skies

When the Garlean Empire advanced on Silvertear Lake in 1562, most of the Aubrenard clan had fled their cavern homes to find safety elsewhere. Larsonient stubbornly remained despite the pleas of his parents, reluctant to leave the land of his birth although he was helpless to stop the armada of airships filling the sky. He was not alone as the shadow of the dreadnought Agrius began to pour across the land, standing shoulder to shoulder with a handful of other Duskwight, likewise captivated as they lost their home without a fight. The Garleans had defeated the Aubrenards without even knowing they existed. Little did those Duskwight know, they were about to witness the defeat of the Garlean Empire.

The tides turned when Midgardsormr, the Guardian of Silvertear Lake, erupted forth to do what the Duskwight could not. It was all Larsonient could do to watch as the great dragon deity, until now a mere legend to him, rose into the sky flanked with hundreds of his wyrm brethren. It seemed like the sky was burning as they battled the Garlean airships, and many of Larsonient's remaining companions fled as some of it began to fall to the earth. Only he and his two elder cousins remained as the battle finally drew to a close and Agrius began to plummet downward. He cheered, but his elation was short-lived. The ground shook violently beneath his feet when the dreadnought crashed into the lake, which was when he realized Midgardsormr had taken a deathblow as well. Seeing a god die in the defense of the land seemed to break something in Larsonient, who became inconsolably upset at the scene and had to be dragged away by his cousins.

Although there were several moments in Larsonient's latter childhood that made him question his choice to live as a thief, it was this moment in his early adulthood that he knew what he should be doing with his life. Being nineteen years old and still a mere thief, he realized he was wasting his life when the gods themselves stood up to defend the land before he would. Swearing off the ways of his old life, Larsonient made the familiar journey to Gridania, this time seeking to join the Conjurer's guild and make his place along with other adventurers that entered the city. Thus began his career as a battle healer, and later, a Twin Adder.

The Battle of Carteneau

Some ten years later, Larsonient would find himself on the battle front in what would be called the Battle of Carteneau. At the time it seemed like the culmination of his career as a Twin Adder and a defender of Eorzea, coming face to face with the invaders of his childhood home and the murderers of Midgardsormr. The battle itself was intense, but by then Larsonient was a talented healer dedicated to keeping his comrades on their feet. As Dalamud began to descend from the sky however, he realized he had underestimated the savagery of the Garlean Empire.

Larsonient was gravely injured in the calamity that followed, and would spend months in recovery after being brought to safety by his fellows.
