History
Rikard, born Rickard Timothy Pierce, came into the world on the 1st Sun of the 5th Umbral Moon, year 1547 of the Sixth Astral Era. Born to Timothy and Caylth Pierce of Limsa Lominsa, the child lived in the surrounding area of La Noscea for the majority of his childhood. Rikard was noted to be a generally well behaved child, with an odd tendency to get himself injured by following his sense of curiosity. Though nothing serious ever happened to him, it was still a common occurrence for the child to be on crutches.
Timothy Pierce, Rikard's father, picked up on his sons natural curiosity, and began showing him the inner workings of his own profession, that of plumbing. Rikard's father had a very strong passion for his work on various bathtubs, showers, running water taps, and things of similar nature, and Rikard inherited that with flying colors. Originally brought to jobs for his small hands to get into tighter places, Rikard began running independently of his father when there were too many work orders in.
Around the time of his fourteenth nameday, Rikard began befriending a dockhand girl named Edine Reeve, who he saw constantly while performing favors or work for the many traders who docked at Limsa Lominsa. Rikard and Edine grew rather close rather quickly, and became inseparable. It was clear to both of Rikard's parents that he seemed to begin slacking on many of his day jobs in order to make time for Edine, and noted the girl as a bad influence on their son. Though they never said anything, the instant sour expression on their faces anytime the girl was mentioned told Rikard what his parents were thinking.
A year later, Rikard's mother passed away from a heart attack. The family was able to handle the death rather well as a whole, but the distance between Rikard and his father began to grow, without Caylth to hold them together. Rikard began to not respond to his father's requests for help on the job, harming the reputation of his father's services rather quickly.
Two years later, and it became aware to Edine that she was pregnant, with Riakrd as the only one able to be the father. While Rikard was still a hardworking man, and able to provide for a child if he spent more time working and less time with Edine, his beloved was the exact opposite, opting to spend her time and money on liquor and clothing for herself, leaving Rikard to pay for any food and other necessities they would need.
With Rikard lacking the courage to speak to his beloved about her myriad of financial issues, he gave the offer to take his beloved and soon to be born child to Ul'dah, with the promise that his talents could be of better use in a bustling city, than in the grassy fields of La Noscea. Edine reluctantly agreed, and in three moons time, they would make their way to Ul'dah. Meanwhile, his father disliked the choice heavily, and seemed to sever ties with his son. Little to no communication was passed between the two for the next few years.
Three moons soon passed, and the couple made their way to Ul'dah with little hassle, and enough gil to purchase a small home for them to live. Rikard's talents were quickly put to use, and with the experience gained, he managed to fib his way onto working maintenance on the airships going to and from Ul'dah. Between his plumbing and airship work, Rikard easily made enough money to support him, Edine, and his newborn daughter Caylth, named in honor of his mother. Seven years passed, though, a lot of Rikard's work seemed to dry up, and Edine's bills rose higher and higher.
His child, though, named Caylth Reeve Pierce, was the only thing keeping the union between Rikard and Edine together. The girl brightened up his day like no tomorrow, and it was clear he would work as hard as he had to to provide for his little girl. Edine however, thought opposite, and quickly began spending funds that Rikard gave her for family items on her own belongings, that quickly ran the family into debt. With the amount of work Rikard would have to do to clear the both of their names, the soon left the city and took up residence in Eastern Thanalan.
With Rikard's talents seemingly useless, he began to sell himself as a bounty hunter. He used his knowledge to put together a crude rifle out of spare parts, and used that to serve as his trusty weapon. He also wasn't defenseless without it, either, Rikard seemed to get by on hand-to-hand combat rather well from many incidents in his childhood.
When the Calamity struck, Rikard and his family remained fortunately untouched from most of the horrors. However, in the year 1576, Edine grew so desperate to live her previous life, that she smuggled Caylth out of the house when Rikard was on a job, aiming to sell her to a small slavery ring. Rikard returned, using his skills that he picked up on via bounty hunting to track down where Edine had taken their then ten year old child, and managed to pick up on the trail rather quickly. He soon reached the slaver's camp, and scouted from afar. He spotted his wife leaving, and his daughter in a cage, with many men surrounding her, aiming to pay whatever it took to take Caylth home with them.
Rikard approached the scene as a potential buyer, though, was easily spotted out by Caylth, who was promptly shushed by her father as he remained undercover. He attempted to plea with the merchant that ended up walking away with the girl in chains, though, he wouldn't budge. Rikard focused his efforts on tracking this merchant, and that he did. He soon found himself back at Ul'dah, and spotted the house and room that his daughter was kept in. After spotted for any entryways, he found none, and watched the window from afar for many suns. After witnessing many things happen to his daughter, on the fifth night he waited, he ended up shooting a bullet through the window, aiming to put put poor Caylth out of the amount of misery she was in. He landed the shot, and the man quickly fled the scene, emotionally destroyed.
After returning to his home in Eastern Thanalan, he found that most of the belongings there were gone, and being taken somewhere thanks to Edine. Rikard once again put his tracking and people skills to work and found where she had moved. As Rikard entered the run-down shack, he was greeted by a new man who claimed to now be with Edine. Rikard didn't lay a finger on him, instead, moving to Edine rather quickly with a knife in hand, murdering her in revenge for the damage she had caused him and his daughter, and made a quick escape out the window.
Rikard moved back to Ul'dah, quickly aiming to change his name and get a new outlook on life. He opted to simply drop the "C" from his birthname, and changing his name fully to Rikard Caylth Pierce. With this, he set about on becoming a caravan guard for a Lalafell by the name of "Mister Vivu", to which he served for about a year on. After a sudden ambush on the caravan, Rikard was left to believe he was the only survivor, and was set out as a target for a bounty by Mister Vivu's ex-wife. He then went to Ul'dah, managing to keep any posters of himself off the wall, and blending in with plain sight as he opted to be a private investigator from now on, for a wish to not hurt and kill as many people as he had to on either of his previous violent jobs. He also began his purple-shirt trend, wearing it in honor of his daughter, for it was her favorite color.
Wandering the markets in Ul'dah, Rikard stumbled upon Kyara V'renth, a Keeper of the Moon Mi'qote whom was a part of the caravan run by Mister Vivu. The two caught up, and Kyara swore to him that she would help him clear his name. After Kyara returned to him, the two set out, quickly tracking down Misses Vivu, who seemed to be running her own slaver ring. Kyara sprung into action, though, blew their cover in the process, which landed them on a caravan headed to a bandit camp in Coerthas. The two managed to break free of their binds, though, Kyara was attacked from behind while tossing Rikard his rifle. Distracted, Rikard took two stab wounds to the chest, and fell off the caravan in the process.
He drug himself around for a few hours, stumbling upon a group resting near a lake. However, a Goobbue seemed to follow Rikard's trail of blood, and engaged the party. After some minor damages, the party was successful, and later revealed themselves to be from the Triumvirate, and was a search party answering Kyara's call for help. Thanks to Captain Rekun Elakha's search party, Rikard was brought back to House Valtyr, in order to search for Captain Askaa Altannasan. After confirming stories with those involved, Rikard was put in charge of pursuing Kyara's captors for the Triumvirate.
While waiting for Captain Altannasan to show himself, he engaged in a conversation with Lady M'elodie Valtyr herself, after speaking of a woman Rikard said he was working on a case for. Rikard began to explain his work, and was asked to serve under Ladty Zutsutsu's Intelligence ring, to which he gladly obliged.
Personality
Rikard seems to have a relatively down to earth personality, believing in doing things quickly rather than beating around the bush. He also seems to of maintained his childish sense of wonder, and still seems to have a fascination with plumbing. This leaves him in a very upbeat mood at times. He is also very respectful of most strangers he meets, and quickly turns to what seems like a crude, yet jolly old man around what he thinks are his friends.
