Backstory

Pamu was born and raised in the Shroud and took up the study of conjury. On the nameday that marked her coming-of-age, her mother gifted her an ornate metal shield, a heirloom of their line that, though impeccably detailed, bore no outward evidence to support the family legend claiming it to be an enchanted holy relic. The honor of possessing this sacred item nevertheless humbled her, and she forsook conjury to join the Order of the Twin Adder and learn sword-and-board combat instead. This decision caused a schism between her and her father, a former Hearer who wished to see his daughter pursue his art. To assuage him, she named her sword after him, to mirror the matriarchical family name which her shield bore.

In a tragically poetic turn of events, her sword was shattered in battle the same day her father perished of natural causes. Taking this as an omen, Pamu placed the pieces of the sword in the casket of the Miqo'te it shared a name with and vowed to never again wield a sword in battle. The emotion behind this oath awakened something within her shield, and the fabled enchantment was revealed to be more than just a fable. Whenever Pamu wielded the magic shield thereafter, it shimmered with aetheric energy and became strong enough that even the most fearsome blow could not dent it. This power unfortunately does not extend to its wielder, so Pamu's fighting style centers around parries and deflections out of necessity. After twenty years of fighting - including at such storied battles as Carteneau - Pamu has retired from the Serpents and is beginning to teach her shield-focused combat style to anyone who wishes to learn.

Competencies

Pamu is, obviously, a master of the shield-based martial art she pioneered. She excels at protecting herself in battle, and her endurance is such that opponents' strength tends to flag before they can even manage to touch her. In both a physical and social sense, Pamu is supremely patient, unmoved by attempts to provoke or embarrass her.

Incompetencies

Without the Order of the Twin Adder's rigorous discipline, Pamu has lapsed back into the nocturnal sleeping schedule common to the Keepers of the Moon, a habit she is doing her best to break for the convenience of her prospective students. She is also ill-adjusted to Ul'dah's harsh sunlight. Though well-practiced in deflecting blows aimed at herself, Pamu's ability to protect others at the same time is somewhat limited, a failing which led to a fellow Serpent recruit receiving a wound which ended his military career. This event still haunts Pamu.
