Leonhart Monteblanc

Appearance
Roguishly handsome and rough around the edges, "Leo" dresses to impress in an impeccable suit and sensible shoes even when pounding the enemies of his patron, Lady Sigrunne Ascaelle. He wears his blonde hair long, but bound up off his neck and his facial hair just on the lazy side of groomed.
History
Once, he went by a very different name. Tortured by his past and the monster inside him, Leonhart spent a long time on the road as a sellsword, a free knight, and at one point, a wandering minstrel; all to avoid the darkness that's chased him his entire life. Born Lukasfort Jav'ren of the Vale, the Coerthas born Elezen was found on the outskirts of the Aurum Vale by a band of adventurers. Shivering and blood-soaked, the child was taken from the site of his family's vicious slaughter and transported to Gridania where he was adopted by Foustiniel and Paulunet Monteblanc, a Gods Quiver hunter and his wife.
When he was of age, he trained with the lance and learned to hunt with his father and the other bowmen but no matter how hard he tried, there was always something in the shadows behind him. Something evil. This fear drove him to travel to Ul'dah, his first attempt to escape it and while there, the young Elezen learned the Sword and Board with the Gladiators under the shrewd, uncompromising eye of the First Blade. Eventually, he took the mantle of "Free Knight" and rode out of Ul'dah upon his chocobo to outrun his demons once more and it was back in the Shroud where he met the Harbingers of the Dawn.
His first free company, the Harbingers were a good group of adventurers but Lukas failed to assimilate among them. His darkness, his "night self" as he called it, kept him ever at arms length with even those who felt they could call him friend. In time, fear of what he might do to his comrades forced him to travel back to Coerthas and the Holy See for exorcism and purification, truly believing that the shadow inside him was either demon or the Nidhogg's influence. There below the seat, Lukas was purified by pain and nearly killed for his bedeviled soul but save for a pilgrim of Adama Landama who somehow convinced the Bishopry to give Lukas over to him to serve pilgrimage as penance for his tainted existence.
Shortly after leaving Coerthas behind, the pilgrim released Lukas of his servitude, with a few coins and some food, bidding the tormented Elezen to find his own peace for once. However, instead of finding that peace, Lukas ran away once again and transformed himself into Leonhart Monteblanc, so named after his adopted parentage. More time passed as Leonhart traveled, performing for villages for scraps of food and what little gil could be spared, or hunting and gathering to trade for supplies where he came across a company called Driftwood Coast, though like the name; his time among them was fleeting, yet he'd become involved with a Duskwight woman named Maki who proved to be his first and only love. In time, he followed a wild bunch of pirates and troublemakers he found in Northern Thanalan back to their company home and helped himself to their provisions and their furnishings until finally joining the merry crew. The Pirates of a Wayward Star proved only to be a stopping point as well though as he continued to outrun his night self's influence. After a demon attack on a small village and the near death of his only true friend among the pirates, Leonhart made a startingly discovery. In times of great crisis, he could call upon his 'night self' to battle but with grave consequence. It took over him, was victorious over the demonic host, but when Leonhart returned to his senses; he was overcome with the anguish and violence of the great battle all at once.
Once more, he ran away and began to test the limits of what he and his darker half could do. Further reinvention had turned the wandering Elezen from a bedraggled minstrel to retainer to Lady Sigrunne Ascaelle recently after meeting the knight in Camp Drybone. No longer running from his dark side, the future is wide open for Leo.
Personality
Expressive in sarcastic tones, Leo appears calm, cool, and collected at all times. He can be verbose and come across as very intelligent, but most of the time he prefers to let actions speak for him. Despite this, he enjoys giving Sigrunne a hard time if only because she's snobbish as most Coerthans are.
Affiliations and Known Associates
Dacero Duskbringer and Poe Bisaine: His two favorite people from Wayward Star, Dacero is the only person in the world that Leo considers a friend. Poe, Dacero's Mate, is very much the closest thing Leo has to a "sister".
Maki Rui: Leo's first and only love, though they are now estranged and have lost track of each other. Regardless, he remains devoted to her.
Sigrunne Ascaelle: Leo's employer, an uptight Coerthan knight who despite her forward words and brusque demeanor accepted his help and took him on as her retainer. In her own way, it was a show of vulnerability that impressed him greatly.
