Rin Naeuri is a young Au Ra from the Raen clan who has taken refuge from the destruction of Doma, with her mentor and 'older sister' Kasuga. While she seems to be a gentle, timid soul, much belies the surface. Rin takes up odd jobs, her first time with stable employment being a cook at the Sanctum's Song.

Basic Info

LIKES ■ "Beautiful" Things - Nearly everything has beauty for Rin, strange little things that no one would bother to notice. This is especially so for people, and Rin can't help but be captivated by certain parts of a person on occasions. ■ Nature - Nature is beautiful, and serene. Nothing is more wonderful than spending time near the water, or listening to the wind.

DISLIKES ■Being Vertically Inept - Having to ask people for help is embarrassing, especially when everyone is significantly taller than you are. ■ Prejudice - Being a target of mistrust due to being Au Ra, Rin tends to sympathize with those who are faced with similar prejudices. Being an utter hypocrite, she becomes very wary around unknown Xaela.

Appearance & Personality

Appearance

The first trait noticeable by the naked eye is her height, which often gets her mistaken as a child. Standing at roughly 4'9" (or 57.5 ilms), Rin is built petite yet strong. Perhaps she would be softer, but the years of living as a refugee and constantly running between Thanalan and La Noscea for her own personal whims have turned her frame lean and strong like her farmer-girl roots.

Rin's skintone is a deep tan, contrasted with pearly-white scales that extend in patches across her face and body, along with a pair of horns fanning away from her face. A pale scar stretches from the right side of her ribcage , down the right side, and trails slightly to her back. The scar is something she is self-conscious about, and avoids wearing revealing clothing that would display it openly.

Short blonde hair falls over her brow and around her face, contrasting with her skin. Her grey eyes are just as pale as her hair, with a rim of silver circling her irises. Although sweet, the girl's exotic appearance also gives her an unintended fierce look, especially when she's focused on a task. Her face relaxes when she is lost in her thoughts.

Rin also has a very long, and exceptionally expressive scaled tail. Though not as flexible (or soft) as a Miqo'te's, it often moves or twitches based on her feelings. The tip of her long, thin tail extends to halfway down her calves.

Personality

Unless Rin is comfortable in the situation she is in, you are most likely to find her absolutely quiet and seemingly shy. She tends to not speak in unfamiliar situations unless needed, and use her actions over words. Incredibly formal, she bows frequently in greetings and the slightest offenses.

Once one works past the initial shell, Rin happens to not only be able to be highly verbose, but also quite intelligent. Where she might seem outwardly simple in both appearance and demeanor, she nearly has the mind of an educated noble or a scholar. Nearly, as she has little knowledge of Eorzea or certain aspects of the world outside of Doma except for everything she's experienced in her arrival.

Rin thinks she's on good terms with her, considering she feels comfortable around her. ● Kagerou Kage - Being a fellow Raen, Rin can't get it around her head why this girl is so... zany. Simultaneously energetic and clueless, Rin gets overwhelmed around her. ● Quiet Mouse - The Roegadyn woman doesn't strike Rin as being terrifying with her height and musculature, having experienced Quiet's generosity and warmth firsthand. Bonus points with Rin for buying the Au Ra her first airship ticket. ● Rhia Eliha - The Keeper of the Moon who hired her to the Song, something about the woman's tone and her stature intimidates Rin. Though, unlike those that Rin's met with a similar way of carrying themselves, Rhia was kind enough to hire her. If the "kindness" was more for potential profit, that is. ● Sylveret Laquaint - An employee at the Sanctum's Song, Rin's only met him once. She feels sorry the Duskwright, unfamiliar with the racism that exists to his subtype of Elezen. ●Arik Nergui One of the first Xaela she's met that hasn't lived entirely up to the stereotypes ingrained into her head by her culture, Arik's a bit of a typical mercenary, but someone she doesn't mind the presence of. Not to mention, he's attached to Seren's side most of the time.

Rin's background is inspired by the oiran, courtesans who originated in the Edo period of Japan. While I have done plenty of readings, I do not claim to be historically accurate in Rin's presentation, nor claim any of this is within the Doman "canon". I simply found "the floating world" fascinating while I was researching a name.
