Overview

He is a nameless — ageless — extinct essence of who he was supposed to be. The blond miqo’te goes by “Null”, a name (if you can call it that) given to him by his owner, a rich mage from Ul’dah that bought him when he was very young. It is unknown where he came from, meaning any details like a birthday or name are nonexistent. He was taken by pirates as a baby then re-sold off for some quick gil. The mage who bought Null had been dabbling in black magic, researching heavily on the void and the creatures who live there. He bought the boy to be his personal experiment that he could use throughout the years. When he wants the boy, all he needs to do is slip him a sleeping potion and Null will wake days later having no idea what traumatic things his unconscious body had been around. The mage fed the boys lies, raising him to believe he was normal. Null is uneducated, sheltered, and quite a peculiar person due to being treated as an object for majority of his life without even realizing it. With his owner getting more involved with the illegal world of Ul'dah, and building up an empire to help his research that will help him accomplish everything he is after, there hasn't been much time for Null. The mage has begun to leave Null alone for weeks at a time, and his belonging has grown lonely. So isolated that going out into the terrifying world has began to seem like a solution to his crippling loneliness.

History

Childhood
One of Null's easiest memories is bring brought home with the mage who bought him. The boy had never been taught to ask strangers their names, so when he was told by the man that he wanted Null to call him 'Papa' from that day forth, the boy did not question it. He was brought to a large home in Ul'dah where he was allowed to run about exploring all day long. He didn't understand why the man had so many bedrooms if he lived all alone and the miqo'te also couldn't figure out why the man had two bedrooms with dolls inside. When he touched one of the small play staffs, his hand was hit and he was told to leave everything how it was. His bedroom was going to be on the lower level so he was lead down the stairs, the miqo'te happily hopped down each step until his bare feet hit the cold stone floor. Papa kept the kitten locked down there for a few months. It was awkward for the two. The young boy would quietly entertain himself with the statues and pretend they were his friends. The mage would entertain his guests upstairs trying to pretend he didn't have an illegally bought creature living in his basement. Then again... The kitten he bought from those pirates wasn't exactly the only illegal thing he was hiding. The two seemed to only interact when Papa came down to feed the boy. It was difficult for the man to try and bond with a stray animal like the miqo'te.

After the shock of owning another being settled in the mage's stomach, he decided to get back to work. He wasn't going to bond with the boy, and he wasn't going play the babysitter. This miqo'te was for him to advance on his research and test with. The man wasn't even expecting the boy to survive more than a few years, after all. He was highly expecting the boy's whole being and every ounce of aether to be lost within the void by the time he was done with him. The sacrifice was a small price to pay for the information he wished to acquire though. He was a small lost kitten that nobody wanted. He had nothing to offer, useless, null, impractical... He was Null. When Null was first told that was what he was going to be called from that day forth, he thought it sounded weird. After a week of being called 'Null' anytime Papa needed something, it began to sound like any other name the young boy had heard over the course of his short life. Null's life was a blur at such a young age. All he can remember from his childhood is his hands getting hit a lot for touching things he wasn't supposed to. He remembered befriending the statues in the basement and giving them all names. He remembered being told that he needed to behave and let Papa touch his statue friends with 'the darkness', as Null named it. Null never understood the things that were happening in the large house he grew up in.
Early Adolescence
There was a day when Null finally wanted to go outside and see what was out past the doors he's been hidden behind for as long as he could remember. He'd leave the basement at times to help Papa with chores. The man began to want Null to clean and help hand him things for work when he didn't want to get up from his seat... Then other times he'd be told things that didn't exactly make sense. To put things in order from smallest to largest that seemed completely identical, to crawl under the man's bed and lay there very still for an hour or two at a time, to check behind all the doors, to place plates of food in every closet the house had. Null might not have understood why the man asked him to do these jobs, but he always tried his hardest wanting to get the man's approval. The happier he made Papa, the more time the mage would spend with him so he wouldn't be left alone, isolated in the large basement areas of the house... Or so that was Null's logic.

As time passed, there was a change in Papa. The longer he spent cooped up in his office rooms messing with large books (that Null had never been taught to read) and different staffs that were carved from bones, the more distant his eyes grew. The man had always been slightly violent, but even Null took notice when the man became gory. He broke Null's pinky fingers one day for cleaning his office room's doorknob thinking he was trying to break in. Little mistakes and misunderstandings turned to violent outbursts. It was also around this time Null had his first few encounters with void creatures. They'd burst through the house, tearing up furniture and letting out terrible screeching sounds. Once Null was torn out of bed by a creature with claws that had it's mind set on slaying him. It was Papa who charged in and prevented him from being slaughtered right then and there. Null began to ask about what the darkness was. He wanted to understand the dangers and why these things were happening lately. That was when Papa lost his temper, screaming at Null about how he was ruining everything. The blame was placed on his shoulders and all these bad things were happening because he wasn't being good enough. He sliced Null's tail in half claiming it would help put the house's aether back in balance and then began to storm around the house talking to himself.
Present
Papa has been one of the only people Null has interacted with over the course of his life. While his exact age is unknown, he is now just old enough for a curiosity to start to kick up again. Papa has begun to grow busy with his illegal business that is growing, he doesn't have enough time to scare Null out of leaving that house he'd been locked in his whole life. Null has been left pacing the house's halls and gets so bored that he doesn't know what to do with himself. Watching the outside world through windows had become a hobby for him, even though Papa had fed him so many lies of the outside world the thought of stepping outside kills him. Then again, occasionally he'd see a person walk by the house from a distance. Null's life changed the day he layered up in clothes, and followed a stranger. He was lead into the city of Ul'dah, he walked the streets with many other people, something he'd never experienced before. It was so overwhelming he quickly found himself rushing back to his safe basement where he stayed still for days trying to stop himself from having panic attacks.

After exploring that one time, it stayed vivid in the front of his head. Although it was an overwhelming experience that he'd never faced before, for some reason he wanted it. He finally began to slip out of the house a few times and see the world for what it was. And by "the world", I mean the inner gates of the city of Ul'dah. Null is now a socially awkward stupid train wreck of a miqo'te. Anyone who interacts with him will be immediately able to understand there is something extremely off with him. Null is also very uneducated in the world. He has not been taught to read, write, or how simple things in the world work. Everything from the idea of aether to trees have been distorted making him fear things that make no sense. He has weird habits and finds himself stuttering quite often when he tries to speak his opinion.

Details

Appearance
Null2.png
I will start off with the features that stick out most for the miqo'te. The boy has a small frame that suggests he may not be finished growing yet, or he is simply unfortunate enough to be scrawny and nearly defenseless for his entire life. He has been locked in a house for most his life so the most exercise he's ever had is cleaning a room, which might also be an explanation as to why. It's not hard to tell that Null is rather fragile and he's the last person you'd want on your side when you need someone to have your back for a fight. The next feature that is rather noticeable is the tiny stump of a tail that hangs just above his knees. His fur is smooth and well kept, tidy, until you get to the very edge. His tail turns to a clumped nearly mangled looking curls with some bald patches from the scarring. Anyone who pays close enough attention can see that it's been damaged, although when looking from afar some might think it is simply an unusually short tail and perfectly normal.

Null has a dirty blond hair that frames his rather rounded face, he has soft features like round eyes, a small nose, and thin lips. He has very pure light blue eyes that match the innocent stupid expression he normally has plastered across his face. He acts rather clumsy and uncomfortable in his skin, so his movements are usually forced and unnatural. His posture is hunched over, making it clear and obvious that he doesn't feel as though he ever belongs where he is at the moment. The miqo'te also has a small scar across his cheek that has faded a bit over the years. If one gets the opportunity to examine his skin they might see more imprints of scars, discolorations, and unnatural marks that have been attempted to have been fixed by a not-so-skilled healer of some type. While most are very faint and difficult to see, the marks were not able to have been completely removed or healed properly.
