Sarantali Kha
[edit]
It should have been a different life for Sarantali; one of tending the lore from her family, learning the ways of their magic, and ensuring that her elder brother - the 32nd Sun of the Möngke-Kha - ascended to his responsibility easily as their father grew weak and could no longer lead. They would travel the circuits of trade as they'd done for generations upon generations; tending their herds and plying their trade as Onmyoudo. While in the past the system of Sun and Moon had been established to insure there was little warring between members of family for inheritance, Sarantali was content with her place. Magic came easy to her and not at all to her brother. The act of reading the stars... reading at all, came like riding to the Xaela. If only her elder brother, Narange, shared the same ambitions then all would have been well. The Möngke Kha are scattered now; only a few handfuls known having survived the passage into Eorzea. The chaos of betrayal and slaughter separated the family as they fled to the west; boats meant only to carry livestock and wealth were forced full with as many of the clan as could fit before setting sail in a haphazard departure. Many moons and many lives later, the Möngke-Kha finally arrived in Eorzea, and Now the 32nd Moon has a new duty: to find her Sun and reunited her people so that he may lead properly or to become the Sun, herself.
To call Sarantali "small" would be a vast understatement as the Xaela stands at least a head under the height of most women of her race. Regardless, she has strong legs from riding and a physique sculpted more by the daily labor of her tribe than not. Her hair is long, past her shoulders and henna'd pink to ostensibly match her eyes, contrasting with her blue-toned pale skin. When her back is bear one can see the two tattoos that she sports; two birds intertwined in a circle on her left shoulder, and an elegant script of her family's history in three lines on the left, right, and down her spine.
Almost universally Sarantali favors clothing best suited for a long wear; leathers and thicker fabrics with her sense of fashion appeased by the bright colors or intricate patterns of dye or embroidery on her garb.
Aspects That Stand Out:
Möngke Kha, the ancestor of Sarantali's lineage, took their family's predilection towards incorporating useful knowledge of other cultures as doctrine to inform his magic. Over time, this combination of shamanistic rituals, Doman tradition, and aetheric philosophy became a powerful esoteric cosmology which he taught to others. His followers became known as the Möngke-Kha after their ancestor and formed into clan led by their war leaders and their Onmyodo. Any who show a talent are encouraged to develop their own magical stylings using the basis taught by the family and adding bits of powerful magics and rituals that they encounter in the world. As a result the family's shaman are a remarkably eclectic bunch, bearing bits and pieces of practice from anything they've seen working and incorporating it into their own. Those members who don't show any talent with the arts are frequently either warriors or herders; the collection of knowledge over generations had led to the Möngke-Kha having rather excellent livestock that forms their main trade. As tradition dictates, titles are passed down from eldest child to eldest child in the main lineage with their leader known as the Sun of the Möngke-Kha. In order to discourage conflict, the second child is styled as the Moon and sworn from birth to defend their elder sibling. Any children passed this are styled as Stars and serve frequently as diplomats. The Sun of the Möngke-Kha leads the family into war, peace and seals negotiations, the Moon makes divinations, handles rituals, and keeps its secret lore, its magical traditions, and its written records of trade and breeding. In recent times, there was strife within the Möngke-Kha between their more traditionalist members and leader, Temürdai, who insisted on the continued migrations and travel between cities and places and cultures, and the rising sun, Narange, who wished to cultivate stronger (criminal) ties within Doma and use their well cultivated reputation and magical prowess to amass power for themselves. Traditionally the Möngke-Kha would travel in a circuit between Doma, Kugane and the Steppe, the push to establish stronger Doman ties led to their time in the city state growing longer and longer before the attack.
Though they have accepted many students in the past, the scrolls and secrets of the famous technique of the Möngke-Kha has been handed down from second child to second child. As the eldest child controls the more prominent direction of the family, the youngest was expected to become a skilled priest or priestess and practitioner of the Möngke-Kha art. Skilled users are known to be able to see the aetheric flow as well as manipulate it, denying or increasing the magical and physical abilities of others. Due to the nature of aether, skilled Möngke-Kha have been known to send their consciousness back and forth through time to see and read different possibilities and futures resulting in a talent for fortune telling.
