WARNING: This character is manipulative and kind of evil.

[edit]

GENERAL INFORMATION

Born heir to House Wilhelmin, a minor but respectable noble line of Ishgard, Laurent watched his family name erased overnight when the Viscountess—his mother—was branded a heretic. Raised in the Brume by his half-sister Lynette Greystone, he trained himself to wield a shield with the hope of protecting those he loved. Lynette’s later death shattered what little faith he had left in Ishgard.
He rose through the ranks of the Temple Knights with calculated grace, clearing his family’s name and plotting the downfall and deaths of those responsible. Yet vengeance brought no peace. When the Dragonsong War finally came to an end, Ishgard was moving on, but Laurent could not. He laid down his post and left the Holy See, traveling beyond Coerthas in search of meaning — or perhaps punishment.

APPEARANCE

Laurent is a tall, lean man with an athletic build honed by years of martial training. Among those who cross his path, he is known as a courteous but distant man. He has light brown hair, often kept long enough to partly shadow his face, and his eyes are strikingly mismatched.
Aspects That Stand Out:
Heterochromia: Left eye warm pinkish red, right eye a stormy gray.

PERSONALITY

Laurent is outwardly polite and charming, a model of the perfect knight. Beneath that mask, however, he is highly calculating, cunning, and strategic, able to read people and situations with uncanny precision. He is protective of those he cares about, yet trusts very few, and hides his true thoughts behind layers of social grace. His true emotions are expressed only in rare, private moments. There is a kind of alertness and innate distance that had been instilled in him. He looked at things without emotions, and even when he smiled, his eyes didn't bend, as if he was constantly measuring and calculating.

FAMILY
Lynette Greystone, older half-sister. ( ) - Title.
Character's Thoughts: "She was the most important person in my life. I couldn't bear living in the same place we decorated together, seeing her shadows everywhere, subconciously expecting her to open the door at any moment."
Lynette practically raised Laurent ever since he was six.

Lady Liliane, Mother. ( ) - Viscountess.
Character's Thoughts: "I don't see her that often, but she used to read books to me."
Viscountess Liliane is the siblings' shared mother. She was more involved in Laurent's life, but he was too young to remember the details.

Lord Ederic, Father. ( ) - Title.
Character's Thoughts: "He took me hunting once... It's no use thinking about him now. He's dead."
The biological father of Laurent, who was from a noble line proper.
NON-FAMILY
Bujir Tumet, it's complicated.
( ) - Title.
Character's Thoughts: "He is infuriatingly stubborn and naive. I don't understand why they rush to sacrifice themselves..."
Bujir was one of the Au'ra refugees that set the wheels in motion, ultimately leading to Lynette's death. Laurent knew it was not their fault, but he cannot let go that easily. In making Bujir do his dirty work, Laurent also knew he was exploiting Tumet's guilt, initially commanding, humiliating, and testing him under the pretext that "you owe me a sister." He doesn't admit it yet, but he had gotten attached to him.
Ed, childhood friend. ( ) - Title.
Character's Thoughts: "She’s loud, reckless, and annoying sometimes—but somehow she keeps me grounded."
Laurent sees Ed as both a tool and a companion. He respects her instinctive skill and adaptability, yet finds her casual, carefree nature irritating at times. While he occasionally softens around her, he rarely lets her see his true calculations, keeping a subtle distance. Nevertheless, he cares greatly about her.

RUMORS

N P C

Some of these rumors are untrue, speculation, or are greatly exaggerated.

◢ Common Rumors - Easily overheard. Use these freely!
“He didn’t even draw his sword when the brawl almost broke out. Just stood there, spoke to them calmly, and in the end they all backed off. No yelling, no threats. That’s the sort of man you respect.” — Old Blacksmith.
“Laurent has a mind for strategy and a heart for people. It’s no wonder the commander values him so highly.” — Young Temple Knight.
“I've never liked those Temple knights, barking orders and threaten folks, but this one? Polite, fair, and actually listened. I don't know if it's the words, cleverness or something else, but he talked to us like humans. Helped rebuild the granary after the storm, worked side by side with us common folk. Makes you think maybe some of them can be trusted.” — Farmhand taking a break.
“I always knew they weren’t guilty! Can you believe it? All these years, the whole family was innocent. Laurent made sure justice was done. Honestly, I can’t stop smiling every time I see him at the gates.” — Cheerful Girl
◢ Uncommon Rumors - A little more difficult to hear. Use sparingly or ask first!
“I never thought a knight could know his way around the kitchen. He baked a Snowflake Peak for the orphanage last Starlight, and I swear it was the finest cake I've ever tasted.” — Orphanage Cook
“Remember that Wilhelmein brat? A heretic’s son. His sister too. Yet he walks the halls like he belongs.” — Gossiping Temple Knight.
“From heretic kin to Knight Templar in less than a decade… And still the commander keeps him close. Either the boy is incredibly talented, or dangerously sly.” — Highborn Temple Knight
“Hmph. So they weren’t heretics after all. I'll admit he’s clever, but you'd be a fool to believe every word that comes out of that boy's mouth.” — Suspicious Nobleman
“He smiles, he bows, he helps everyone… He’s perfect in every way, yes, but too perfect. Best to stay on his good side. Do not become his enemy, you’ll regret it.” — Veteran Temple Knight
◢ Rare Rumors - Very rarely overheard. Please ask before using!
"She doesn’t say it out loud. He doesn’t seem to understand it yet. But it doesn’t matter what name the world gives them. He’s her brother, and she’s his sister. That’s family. And family survives in the Brume when nothing else does." — Weathered Old Woman.
"Ed and Laurent, huh? Yeah, they’re a strange pair, but... When he’s with Ed, he’s different. He seems a little more like a kid, like she pulls him out of whatever dark place he hides in." — Grizzled Mercenary.
"I feel bad for the lad, sometimes. They’ve got him marching in line and quoting history before he’s lost all his baby teeth. I reckon he’s lonely. Seen him looking out windows more than once. It’s not his fault he was born with one funny eye... Makes you wonder if he’ll ever really be a boy, or just a title wearing skin." — Stablehand.
"The young master’s only six, but he sits straighter and speaks clearer than some grown men at court. I’ve never had to correct him twice. That eye of his unnerves some, but I say it’s a sign. That child sees more than he lets on. He was born to rule." — Etiquette Tutor.
