Synopsis: Noma Varha is a Keeper of the Moon who was blessed with the power of the Echo. She utilizes this gift to aid the Immortal Flames in their constant battle against Ifrit, as he is summoned time and time again. Beyond arcane and summoning magic, Noma is also very mechanically inclined. She can repair just about anything you set before her, provided she has the tools and materials for the job. She's a whiz in the workshop, though her utter lack of emotions and empathy make her more like the contraptions she builds than the people she associates with.

History

Noma's mother and father, Qemi and Rana'to, are former members of a Keeper tribe that dwells deep within the Twelveswood. Rana'to is the son of the matriarch of the aforementioned tribe. His mother had arranged for him to marry a Keeper of another tribe in efforts to strengthen trade bonds between the two villages, but Rana'to was already in love. When faced with the threat of exile if he denied the arrangement, the male opted to leave the shroud behind with his soon-to-be bride. With nothing but the clothes on their backs, the young Keeper couple made a long trek across Eorzea, ultimately settling down in Limsa Lominsa, where they could put their fishing and hunting skills to good use. A year and two months after settling down in Limsa, when the lovebirds were just eighteen years old, little Noma was born. They then decided to take on the surname Varha to celebrate their severed ties from their old tribe.

Though their little family could barely scrape by, young Noma needed for nothing. Her mother and father always seemed to provide for her, even when odds seemed dire and utterly stacked against them. The Keeper child began exhibiting signs of advanced intelligence quite early on, which delighted her parents. By the time she was 22 moons old, Noma was already speaking relatively well. She was at least a year ahead of the general expected age for this. At four, she was already able to read, merely by listening and watching her parents read to her every night before bed. It was around the same time that she first started showing an aptitude for aether control. It was also then that her parents started to realize that little Noma lacked empathy and emotions. She never cried much or seemed to get overly attached to toys like many her age do.

Excited by the prospect of having a little mage in their midst, Noma's mother and father sought out help from the Arcanist's guild. They found a tutor willing to mentor the young Miqo'te, and Noma seemed to catch on surprisingly well given her age. By the time she was six, she was already able to summon and control a carbuncle familiar and cast several offensive spells. She began to take an interest in her father's work at the docks, and would often shadow him while he went about his duties. He had moved well beyond a simple fisherman, and was now also helping to keep the fishing vessel up and running and in good repair. Noma was absolutely fascinated by that side of his work. By the time she was seven she knew how to perform most of her father's tasks on her own, merely by watching him work.

Things continued to carry on this way for the happy little family for quite some time. Noma excelled at her studies in Arcanima, and she was becoming quite the little mechanic the longer she tinkered and observed her father in action. Her parents had scraped together enough money to buy the girl a toolkit which she adored and put to good use. She would spend hours tinkering with scrap metal and fixing things people threw out. This carried on until shortly after Noma's tenth birthday, when the young girl suddenly became plagued with very strange dreams. When she would tell her parents about them, they began to grow worried. They put out word, looking for anyone who could help.

The Varha family did not have to wait long for help to come knocking on their door. A member of the Path of the Twelve made the trip from Ul'dah to meet with them, and discuss their daughter's rare gift. They agreed to let the man take her back to Thanalan, where she would be educated in the gift she had been blessed with. Her studies into Arcanima continued, though under new tutelage. She also kept up her hobby of fixing anything that she might find broken. The Path seemed to like her, she was an easy child to manage. So long as she was able to busy herself with something mechanical or had a tome in front of her to study, she was the most well-mannered little girl in the world. It was when she wasn't busy that she became a handful, often breaking into places she shouldn't be out of mere curiosity. Rules and locks didn't seem to prevent her from doing what she wanted, they only slowed her down.

The calamity struck when Noma was twelve, resulting in ungodly amounts of devastation. The young girl received word that her parents passed away in the incident, but it did not seem to trouble her that much. Her lack of emotions began to alarm those around her, but they for the most part held their tongues. The Path of the Twelve disintegrated as an organization, though many of its notable members went on to become the Scions. Business continued to go on as usual for the Miqo'te, and her lessons in Arcanima never halted. By the time she was seventeen years of age, Noma's magical prowess was daunting to say the least. That was when she decided to lend her aid to the Immortal Flames, as they sought to battle the constantly reemerging primal threat posed by Ifrit.

After a grueling battle with the aetheric beast, Noma discovered something peculiar. With her prowess over the arcane arts, she noticed something was peculiar about the aether left behind after Ifrit's demise. Somehow, she seemed to have attuned to it. Later that night when the raid party was camping in the desert, too tired to make the long trek back to Ul'dah, Noma crept away. Alone in the desert, she attempted a summoning ritual like the one she had mastered so long ago to call forth a carbuncle, but instead utilized Ifrit's aether that she had attuned with. To her surprise, an Egi sprang forth. She quickly dismissed it, not wanting to be struck down for summoning such a thing by the very men she camped with.

Having been introduced to the power of summoning, Noma's very curious nature drove her to want to know more. She sought out any sources of information on summoning that she could find, and has been trying to better understand the ancient art. It is her current mission to further her mastery over this newly tapped power, and she will stop at nothing to gain more. Of course, Noma is cautious and quite secretive about her dabbling in summoning magic, as she doesn't want her studies to be put to an end.

Appearance

Noma Varha is very short, standing in at only four fulms and eleven ilms. Her body is in pristine condition, not a single scar breaks apart her caramel-like complexion. Upon her forehead, she bears a black tattoo in the shape of a teardrop with three white dots running vertical to each side. Despite the high amount of physical training and running that Noma subjects herself to, she still maintains a motherly figure. She has hips a little wider than average and is also notably more chesty than one might expect, lending to her nearly hourglass figure. Don't be fooled, however, as she does possess plenty of lean muscle to compliment her more delicate and soft features. Sometimes while reading, she will sport a pair of black-rimmed glasses, though seldom wears them out in public.

Personality

Noma Varha is a highly intelligent, albeit naive individual. This, paired with her lack of emotional impulses and empathy, make her seem less like a human being and more like a machine. She always goes into every situation with a logic-minded approach, which seems to work best for her. She is not a person that feels bound by rules, laws or social obligations. She will bend or break them to achieve her goals, if necessary, but otherwise tends to abide by them as best as possible. She is very quirky and socially awkward due to her inability to process and understand emotions, both in herself and in others. Though she is not overly social, she will often engage in such activities if her curiosity is piqued. If she is able to learn something useful from an experience, more often than not, she will take part in it. Noma is not typically a risk taker, but under certain circumstances she will do so if the reward exceeds the risk.
