Etymology
Recently (past 100 years), "Mallory" has been described as an Anglo-Norman nickname for an unfortunate person: Maillorie, Malleorre, corresponding to the Old French adjective maleüré (unhappy, unlucky), from Old French noun maleür (unhappiness, bad luck), French malheur.
