Basic Info

Preferred Monikers: M'wanthala, or M'wan to her friends. She dislikes being called Khryn, that's her father's name not hers. She also follows the tradition of dropping the M when talking to members of her own tribe.

Style: When she first started tinkering with things she was given a pair of goggles. Ever since then she has had a fascination with goggles in general and likes wearing them. When she’s not wearing goggles she likes headgear that is adorned with feathers or wide brim hats.

Personality

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Defining Personality Traits

  • She likes to explore new places and has been known to cite just about anything as an adventure waiting to happen! It doesn’t matter if it’s a trip to the market or exploring an old forest, to her each experience is an adventure.
  • She will go out of her way to help others. If she hears a sob story or someone in need, she’ll do everything in her power to help them. She is also a very trusting individual. It’s a surprise being in Ul’dah for so long that she hasn’t been swindled as much as she could be.
  • She has no concept of gil or how the markets work. In her mind she gathers what she needs, she makes it and then gives it away to those in need. When someone pointed out she could make gil by selling her wares, she tried that out, but still hasn’t fully grasped the finer points of selling.
  • Even though she isn’t around the M’ tribe she still considers herself a part of them and follows the formalities and customs of the tribe.

Skills

Archer - From an early age M’wanthala looked up to the other hunters of the tribe and wanted to be one of them. She learned how to track and hunt and was soon allowed to hunt on her own. After spending time helping to rebuild the tribe at the start of the 7th Umbral Age she put down the bow. This time when she left she decided to train at the Archers guild in Gridania. After being told she knew nothing of how to wield a bow from Silvarre, M’wanthala took that to heart and dedicated herself to make sure her arrows would ring true.

Bard - After hearing whisperings of the Moogles in the Twelveswood, M’wanthala was directed to seek out Jehantel. After testing her heart he decided she had what it would take to become a bard. She had a song in her heart and she could bring out the best in the others around her. After traveling all over Eorzea learning to listen to the world around her, she has been able to find the songs in the hearts of others. Her favorite song to sing is one that inspires the listeners to pick up their feet and allow them to seem lighter and faster while traveling.

Tinkerer - When she was a child she wanted to create her own bow. After she became an Adventurer she started working in the Carpentry guild. However she started becoming frustrated that she couldn’t find the items she needed to make the things she wanted. So she determined she’d have to learn everything to be self sufficient enough to make anything. Her dream is to one day make an airship and fly around with the wind in her hair!

Conjury - After the death of her sister, she’s started learning healing magic because that’s what her sister was doing, and maybe if she knows some of this then others might be able to live. She’s not very good at it as her mind seems to be distracted when trying to reach out to the elementals.

History

Childhood - Born 1549

This part of the M tribe was situated at the edge of the shroud and the desert. They would wander between the two as hunting dictated. As a child she spent her time exploring places and getting into trouble. When she was five, she was given her first bow and began her training as a huntress. She would often venture farther and farther out in her hunts, not because prey was scarce, but because she wanted to see what was out there. When she tired sixteen she announced she was going to venture and see what was out there in the world!

6th Astral Era Wandering - 1565

For her this was her age of exploration! She traveled far and wide seeing so much of Eorzea for the first time. She got into many places she shouldn't have, but was able to get out unscathed. Her days as a huntress served her well in knowing when to hide and run away. It was during this time she met another Miqo'te out adventuring named Euphie. The two started to adventure together. M’wanthala learned that it actually felt better to have someone who could watch your back and share things with rather than do everything on your own.

She made a small home in Ul'dah, sometimes living in the Inn and other times spent on Pearl Lane. It was during this time the dark streets of Ul’dah taught her about the power of gil. She didn’t really learn the lesson of it, other than if you had it, you could get things. So she started with the Miners Guild to make a wage for herself. When she showed up there she was asked if she was there to be a dancer. She was shocked at this and pointed to the bow on her back.

After going through her first stint in the mines she learned this wasn’t the work she wanted to do as she got distracted by wanting to go down other places in the mine and would bring back anything shiny that caught her eye. However, now she had the drive to go exploring in all sorts of place and bring back whatever interesting things she would find. Most of those things she brought back from her adventures she didn’t know what it was or didn’t have a use for it so she took them to one of the caravans of Ul’dah. One of the lalafell there made her a deal telling her that if she only brought her treasures (junk) to him that he’d make sure she was paid top gil for it. So she started bringing everything she found to him, and started saving up gil because she didn’t know what else to do with it.

After exploring a lot of the region of Thanalan, M’wanthala finally made her first trip across the sea to Limsa Lominsa. She loved the way the city was built, she loved the crisp sea breezes that would come in off of the water, and she loved climbing to the highest points to just look out at all the things below.

M’tanla moves to Limsa

Fall of Dalamud - Year 0 of the 7th Umbral Age (1572)

When the Garleans were marching and the call was made for all to go to Chartenu, M’wanthala answered the call. Or at least she was going to. M’tanla, her sister, had a bad feeling about things and asked her not to go. M’wanthala followed where the wind would take her and made her way to the region. It was then that Dalamud fell and the terror was unleashed upon the world. M’wanthala immediately stopped and tried to go back to her sister. When she got back her sister’s house was in rubble and on fire. After digging through the rubble in the following day, she found her sister, dead.

Rebuilding - Years 1-2 of the 7th Umbral Age (1573-4)

M’wanthala did not take the death of her sister well. She constantly blamed herself for not being there to protect her sister. She took the body and brought it back to the tribe so proper burial rights could be performed. After that she had lost the will to adventure. She stayed with the tribe and did everything she could to assist them. Her skills in tinkering and building things were a big help to the tribe and she found comfort in the fact that skills she learned outside the tribe were able to help the tribe. One day the Nunh summoned her. She thought this would be her time to be joined, but she was wrong. He spoke of the accomplishments she had done, but that her passion was no longer there and she was just a shell of what she once was and not fitting to one who could continue the tribe. The thought that the Nunh didn’t think she could be a mate shocked her. He told her to go out and find herself again and to come back when life had returned to her soul.

7th Umbral Era Wandering - Year 3 of the 7th Umbral Age (1575-6)

After leaving the tribe for the second time she traveled to Gridania to enroll with the Archers guild because she hadn’t touched the bow much since she had returned to the tribe. Her first lessons were from Master Silvairre. He broke her down and made her question if she ever really knew how to use a bow. But through determination and willpower she set out to prove him wrong. The season she spent learning from him was a harsh one, but at the end she was able to pick up on his subtle hints and could tell that even though he wouldn’t say it, he was impressed with how far she had come.

After learning about the song in her heart, she began to travel all around to find the songs elsewhere. The sunrise held a song, so did the ocean breeze, and even people in the markets. Songs were everywhere. She thanked Oschon for setting her on this path of letting her hear the world anew.

Present - Year 5 of the 7th Umbral Age (1577)

When the Garlond Ironworks set up shop in Revenant’s Toll, M’wanthala made her way there to try to join them. She wasn’t able to join them, but what she learned in there has allowed her to become a better tinkerer.

In recent times she has reunited with her friend Euphie in Ul’dah and made many more friends from her adventures. After some time it was decided they should become their own Free Company. Sitting around a table in The Hourglass they decided on the name, Chocobo’s Wing. M’wanthala went out and brought back a feather and gave it to each founding member letting them know, “Each of us is just a feather, but all of us together are the wings.”

Information about Chocobo’s Wing:
Slogan: Wings to travel, wings to explore, wings to protect.
Song: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/173682/blog/994877/
Crest: The company crest is that of a golden chocobo in front of a green triangle that splits the blue background in two. The lower of the blue stands for the water, the middle green the land, and the upper blue is the sky. While the chocobo stands for the Free Company itself.

H’zaana - The Miqo’te at Haldiq & Vymelli’s was one of the first people who inspired her to start working with metal.

Other Notes

Rumors

Common:
If you need something made, you can reach out to her for good quality and cheap prices.

Uncommon:
She might be able to sing a song or two, but don’t let her draw you a picture, apparently art is not her strong point.

Rare:
She pushed her way through and insisted on seeing Master Cid. Amazingly he took time to look over her schematics and made some suggestions on how she could improve it.
