Rin'li Amai

β€œIt is the way one applies their knowledge that gives them power, not the knowledge itself.”

A Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te born within the borders of the erudite nation of Sharlayan, Rin'li is quiet and polite, seemingly fully dedicated to his practice and research of magic. With the isolationist policies of his homeland, it's only recently that the young Miqo'te has ventured into the outside world, instilling him with an even greater sense of wonderment and curiosity while at the same time knowing the need to remain neutral in the affairs of Eorzea.

General πŸ™˜

Alabaster skin and pale white hair streaked with black, Rin'li's visage is reminiscent to a star lit night sky with its contrasts of dark and pale light. His features are soft and almost androgynous but for the markings beneath his eyes that clearly define him as male. The only color beyond black and white are his large almond shaped eyes, one a brilliant emerald green, and the other a deep vibrant blue.

Clothing πŸ™˜

Rin'li is usually very well dressed, favoring more ornate and elegant clothing, though he makes do with more practical choices when out in the field. Spectacles are often perched upon his nose or pushed up to rest on top his head, ready to assist him should he need to take a closer look at his work, and brightly colored feathers commonly adorn his hair.

Voice πŸ™˜

Rin'li's voice is smooth and mellifluous, though not particularly masculine or feminine in tone.

Habits πŸ™˜

His gestures and movements are efficient and practical with the hint of elegance. Though he smiles often, and seems to always be polite and engaged with his company, there are times when he tends to get lost in his thoughts. His ears and tail give much of his inner feelings away, whether he wanted them to or not, and he has a bad habit of chewing his bottom lip when deep in contemplation.

Polite and courteous, Rin'li gets along well with most people. He can be engaging, even gregarious if he wishes, though at the heart of it he's often lost in his own ruminations for good or ill. Rin'li is forever asking questions, his curiosity knowing no bounds, and while he knows it can (and has) gotten him into trouble, the Miqo'te can't help but ask.

Childhood πŸ™˜

Rin'li was born the third son, an auspicious occurrence after the birth of his two older brothers, his mother and father never expecting to sire another male. His early years were spent doted upon, a bright and vivacious child Rin'li charmed his family with a quick wit and a penchant for mischief, though he always seemed to escape trouble without so much as a ruffle of the fur on his tail. He attended the Studium from a young age, as even as a child Rin'li's affinity for magic was evident.

Teenage πŸ™˜

The young Keeper grew up always following in the shadows of his brothers, the three nearly inseparable, Rin'li constantly looking up to them hoping to one day be able to be able to match them in their abilities with magic; the twins for their part accommodated their little brother, taking him under their wing when they could. Rin'li's young life and adolescence was sheltered and comfortable, his only worries being to keep up with his studies, but he would hear talk of the troubles outside of Sharlayan's borders, and the possibility of the Colony in the Dravanian Hinterlands being abandoned outright should Garlemald continue its aggressive actions in Eorzea.

In his youngest days, the news from outside world concerned him little, it wasn't until he grew into his teenage years that he became more interested in what was happening beyond the borders of his homeland. He became a voracious reader of antiquities; Allag, Mhach and Amdapor were Rin'li's obsessions, the young Miqo'te finding every book and tome he could on their sordid histories. With this he delved deeper into his own studies of magic, and with his natural inclinations for the arcane arts, proved to be an outstanding student.

When he was on the cusp of adulthood, Rin'li longed to go the abandoned Sharlayan colony in Eorzea, hoping to recover what had been lost when the exodus had been instated by the Forum. Tales of the wonders the Great Gubal library held fascinated the Miqo'te, Rin'li wanting nothing more to wander its halls. There was too the worry of what the Empire or any other thieves and scavengers might pick from the ruins, knowledge that should never be left outside of Sharlayan hands.

Adult πŸ™˜

After coming of age, Rin'li remained with the Studium for a time, burying himself in his research and beginning to start his thesis on the possibility and probability of new spells and perhaps even new disciplines of magic, and unbeknownst to his professors, the idea of regaining what knowledge had been lost with the fall of the great Magi city-states. The Miqo'te began to experiment with combining what he'd learned from his magical studies, weaving aether into what he theorized could birth new spells, and all that he'd gathered from the history of magocracies of the past. His first breakthrough came in the form of using the weave of magic to suspend objects indefinitely aloft, Rin'li displaying his adeptness by lighting his library with a myriad of floating candelabras, and combining the spell with a ward of fire so as not to risk burning the books. His professors were impressed, and it gained him funding for his research with hopes that the bright young mind might one day advance that study of magic.

But when the opportunity arose for Rin'li to travel to Eorzea, at the risk of losing what might be years of work in his homeland, the pull of the unknown was too strong for the insatiably curious Miqo'te to resist. Packing as much of his library as he could, Rin'li made the move south from the Old World into the wild lands of Eorzea, leaving behind the comforts and familiarity of home. Both excited and a slight bit terrified, Rin'li comes to Eorzea to observe and learn with the hopes of gaining new knowledge that not even the Studium has locked away in its great libraries.
