Please note: Been away for a bit, so I need to update a little. Basic info is the same, however. Just not as much of a Nervous Nellie she once was.

Character

General

R'tashana is uncomfortable around most people. She is most at ease around Elezen and Lalafell. Roegadyn she is indifferent to. She is very uncomfortable around other Miqo'te. She can tolerate Hyuran females, but Hyuran males are a different matter. Depending on their appearance, she might slink away and try to remain unnoticed, flee in panic, or go into a catatonic state.
R'tashana is usually found wandering the Pearl Lane district of Ul’dah, or near the chocobo porter. She occasionally makes her way up to The Quicksand when she has some spare coin, and occasionally is seen outside the city gates, most notably Scorpion Crossing or Black Brush Station. She gives the Coffer and Coffin a wide berth whenever heading out to Black Bush Station.

Habits

Wears long-sleeved shirts, keeps her right arm covered to the wrist as much as possible to cover the slave brand located there
Tends to lose her temper quicker than she should, though she is working on it

Belongings

An old bow she found abandoned outside the gates of Ul'dah
A rusty needle a more experienced weaver discarded
A worn pair of bone hora she sneaked out of the pugilist guild
A set of Miqo'te Separates she traded for
A yukata that was a gift from Vaughn Antain

Appearance

R’tashana is most often seen wearing the worn, but clean and mended clothing of a male peasant.

Personality

She keeps to herself, and avoids direct contact with people whenever possible.

Combat

R'tashana prefers to use her fists when she is forced into a fight, but her preference is to avoid any confrontations. She also has some small skill with the bow, but she is more comfortable knocking a nose than nocking an arrow.

History/Timeline

Youth: Birth to age 7

When R’tashana Hhaig was only seven years old, the Nunh cast her and her mother out of the family. Though she repeatedly asked what they did, her mother would never answer. The pair took to wandering Eorzea, and eventually found employment with a traveling merchant caravan. After a few weeks, R’tashana woke up and discovered her mother had abandoned her, so she was now fully in the care of the Duskwight Elezen caravan master and his family. She did what she could to help out, and picked up some sewing skills from the other women.

Formative Years: Age 7 to age 15

Finally, after two years of assisting the chocobo keeper, she was put in charge of caring for the chocobos after the keeper’s unexplained disappearance since she was the only one who knew anything about them. Unfortunately, less than a month later, the Great Calamity came to Eorzea, and the entire caravan, including the chocobos she was in charge of, were sucked into a great void that opened in the ground while she was out getting water. So at the tender age of eleven, R’tashana made her way to the place she knew best, Ul’dah, where the caravan made frequent stops. There she quickly became another faceless child growing up in the Pearl Lane district, doing what she could to survive; mostly legal, but some illegal activities if she was in dire straits. She would occasionally sneak into the Pugilist Guild, and picked up enough skill to be able to fend off the unwanted advances from the men-folk. And she knew the streets of Ul’dah well enough to escape the ones who weren’t dissuaded by a solid punch to the nose. She mostly kept to herself, and only sought out assistance when she really needed it.

Young Adult: Age 15 to age 17

After four years of living this life, she decided to take a bold step and go outside the city to seek adventure. At age fifteen, she talked her way into joining an adventuring party, and steadily her confidence grew, and she also started to learn to trust others, and realized that she could depend on the other party members to have her back. Two years was a long time for an adventure party to remain intact, but the group was very successful, and saw no need to break apart. While with this group she picked up some skill with a bow. However, she never could understand the magics of healing.

After a particularly successful treasure hunt, the party was ambushed by Hyuran bandits on their way back to the Coffer and Coffin in Central Thanalan to divide the treasure, and only her and the conjurer survived. The two women were victimized by the bandits, and were taken, along with the substantial loot, to Hyuran slavers who was offering high prices for females. The two women were both sold, and were used primarily as servants to the slavers and any special guests who showed up. Occasionally they were used for sex, but mostly the slavers already had enough females to handle that part. After about six months of this life, an Immortal Flames patrol happened by the camp, and after arresting the slavers who weren’t killed in the raid, the two women were brought back to Ul’dah where they were taken care of and healed. The Hyuran conjurer left as soon as she was able, and R’tashana found herself alone once more.

Age 18 to Pre-game

A year later, at the age of eighteen and not wanting to remain in the city, she again struck out in hopes of finding a new adventuring party. What she found instead was a charismatic Miqo’te named Ra’tokura Nunh (perhaps find a person willing to play this part and change name accordingly?), who took her into his family. Once again, she thrived, her confidence returning. It wasn’t long before the young woman was Ra’tokura’s favorite, as her mysterious past (which she refused to talk about) and unrefined demeanor enraptured him. The other women, jealous at being relegated to second class behind Ra’tashana, decided to find out more about this girl. When they discovered the incident with her adventuring party, where she was victimized by the bandits and made a slave, they located one of the bandits and paid him off to “accidentally” cross paths with her. Upon seeing him, she shut down.

After telling Ra’tokura the story about how she knew the man, and what had happened to her, he told her to leave, as he would not have damaged goods in his family. Humiliated, she hung her head in shame and departed, not even bothering to take any of her belongings; she left with just the clothes on her back. The other women were smiling evilly as she walked out the door. She wouldn’t look at them, but she could feel the hate emanating from the group. Yet again, she found herself alone.

After that she just wandered aimlessly (or so she thought). After coming across a peasant passed-out from too much drink the night before, she stripped the clothing from him, and exchanged it with her own dress, which was now filthy and tattered. “What will this poor soul think when he wakes up, finding himself wearing what was once a beautiful dress?” She laughed a hollow laugh, and then thanked him for the clothing and continued on. Six months later, after wandering around Eorzea in a daze, she found herself once again staring up at the walls of Ul‘dah. “What is it with this place that keeps drawing me back to it? Why can’t I escape this city? Is my destiny tied somehow to it? Or is it my ultimate demise the city seeks?”

An outcast for from her birth family for reasons she never knew, the caravan and her beloved chocobos swept away in the Great Calamity, her adventuring party members dead or gone, a pariah to the second family she had once belonged to, she let out a sigh and entered the city gate. She thought she heard the gate guard say “Welcome back, little cat.” But she just walked past and made her way down to the Pearl Lane area, to see if any of her previous hiding places were still intact. After finding one that hadn’t been discovered or claimed, she crawled into the cubby hole, curled up and fell into a deep sleep. R’tashana’s future and her past had once again collided. This time she was sure that the city of Ul ‘dah would finally claim her, and she would become yet another poor soul cast into the pit along with all the other dregs once her life ended.

In-game History

One day while R'tashana was trying to assist the chocobo keeper at Scorpion Crossing (and getting nowhere), a Duskwight stranger approached her. Being extremely uneasy around people she didn't know, she spoke with him, but always maintained a distance so she could take flight if needed. A new pair of shoes convinced her that this person, who introduced himself as Jaques Guillaume might be different.

A short time later, Jaques and a Duskwight female Chiane N'ardente found R'tashana in Pearl Lane, and even though she tried to cover her reasons for being there, the pair saw through this and offered to take her back to the Phoenix Rose, an establishment they run to help freed slaves. This is where she met Vaughn Antain, he gave her a beautiful Yukata to wear in place of her usual peasant clothing. After she was told that she had her own room at the Phoenix Rose, she was escorted there and fell into a deep sleep. This was the first time she had slept in a real bed since she couldn't even remember.

In a recent Phoenix Rose rescue mission with Sword & Rose Order to free merchants from a group of bandits, R'tashana somehow was able to be present. While she wasn't invited, she also wasn't sent away. She thought this would be a good way to help earn her keep at the Phoenix Rose. She was very unsure of herself, but the presence of Jaques and Vaughn bolstered her courage. After the attack on the kidnappers began, her task was simple: untie the merchants while the rest engaged the bandits. However, when one of the slavers approached her, she completely froze, and cowered back in fear of the large man, afraid she would be once again subjected to the life of a slave. The bandit seemed confused by this, and left her to assist his fellows. After the battle was over, R’Tashana dejectedly made her way over and began freeing the captives. She apologized to Jaques for freezing in the moment, and promised not to let it happen again. The gear she used for the engagement was returned to the Rose armory, and she then went back up to her room and crawled into bed, trying hard and failing miserably to control her tears at letting the group down.
