GENERAL INTRODUCTION

Renoix Carrilmont is a former fully-fledged knight of House Dureindaire and current adventurer. Living a humble life of solitude while traveling through Eorzea, Renoix simply desires to use his skills to help those who can't help themselves. Altruistic at heart, Renoix continues to act as any proper knight of Ishgard - his manner of refined grace backed up by his experience on the battlefield make him a stalwart adventurer in his own right. Kind, wise, and above all humble, Renoix seeks a modest life of adventure with those he deems as friends.

USUAL APPEARANCE

Renoix is tall like most of his kin and though one might assume this height would cause him to be a bit clumsy, Renoix manages to move about with a practiced grace. His bright blonde hair is often swept back neatly, obscuring no part of his gaunt, sharp facial features. His eyes are a steely grey, a feature he inherited from his father, while the rest of his pronounced, thin features come mostly from his mother's side. All in all, Renoix was considered quite handsome back when he served under the banner of House Durendaire and though he may have aged a bit since those glory days he still retains much of his youthful look - were he of higher birth, it would be easy to assume he would be sent more than his fair share of marriage proposals.

When he's within Ishgard, Renoix often dons the garb of the regular citizens. Long, elegant coats wrapped with a variety of exotic animal furs to help stave off the cold. Dark leather boots are his go to choice for footwear within the overbearing snow of the Holy See but beyond this Renoix doesn't accessorize much beyond an occasional hat if the snowfall is truly heavy. When traveling, Renoix wears a custom-made suit of plate and mail styled with various Hallonic symbols. A rather sturdy piece of gear, the armor has seen Renoix through some sticky situations in his past travels outside of the Holy See and thus the former knight goes out of his way to take care of it. Considering the set to be one of his most prized possessions (not to mention the fact it took quite a bit of saving up to procure it) Renoix often uses it for adventuring within the different city-states of Eorzea, not thinking it proper to use his old set of knightly mail (Which is proudly stored at the Carrilmont household, though the armor holds naught but painful memories to the former knight.) Renoix is a simple man and beyond this his appearance rarely changes, the man taking a small comfort in the routine of donning his armor for whatever work lies ahead.

PERSONALITY

L I K E S

Camaraderie. There's a bond forged between those who fight and die together and though Renoix doesn't particularly miss the fighting and dying part, he does miss the feeling of kinship he had with those who served alongside him in the Dragonsong War.
Fine Dining. The Carrilmont family didn't want for much and as a result young Renoix often indulged in various exotic cuisines from a young age, growing accustomed to a finer tier of food. It's still a guilty pleasure of his.
Arms and Armor. The sound a lance makes as it swooshes through the air, the subtle ringing of a finely-crafted chainmail suit - Renoix enjoys discussing the finer points of weapon play whether in terms of practical use or the actual process of creating them.

D I S L I K E S

Dravanians. Ask any Ishgardian if they like Dravanians and plenty of them would say no. A thousand-year holy war does little to improve relations and despite the changing (and admittedly peaceful) relations between the two groups Renoix finds it hard to simply forgive and forget the beasts he fought for years under the guise of administering Halone's justice.
Water. A childhood accident involving a frozen lake has gifted Renoix with a lifelong fear of water. Tends to avoid it if he can. Rain doesn't count, thankfully. Bathing either.
Subtlety. Renoix much prefers when the people he speaks to are up front and honest about their opinions or thoughts. He has little patience for tricks and often won't bother to try and decipher the words of those who skirt around a subject. Want to kill him? Stab him, don't poison his drink.

H O B B I E S

Whittling. A habit Renoix picked up from Ser Rontou back when he was freshly knighted. Able to carve a variety of different beasts and people out of a small block of wood. Tried carving a dragon's head once, before realizing how heretical it was. Tossed it into a nearby hearth before anyone saw. Renoix has recently begun developing a budding interest in carpentry due to his hobby but lacks the time to pursue it.
Dancing. Taught by his mother. ("What kind of knight doesn't know how to properly dance with a lady?!") Perfectly capable of dancing in a traditional Ishgardian style and though he's not likely to admit it he finds the refinement of the activity enjoyable. Sometimes practices the steps in private to avoid getting rusty.

S T R E N G T H S

Experienced in Combat. Renoix has seen his fair share of blood and though it haunts him in the privacy of his chambers it also enables him to respond to any threats in a calm, measured way. Having won his knighthood in a grand tourney, Renoix is an exceptionally skilled swordsman and paired with his battlefield experience the former knight makes a challenging opponent for most.
Just. Renoix doesn't often second guess himself and likes to think he makes his decisions based on a combination of logic and emotion. Renoix makes every decision with an admirable finality that denotes he truly believes in the causes he champions. Of course, no man is infallible but Renoix's moral compass is usually pointed in the right direction and he believes himself a better person for it.

W E A K N E S S E S

Haunted. The shrill sound of claw ripping through metal, the agonizing screams of a friend boiling in his suit of mail courtesy of dragonfire, frantic bloodied combat with no end on a darkened battlefield - Renoix is often haunted by the memories of his time during the Dragonsong War and believes himself to be a coward for it. Often keeps his emotions bubbled up inside, unable to truly express them to anyone. His inability to handle these feelings was the driving force behind his decision to step down from service to House Durendaire.
Angry Drunk. Another trait inherited from his father. When inebriated, Renoix often speaks bitterly about his time as a knight and generally becomes a cynical, pessimistic jerk to anyone within range he deems to be deserving of it. Deeply ashamed of this behavior, the former knight has been attempting to limit himself when it comes to drinking, to various levels of success.

M O T I V A T I O N S

Closure. Faced with the reality that everything he had fought for was based on a lie, Renoix is truly considering if any of things he did during those dark years was truly in service to Halone or not. Can a war based on a lie still be just? The answers the former knight seeks may not be found easily, but it's something he pursues regardless. Being an adventurer and making things right, no matter how small, seems to be a good place to start.
Practical Need. Despite his own inner turmoil, Renoix is the only child of the Carrilmont family and thus faces the responsibility of caring for his aging parents. No longer serving as a knight and with no real skills beyond the use of his blade, adventuring is both an escape from his home and a financial opportunity for the Carrilmont family.
Repentance. Renoix wasn't exactly a good person in his younger years. Older and wiser, Renoix has made a solid effort to track down those he has wronged in the past in an effort to make amends for his foolish actions. Some seem ready to forgive him, some are simply dead, and some simply want revenge..

FAMILY
Uraut Carrilmont, father. ( )
"Keep practicing and you might be as good as me in my prime. Hreh-hreh."
Ser Uraut Carrilmont earned his knighthood on the battlefield (a fact he's always quick to remind his son) and despite his age carries on as if he was still a young man. A flawed, but well meaning father, he currently works as one of many stewards to House Durendaire, his fighting days long gone. Has issues controlling his drinking, though never gets violent. Rather disturbed by the sudden shift in Ishgardian politics - definitely old fashioned. Mostly goes out drinking nowadays with his old friends and occasionally gets into a brawl. An endless source of annoyance for his wife. Renoix insists he's stuck back in his glory days though has a great deal of respect for what his father accomplished all that time ago.
Ochette Carrilmont, mother. ( )
"Stand up straight. You want to impress that Evianne girl, don't you?"
Ochette Viveux met Uraut Carrilmont when she was serving as a Chirurgeon in the same camp as him. Tending to the proud knight's wounds from a small-scale heretic attack, the charming knight had an effect on her and soon enough they were involved romantically. Eventually quitting her life on the front lines for a cozier (and better paying) job within Ishgard proper, it was only a matter of time before she became pregnant with Renoix, the pair's only child. Pampering the boy when he was young, Ochette eventually (and reluctantly) gave her blessing for her only son to leave, having armed him with important knowledge in regards to the opposite sex, ballroom dancing, and fanciful clothing. Nowadays, she routinely helps understaffed hospices while trying to keep her husband out of a cell. Wishes her son would write her more. Also terrified of cats.

RUMORS

N P C

Ask around, who knows what you might hear!

◢ Common Rumors - Some light questioning should uncover these.
"Aye, I remember 'em. Musta' been a decade by now, but y'don't forget a tourney win like that. Made a fool of that poor squire. Had 'em cryin' and snivelin' in front of th'whole crowd. Ain't very knightly, if y'ask me. Reckon y'dont rightly recover from somethin' as shameful as that. Doubt the poor squire ever became a knight after that type of debacle."
"Carrilmont? Was a bit of a prick, pardon me language. Walked around the camp like he was some sorta' highborn lord. Cold an' the dravanians sorted him out real quick. S'far as I know, he turned out well enough."
◢ Uncommon Rumors - Might take a bit more digging!
"Ser Carrilmont? Aye, he's here, your lordship. I'll assemble the knights for your inspection. Thank you, inquisitor Leveret."
"Real religious one, he is. Used to lead us all in a prayer before a mission. You'd think he was a priest the way he used to preach. We were all pretty devout, but he was on the next tier. Not a bad thing, mind you - certainly calmed my nerves."
"Couple of us were tasked with sorting out some sort of old mill the heretics were using to keep an eye on the roads. Carrilmont was in charge for that one. Had us surround the house and torch it. Reckon I won't forget the sound of those panicked screams in the night. Couple of 'em managed to run out the front door before the flames spread enough, and Carrilmont was standing there waiting with that damned sword of his. Cut 'em all down, holdin' weapons or no. When he turned back to us, those cold grey eyes reflectin' the fire, I felt sick. We all knew it was our duty, but it didn't feel like it. None of us said anything and we went back to the garrison a bunch of heroes. Fury forgive us."
◢ Rare Rumors - Hidden beneath more than a few layers.
"Was a pretty good ambush, for a bunch of heretics and Dravanians. They knew which roads we were taking, which detachments had less protection, where all the good cargo was. Frankly, it was a slaughter and I thank the Fury for seeing me out of that bloodbath. Everyone thought Carrilmont was among the corpses but a couple of days later he comes limpin' into camp like he got lost on the way to take a piss or something. Fury must've looked out for him that day like she looked out for me. He wasn't the same after that mess - none of us were, really. That fire in his eyes was gone. Replaced with somethin' angry and disgusting. Barely spoke to me after that, and we were good friends. Haven't seen 'em in years. Hey, you best be payin' for these drinks. Why're you diggin' up the past, anyways? Got some sort of personal vendetta against 'em or something?"

OOC INFORMATION

Player Note
Hi! I usually go by Row online and right now Renoix is my only character, so feel free to shoot me a message or something if you'd be interested in some RP or dungeon running!
RP Limits
Favorites I tend to enjoy anything ranging from slice-of-life stuff to more plot heavy storylines. Renoix is a character based around the shady grey areas / horrors that happen during war and as such I tend to adore scenes that involve that in some way, whether it be a proper battle or simply a discussion on the subject. Combat is always fun as well! Finally, interesting character interactions are probably my favorite thing.
Disliked I'm not really a fan of excessively silly plots and stuff. I definitely enjoy a bit of pseudo-IC messing about every so often but more often than not I like my RP to be a tad serious. Light-hearted stuff is still loved, though! I also enjoy most of the RP I partake in to be lore abiding, but I don't expect anyone to have perfect knowledge of it or anything. As long as you're not an elder-god-primal-emperor-of-garlemald-warrior-of-light I'll be happy!

CHARACTER TIDBITS

Potential Plot Hooks
A few basic ideas on how our characters could meet! Always open to suggestions.
Your character and Renoix find themselves working together to complete some sort of adventuring job. Pretty simple, though it can go in a large variety of directions. A quick starting point!
Your character and Renoix knew one another a long time ago and through chance, or a predetermined meeting, they meet up and catch up on old times. This hook would be good for anyone who wants to intertwine their backstory with his!
Renoix hires your character for some sort of covert job, whether it's spying on someone suspicious or uncovering some information. Probably works best with the 'Renoix searching for his old comrades' story, but it can really be changed to fit anything. Perfect for thief / investigator types!
