Appearance & Personality
Makoto is a typical caretaker, and has a knack for having people talk to him about anything and everything. He is calm, collected and seldom to never really seems to be angry or upset. So either he is very good at hiding those things, or he is just as calm as he looks and feels. He is also a bookworm, and most of his own living quarters are filled from top to bottom with books about anything and everything.

HistoryBefore memory loss:
Being the youngest of four siblings, two older brothers and one older sister, he soon learned that he had to make a stand for himself and not be pushed around. His parents worked as guards for travelers and their freight so they traveled a lot from a young age. Both parents teaching the kids on their travels, so they would be ready to join them when they got old enough. Their life was simple, but in most ways good. They got to see a lot of the world around them, meet many people, and learn quite a lot about the different tribes of the steppes and generally the different people around their world.
This life however ended rather abruptly when they were traveling trough the stepped with a large shipment for one of their richer clients, as they were attacked by the Dothral for traveling in their lands, but mostly because they wanted what they were guarding and had no intent to pay for it. They had stalked the group for quite a while, and knew just how to hit them as effectively as possible. Arrow raining down on them took out the horses pulling the cart, and several of the guards being unlucky enough to be hit just wrong. Then came the full force of the attack, slicing and cutting down their adversaries without any fear or remorse, leaving the siblings to defend for themselves, while watching their family being slaughtered before their eyes.
When they assumed them all dead, they took the cargo and left the carnage behind them, leaving a gravely wounded and almost dead child lying under the body of his sister who with her last strength protected him with her own body. How long he was there is not known, but his rescuers would say at least a day. They only realized he wasn't dead when they were trying to remove the bodies and send them back to their families. As they lifted his sister, they could see his hand suddenly grab hers, as if trying with his last strength to keep her close.
After memory loss:
He would learn later that he had been found by the Mol, and it was them who saved his life and nursed him slowly back to health. At first they thought he just didn't want to talk about what happened, but after a while they came to learn two things, he couldn't actually hear their questions the damage done to him had taken away his hearing, and he had no memory of anything before he woke up with them. After a council between the elders of the Mol village and their elder Shaman, they decided it might be for the best that he had no memory of what had transpired.
He stayed with the Mol for several years, learning their ways, and learning how to read lips so that he could understand when they talked to him. He also learned how to control his own voice that he could no longer hear, much with the help of one of the village elders. It was also her that thought him meditation, and simply the way of letting things be, and enjoying the here and now for what it was. He learned their way of interpreting the stars and the sky and he started to show an interest in learning how to cook.
It wasn't often that he went outside the village, but they sometimes took him with them to Reunion when they were selling their wares or needed something, and it was there his life changed once again. It was where he met the two that would become his family. Even if at first he was unwilling to leave what he considered home, a long talk with the tribe elder eventually changed his mind. He knew he was different than everyone else there, his scales were the wrong color, and they had told him how they had found him all alone without going into too many details.
The two people who stepped into his life, are the ones he today calls his parents. Both were chefs, his mother specializing in bakery and desserts, while his dad worked side by side with his wife with the main courses, with a specialty within all things meat. He could make almost anything really, but he was best when it came to meat. They had been told by the Mol how he had been found and what little they knew, but they had also suggested that they leave his past as just that. So they did, the only thing they tried to help him with was to get his hearing back, but no doctor could find a way to help, eventually he got so good at reading lips, that they almost forgot he couldn't hear them.
His interest and love from cooking also came from them, and he excelled at it to the point where they had no more they could teach him. But once again he was in luck, and was offered a trip to Eorzea to learn more from the chefs there. After years of travel there, he returned to his homeland, and with the help of his parents he opened his own inn. Why he picked the design for it to be Carbunkles and Moogles he didn't really know, but for some odd reason it just felt right. Whenever he isn't working, he is often traveling or he can be found at his second "Home" in the Mol camp in Azim Steppe.
