History
Okiku, who had been thrown in a well, was rescued by a passing circus. She had no memory of how or why she was in the well, only that she'd been forcibly pushed into it. Her memory loss was the result of a head injury , and multiple cases of loss of consciousness. She was remedied by a doctor who was also a tight rope walker for the circus. The Elezen's name was Francis, and he was the reason Okiku was alive. He bargained with the owner of the Circus to allow Okiku to stay, and in order to keep her around long her, taught her the art of tight rope and slack line walking. Ki adapted well to the former and often performed with Francis on stage. He became an older brother to her, and she a sister to him. Okiku was very obviously talented, and became a true member of the circus quite quickly. Despite her memory loss she adapted quite well, and was quick to make friends with her kindness and loving, adorable nature. Her first friend in the circus was Relinina Stow, and the two would eventually develop a strange affection for each other akin to love. Ki never could recall her past, and something deep in the back of her mind told her it was best not to. However, in the midst of one of her performances a small flash back came to her, and she fell from the tight rope, to the floor below. This resulted in an injury that, had it not been for Francis, would have prevented her from ever walking properly again. Francis was a genius, however, whose talents were wasted in a circus. He developed a device that, when places in and around Okiku's spine, would allow her to bend normally again, and eve walk the ropes. His hopes were that the device could eventually be surgically removed and Ki could walk with out it's help. This would take time. After this fall, Okiku would often have nightmare about the memory, though she never told any one this. When Ki was 14, her circus traveled to Eorzea, coming to rest outside of Gridania. Their plan had been to stay for a couple months, but it was during these months that the Calamity would occur, resulting in the end of the circus. Okiku managed to find Francis and stay by his side. The two kept to traveling and performing when they needed money. It was during these travels that Okiku met Sami, and the two quickly became friends. However, shortly after Francis became ill, and died swiftly with no apparent reason. Thus Okiku was left all alone, she stuck close to Sami' side and the two made a home for each other in Camp Drybone. From here time moved slowly. Okiku took up the art of lace work, which she became quite proficient at.
The girls' lives continued for several years with out incident. As Ki grew older she began to frequent the streets of Ishgard, and started performing more , while Sami took delving further into her research. The two however kept in contestant contact. It was in Ishgard, that Okiku met an interesting Miqo'te by the name of Ainle Goldpaw, who, after a short discussion with her, invited her to join the 81st Foreign Levy of the Maelstrom. She accepted his offer, and brought Sami along with her to meet them formally and officially join them. Though a newcomer to their ranks, Okiku hopes to achieve much with them and it is here that her story begins.
Personality
Okiku is very gentle and extremely formal. That being said, it's hard to catch her with out a smile on her face. The simplest of things make her smile, a butterfly on a flower, the sea breeze, a certain Miqo'te and her damn ghosts. She reasonably polite and seems very unbiased about most things, the things she is heated on bring a colorful range of emotions to her often calm features. To many close to her she may seem quite innocent, though this is really because she dose not know how to handle flirtatiousness. Ki is still quite young at heart, having no memories she really only see's herself as a ten year old sometimes. This leads to her taking a childish stance on thing's she really cares about. She often feel's disconnected from others, her biggest fear being that she will never matter to any one, and as a result she give's of an aura (no pun intended) of loneliness. She love's making friends and meeting new people but she has a tough time letting people in. Despite all this, she's always happy and hardly ever let's thing's get her down. She's by no means stand offish, and occasionally, when comfortable, may crack a joke or be flirty. The darker sides of Ki's personality are only seen under the right circumstances or by the right people. Her fear of being alone, of never being important to those she cares so much about, of all ways being in the back ground. Her insecurities, she hates her scales, she's small and fear's shell always be seen as a child. And most of all, the weight she bares from the death of her loved ones, her never ending pain from the blame she feel's for their death's. Yet, for those few people who do see these sides of her, might also see her light, and the thing's that make her beautiful. Her smile, she's always smiling, for those around her and for herself. Her strength and loyalty to those she loves. The gentleness of her voice, and how much she genuinely care's about those around her.
Relationships
Ki's first friend after the Calamity , Sami and Ki met each other while both in a time of need and quickly hit it off. The two shared a fire like personality and were drawn to each other because of this. Over time Ki began to understand her feelings for Sami were more than that of feelings of friendship, and she found herself falling for the Miqo'te. However out of respect for her friend who obviously did not share the feelings, she quickly locked them away were the eventually diminished into a small flame but never truly disappeared. Now the two find themselves as close as two friend can get, trusting their lives to each other.
The Elezen who saved Okiku from the well quickly became a brother like figure and parent at the same time. As both a performer and doctor of the circus she would eventually perform at, he was the one who healed her injuries, and brought her to love tight rope walking so much. 10 years older than her, Francis brought wisdom to Okiku's life. He introduced her to painting, and tinkering along side her many other hobbies. Though she never told him, Francis became the person Okiku would perform for time after time on stage. After a fall from the ropes that would have been the end of Shiki's career, he placed a small mechanism that would allow her to bend her back properly again. He believed that, in due time, he would be able to remove the device and she would no longer need it. However , he fell ill shortly after the Calamity, and 12 year old Okiku could do nothing but watch her dearest friend wither away and die.
The hyuran performer was captivated by Okiku the moment she was pulled from the well, being the one to first find Okiku in it. Five years older than Okiku, Relinina was careful to admit her affection for Okiku. However, Okiku, though young, found herself equality captivated by Relinia, and three years after meeting the two fell into a relationship. The two shared a short, whirl wind romance that never should have happened, and ended with Relinia's death in the Calamity. Despite the fact their relationship was riddled with flaws, Okiku still thinks fondly of Relinia, but understands that it would have never worked.
The Elezen perplexes Ki to no end. While the Au Ra has slowly begun to see her as a mother-like figure, she also seems to put Ki in embarrassing spots. In no way does Okiku resent Senelle for this, though, and on a good night, you might catch Ki admitting that she enjoys the woman's banter and seemingly endless wisdom.
Okiku met the Keeper at a dance hosted by their shared company. Lynn's flirtatious and mischievous attitude has both perplexed the Au Ra and piqued her interest in him. She finds him to be absolutely charming, and in recent day's has found herself feeling even closer to him. She even has begun to feel calm and serene in his presence, something that she deeply enjoys.

Other Notes
Religion
Ki has never really been religious due to the fact she was never exposed to it until late in life. She dose believe in an after life but worships no deity. None the less she respects the religions of others.
Quirks
- Ki has a fascination with dancing, seeing as how she's performer. That being said, dancing is her weak point in her performance abilities. When feeling down, she could often be seen dancing alone, sometimes to no music, in an entirely clumsy and uncoordinated way. More often than not she bumps into things while doing this, she bruises quite easily.
- While not the most talented singer in all the realm, Ki enjoys humming to herself from time to time and is quite good at it. She can be found doing this while cooking/tinkering/bathing and dose not mind others listening to her. She often likes to make up languages while she sings, believing it makes her sound better.
- When bored, Okiku is likely to burst into dance. It's best not to question it.
- She likes to paint rainbows on her wrists and ankles. Again, it best left unquestioned.
Notable Quotes
- "War only exists because there is always some one to fight."
- "I've seen men's passions destroy them, I've watched them become some one else in the name of something they love. I will not fall like them."
- "Tikki, transorme mwah!"
- "For it is her that I've run the lines of insanity for, and I shall do so again if need be."
- "It is selfish to die for some one else."
Rumours
Okiku has no real or threatening rumors floating around her. She's quite careful and performs under the stage name "The Lonely Ghost."
Known Haunts
You might have run into or otherwise know Ki from:
- Ishgard
- The Beaches in Mist
- The Golden Saucer (When she dose perform, it's usually here)
- Camp Drybone
OOC Inspirations
Ki is based off of the old Japanese folk tale , Bancho Sarayashiki, a story about a girl thrown down a well because she refused to marry the lord of the manor she was a servant at. This Okiku died and became a ghost and was tormented in the afterlife. Thus, I wrote MY Okiku to be the Okiku who lived. The Okiku who, despite her past, moves on from such things and makes something of herself. Ki should be happy, find some one to love, and do what SHE want to do, not what other's think she should.
