History/Timeline

Born into a small tribe deep in the forests of Gridania, Nyx grew up in relative solitude and quiet. She was content to stay within the peace of the forest with her family but some time ago her brother went missing. Miqo'te males are often secretive and come and go as they please but her brother hasn't been back to the tribe in nearly a year. Far too long to stay away and not at all like him. Seeing how agitated and upset with worry her mother and the family elders became with each passing day, as the eldest among her siblings Nyx took it upon herself to leave the safety of the tribe and find out what had become of her brother, Tojah'a.

Since that time she has been able to trace her brother back to Limsa Lominsa and stumbled upon his involvement with the Rogue's Guild. From there the trail has gone cold, for while the leader of the guild freely admits Tojah'a was one of them, he went missing and the guild hasn't been able to turn up any leads.

Character

Appearance

Nyx has the typical build of most female Keepers, lithe and slender. She carries herself with an easy, almost feline grace that comes naturally to the Miqo'te. What she lacks in bulk, she more than makes up for in speed and agility out in the field. She goes about her day-to-day without calling attention to herself. Her clothing is simple and functional, eschewing bright colors or loud ornamentation.

Reticent and reserved, she's more accustomed to observing rather than being observed and as such her thoughts and emotions don't always come across in her facial expressions. Her outward reactions are subtle. She's more apt to twitch her tail at something she finds amusing than she is to let go a laugh.

Personality

Aloof and tight-lipped, most would say. She's somewhat of a loner by nature and doesn't feel the need to socialize the way many people do, chatting and catching up over an ale. Which isn't to say she doesn't form bonds with people, but she tends to put her energy into a handful of quality friendships rather than waste time in idle small talk with a plethora of acquaintances. Besides, she appreciates her space. Admittedly, she's difficult to get to know well. She holds back her ideas and opinions except from those who she's closest to. Nevertheless, she strives to be kind, gentle and sensitive in her dealings with others. Resorting to anger or taking insult is a sign of a weak mind.

Being the eldest child means shouldering a good portion of responsibility, something Nyx has come to accept and even embrace at times. She's a very hard worker who does not allow obstacles to get in the way of performing her duties. In truth she doesn't usually give herself enough credit, seeing any accomplishments simply as the natural fulfillment of her obligations to her clan.

Nyx is a very 'live and let live' kind of person. While not full of charm in the traditional sense, she goes out of her way to be polite. She has a very zen-like attitude to everything. She believes in doing one's best and never minding the results; an outlook that has a tendency to confound people at times. To her it's simple; if things work out, it's very nice. If, in spite of everything, they do not, it's very nice. In her opinion you can laugh or you can cry, it doesn't matter what you do but she personally would prefer to laugh. And meanwhile continue to do her best. For no reason at all. She doesn't attach a purpose to it.

Voice

Her voice has a quiet, soft quality to it, as if she’s not at all accustomed to having to raise it. It's even in tone and subtle with inflection. Raising her voice in anger is rare for her and not something she ever does lightly.

Religious Views

Nyx comes from a tribe that holds the utmost regard for the Twelve and pays their respect to Menphina the Lover, and Goddess of the Moon. Like her mother and grandmother before her, Nyx follows this tradition and believes that many things, like love and a hunter's eye, are stronger in the moonlight.

Her mother, being a conjurer, has instilled the respect for the Elementals in her children. In the Twelveswood, the Elementals' will is law. Nyx has a deep-rooted, abiding respect for nature and the elements that borders on the religious.

Combat

When pressed into combat, Nyx suddenly stops being so easy to overlook. She's deadly with a set of daggers, her attacks swift and acrobatic as she lets her Miqo'te reflexes take over. She's cool to the point of detached, rarely letting a fight become personal for her. She's been trained that anger and passion have no place in a fight and it is one of few places she will empty her mind and allow her instincts to take over.

She follows a simple credo: "The accomplished man uses the sword but does not kill others. He uses the sword and gives others life. When it is necessary to kill, he kills. When it is necessary to give life, he gives life. When killing, he kills in complete concentration; when giving life he gives life in complete concentration. Without looking at right and wrong he is able to see right and wrong; without attempting to discriminate, he is able to discriminate well."

Notes from her Commonplace Book

"There is only one life; therefore, it is perfect"

"If the ocean can calm itself, so can you. We are both salt water mixed with air."

"Wealth? Is it rarity that warrants value? If so, of greater value than coin and trinkets are trust, truth and integrity. Of greater value still, forgiveness. Of greatest value among them all, an outstretched hand."
