Basic Info

The son of Captain Eadwine Clark and Leanna Clark, Mason is an upper-crust young man from Limsa Lominsa. An educated young man, he has devoted much of his life to the study of arcanima. Shy and introverted, he is also ultimately a kindhearted young man who wishes to use his knowledge to improve the world around him. With his focus on Nymian arcanima, his power as an arcanist has grown as he learns older magical arts. He intends to become stronger in order to help people in a greater capacity.

History

Mason was born in Limsa Lominsa to Eadwine and Leanna Clark. He was raised in the upper-crust of Limsa Lominsa, along with the high ranking members of the Maelstrom and the rich merchant captains. While his father is a captain in the Maelstrom, his mother is a senior member of the Arcanist's Guild, and this afforded him a fairly comfy lifestyle. Born an only child, he was the sole focus of his parents' hopes and dreams. This is why, from a young age, he was raised to be an intelligent and focused young man. As soon as he was able to understand the basics, he was brought into the arcanist's guild and began studying arcanima.

He grasped the concepts quickly and began to study this craft with earnest, making his parents very happy. He spent a lot of his formative years in libraries and with tutors, studying his days away. While it did wonders for his ability to learn arcanima, it also didn't exactly allow him to social or earn a lot of friends. At high society functions and other social engagements, Mason became known as a wallflower. He seemed to vastly prefer his books and his tomes. This was only partially true. He just could not figure out how, so it was much easier to shy away from social engagement.

However, it was during a routine inspection as part of his duties that changed the path of his study. In the contents of contraband taken from a pirate ship, he found some artifacts related to the ruined civilization of Nym. This even included an ancient grimoire of Nymian scholar arcanima. While it took a while to decipher, he eventually managed to crack it and began to learn it's secrets. This sparked his interest in Nymian scholars and he finally decided upon where he would focus his attentions. He focused on gathering as much Nymian knowledge as he could. His thinking is that reviving their magic could be a great asset to other people.

Now he sees himself as an inheritor of the Nymian scholars' art. His hope is that, by studying what they learned, he might be able to protect and heal the ones he cares about around him. He is motivated by a genuine sense of altruism and wishes to put his skills to a humanitarian cause. While this is true, he is not interested in joining the Grand Companies in a military sense, but he may be open to an organization with relief in mind.

Personality

As stated above, Mason is a very shy and introverted young man. In social situations he tends to be much more quiet and in the background. When interacting with new people, Mason tends to be cautious and not talkative. However, Mason is also a very kindhearted man. He often will put aside what he wants in order to help others. This can lead him to be self-sacrificing to a fault. While somewhat admirable, it can also be indicative of a need to be validated through these actions.

Mason can be his own toughest critic, taking failures very easily. He magnifies his own faults in his mind and it can lead him to being hypercritical and dower. These moments cause his self-esteem to dip and it can put him into a depressive state, which can be hard for him or others to shake. These moments can give fuel to his previously stated 'messiah complex', wanting to self-sacrifice in order to gain some sort of worth, whether it is warranted or not. Part of the origin of this is the fact that his parents forced their ambitions on him from such a young age, success becoming such a large part of his self-esteem.

However, in the end, Mason is a genuinely altruistic young man who wants to make improvements to Hydaelyn. He is a bit cautious to venture out into the world, due to the comfortable life he came from, but he is working toward being able to make this leap. He understands that sitting in his nice manor and accumulating knowledge will not solve any greater problems. He feels his knowledge must be practically applied in order to help others. But he is a hard-working individual and he is taking steps to become the healer he desires to be.
