BACKGROUND

Born as the second son to a single mother in the risky and poverty ridden lands of Thanalan, Mue'to was brought up on only the essentials in life. Unfortunately, stories from his elder brother were the only thing that kept the memory of his mother alive due to her sudden disappearance when Mue'to was far too young to even remember her face. Neither of them knew what truly happened to her when she set off to visit Ul'dah, however the reality of the situation was perhaps too grim for the young miqo'te brothers at the time.

The two were left abandoned at their small isolated camp when Mue'to was probably only just five years old, and his brother at the age of twelve. Because of this, Mue'to was raised by his older brother whom taught him how to survive the harsh drylands of Thanalan and how to get by with any means he could. Though they only had a small tent of shade to call home, they continued to live their lives outside of the Ul'dahn walls, choosing instead to live freely under the sky and away from the influence of others. While watching passing travelers come to and from the walled city of Ul'dah, Mue'to's brother quickly learned that they could get by with trading found objects to some of the vendors inside the city. This lead to the only way of life Mue'to came to know.

Mue'to was never not by his brother's side growing up, following him through dangers and learning how to sneak by unwanted attention. He was taught what to look for and what to watch out for. They started out finding valuable rocks and minerals, eventually branching out to explore the ruins that scattered the Thanalan region, and even going as far as taking what valuables they could from the graves and tombs of the dead.

As grim as it was, Mue'to was never educated on how wrong it may be to take from the dead. His brother encouraged him with a smile that those who have passed on buried their treasures with them so that they could one day be found. Mue'to wholeheartedly believed, and still to this day lives by those words. His actions, while morally wrong, lack any malicious intent in that he is just simply oblivious to the sensitivity of the matter.

Though their efforts never made them much coin or trade, it was enough to get themselves the necessities they needed to take back to camp. Very rarely were they ever able to treat themselves to anything other than that. By the time Mue'to's brother reached adulthood, he started feeling as though he should be able to make more of a living for both him and Mue'to, and as a result, began getting involved in discreet jobs no one else would take. For good reason.

It wasn't long before this backfired. Mue'to was oblivious to what his brother was actually involved in, and shortly after their first experience with the largest sum of gil either of them had ever seen, his brother was "disposed" of on his second cartel run as a means to keep information concealed. Mue'to, then thirteen at the time, was left completely on his own without ever knowing if his brother was alive or whether he would return or not. He stayed at camp for days living on what remained before he finally began to succumb to hunger and begin fending for himself.

Since then, Mue'to still gets by with the only way he knew how. He occasionally brings his findings to Ul'dah to try and trade, but he doesn't so much do it for the earnings, and instead just because he enjoys the exploration and freedom, living each day admiring the idea of adventure in the same way a child would foolishly romanticize it. Whether or not Mue'to is brave, or just blissfully oblivious to the dangers that lurk, his naive curiosity could end up being his downfall if he isn't more careful.

APPEARANCE

Having a small frame, Mue'to is a bit on the smaller side compared to other miqo'te of his age, standing at just a little over 5 fulm. While his small build does prove to be an advantage for him when trying to hide from the more than unfriendly encounters, his appearance tends to make him out to look a lot weaker and frail than he actually is. As for his complexion, due to nearly always being underneath the Thanalan sun, he holds a soft creamy tan that contrasts with his light ashy hair, yet not quite as bronze-toned as the sunseeker miqo'te that make up majority of the sunny Thanalan region.

His clothing, while carelessly put together, is always simple and a little ragged. A light, yet oversized open robe which covers most of his frame to protect him from the harsh sun, while also keeping him cool at the same time, and a cheap wrap of blue fabric that he keeps tied around his waist with his legs uncovered and exposed. He carries a small dagger tied to his hip that stays hidden underneath his robe for just in case he may find himself stuck in an unwelcome situation, and is often seen carrying an old burlap sack over his shoulder that he carries his belongings and found objects in.

While his attire makes him out to look like a good for nothing thief or street rat, his appearance could still be considered as adolescent, looking like someone who would hardly even last a day against the dangers lurking in the world around him, yet he's somehow managed to get this far on his own.

PERSONALITY

Mue'to is that person you see but never actually know anything about. He's never made much of an effort to know other people, and he for the most part only interacts with those he absolutely needs to; like trying to find a trader for his found objects, or trying to string the right words together in order to ask for directions. He can be perceived as a bit naive at times, and his curiously will likely get him into a tough situation or two, but despite all this, he's very considerate of others around him even if he may not often involve himself with the company of other people. It's not that he doesn't like anyone or doesn't want to ever open up, it just never crosses his mind that people may have any interest in him.

Even after losing a lot in his life, his outlook remains positive and innocent. He doesn't actually see the hardships that others may see. To him, it's just the way it is. He doesn't know what it means to have anything else in life than what he already has, so in his eyes he's getting by well.

ADDITIONAL CHARACTER INFORMATION

♦ Though Mue'to and his elder brother never knew the reason behind their mother's missing, the truth of her disappearance had been due to her execution under the suspicion of meddling in black magic. She had never shown any signs of such practices around her young, and the amethyst stone pendant Mue'to carries with him as a keepsake being the only connection between her and the forbidden magic. Mue'to is of course oblivious to it's value or purpose and sees it as just a very pretty stone.

♦ Despite Mue'to not having the best of a living in terms of pay, he was brought up to never ever pick-pocket or steal from others. Ironic considering his backwards understanding of what grave-robbing is.
