Personality/ Appearance

Due mainly to his lack of social interaction as a child, Saruna was initially a timid and lonesome person. It wasn't until after he'd join the Dragoons that he'd begin to step out of his corner and become less anti-social, though he did only socialize with his elders rather than his peers. While he maintains his do-gooder habits and penchant to help those in need, he often acts distant around crowds. Though among friends and loved ones, he reverts back to the sweet-hearted and selfless person he's always been. There isn't much that upsets Saruna, save for his biggest peeves which are elitism, greed, manipulation or threats. He doesn't hesitate to act rashly and ferociously against anyone that comes off as hostile. In public, he is often accompanied by one or more women. Not that he doesn't enjoy male company, but he'd rather listen to women gossip and talk about their problems though he'd never care to admit it. In light of recent developments, it's been revealed that he is infatuated, if not addicted, to the power of the Dragoon. After obtaining the Fire Pact, he's become much more humorous and mischievous than before, almost always accompanied by his godmother, Trishula. Though when Harmonized, he gains the personality of Trishula as well. It was later revealed that after his first familiar, Tao disappeared, he's held a resentment towards his friends and family that forgot him, blaming their weakness for his death.(More on that later!) As far as appearances go, he's alternated through several outfits to represent his positon of power or to emphasize his already shallow exterior. He enjoys wearing loose and comfortable attire, unless he is Harmonized, where he dawns white attire with a dragon-crested hairpin over his right ear, or a white Dragoon's armet with a white coat. The only consistency in his appearance would be his bronze-tanned skin, and angel blonde hair.

Sorry Saru (1545-1562)
In 1545 of the Sixth Astral Era, Lailah Verselo of House Verselo and the Dark Knight Daenon Alastor met one fateful day as she entered the Forgotten Knight with distressing news, pleading for anyone to come to her aid. After he agreed to help her, it would later be discovered that Lailah was in fact a succubus of the fourth ring, while he was an Archfiend that served a being called the Mistress. As the two grew closer and the months went by, they eventually fell in love. However, their love couldn't last as she was to be wedded to a Highborn noble by the name of Galvus Gram. In her selfishness, she and Daenon made love one final time, though she was not prepared for the consequences as she had become pregnant with his child. As she kept the pregnancy a secret from everyone, she followed through with her wedding a fortnight later and consummated her marriage with Galvus. As she gave birth to Saruna Verselo within the year, she would bear Galvus' son, Caleb Verselo, the following year. Galvus Gram was a mighty Dragoon that was well respected by all Knights of the Order, while Lailah Verselo became known as the Steel Goddess for her proficiency with metal and mechanical engineering. As both sons grew older, Lailah urged Galvus to hang up his lance to spend more attention to his family, at which Galvus stubbornly declined for he enjoyed fighting for something bigger than himself. It would only be two years later that Galvus Verselo would mysteriously disappear in combat by claim of the mighty wyrm Trishula, the Right Hand of Shiva. His body was never recovered... In spite of his presumed death, Lailah refused to raise her children sternly as everyone had expected. She remained a gentle and sweet-hearted mother, teaching her boys to view the world with an open mind, but to keep their ideals to themselves. By the year of 1557, both Caleb and Saruna had made quite the names for themselves. Caleb, the clever and charming son, would become one of the most favored students in their academy, while Saruna was quite the opposite. Due to his jade coloured eyes and consistent failures being viewed as imperfections, Saruna was made a pariah by his peers including his own brother, but he never yearned for companionship. Instead, he'd condescend his peers and look down on them, which resulted in many fights between himself and the other children. In fact, Saruna began to question not why he lacked friends, but why there were barriers within a society and people dictating whom they should associate themselves with. However, with much time on his hands from lack of social activity, he decided to study lancing and train under his mother as a mechanic's apprentice. Regardless of the blatant rivalry between her sons, Lailah slowly began to treasure Saruna more than Caleb, feeling Caleb had failed to understand her teachings and subjecting to society's memes. As Caleb become more popular, Saruna became more self-aware of his own existence, defining his own purpose in life. By the age of 13, Saruna had dropped out of the academy to work for his mother's competitor Skysteel Manufactory, and had been accepted as a squire by the Temple Knights. Upon learning this, Lailah became upset that he would drop out of school and choose her rival over her, to which Saruna replied "I can't learn any new tricks from an old dog." Eventually the rift between mother and son subsided, as Saruna invented the "Dual Arms", an interchangeable weapon composed of two separate arms and capable of discharging weaponized aether; which may have revolutionized Ishgard's military forces had Garlean agents not stolen Saruna's blueprints during their covert infiltration operation. Unable to accept another failure, Saruna made a vow to never make another mistake again; as he went on to master lancing and become foreman at the Skysteel Manufactory by the age of 14. Barely a year afterwards, he was recruited and trained intensively by the Dragoons. Between working at the manufactory and training as a Dragoon, Saruna had adopted a penchant for fighting that allowed him to ascend his limitations at an astounding pace. In only three moons since his training began, Saruna became the youngest Dragoon of his generation that was capable of engaging a wyrm on his own. Cabel, on the other hand, had his fame overshadowed by his brother's and grew unyieldingly envious toward him; while in contrast, Lailah was proud and believed he would become an even greater Dragoon than his father. By the age of 17, Saruna had resigned from Skysteel Manufactory and returned home to work with his mother on designs for new Dragoon Armor and Arms...
The Storm Chevalier (1563)
By 1563, Saruna was well known throughout the Order as a prodigy of tactical combat and mechanical warfare. He received his Drachen mail and set out to obtain his own lance called Pilum. Upon returning home, he would learn that Caleb had resigned from politics and academia to compete with his brother's fame as a Dragoon. His fellow Dragoons mocked Caleb in the presence of Saruna, yet Saruna showed no inkling of empathy for his kin. He was also informed that a girl by the name of Korra began to train under Caleb, believing him to be the best warrior amongst his generation. Though she was told it was in fact Saruna, she refused to believe it as he was absent at the time. As the Dragoons welcomed home their more favored sibling amongst the two, Saruna made his way to the Verselo estate to see his mother, only to learn that the same girl was residing within his home. Lailah kindly introduced the two, and it appeared that Korra grew curious of him immediately. However, as the days went by and rumors of the two began to spread by the household staff, Caleb grew even more envious and conspired to have his brother removed from the "love triangle". After a fortnight since his return, Saruna and Korra were already spending so much time together, everyone knew it was a matter of time before they officially became an item. After realizing this one evening, Saruna grew suspicious of his brother's recent activities, having not seen him more than four times since his return. However, when asked about it by Korra, due to his lack of attentiveness, he lied that he was just daydreaming. As they watched the sunset together while rambling on about various foods and famous artisans, Korra kissed Saruna before he could finish a thought, telling him she knew how he worried too much about the future and should live it up in the present. Unknown to him of his lustful nature, he lustfully pursued Korra and continued their sexual activity in his bedroom. Meanwhile, Caleb's plan had taken action when he paid an outside contact to arrange a distraction only hours before, though none expected it to be as dire as a horde of dravanians heading for the Falcon's Nest. As Saruna heard the call to arms, he pushes Korra off of him and prepares for the impending battle, as does she. After apologizing and leaving a half undressed and armored, yet disgruntled Korra in his room, he left his room only to run into his mother. Without saying anything, Saruna exchanged looks with his mother, and she nodded, letting him go about his way. Upon arriving to Falcon's Nest, Saruna would rendevous with his brethren, but did not see his brother among them. Dismissing it at first, Saruna and company were briefed of the impending horde making it's way to Ishgard. Not even an hour after that, the dravanians were spotted and engaged by the Dragoons. Saruna and the other squires were instructed to wait on standby for further orders. The battle ensued, and a colossal thunderstorm of heavy rain and strong winds had moved over the battlefield, concealing not only the Dragoons and the Dravanians, but something even more terrifying. Just as one of his comrades had made a light jest, Saruna and company looked up into the sky and saw that another horde had eluded the battle by concealing its movements atop the storm's mass. With the first Dragoon to panic and flee for the landing, the others followed suit but Saruna grew enraged and approached the horde before being stopped by his brother. Saruna demanded Caleb to let him go, though Caleb insisted that he would die if he fought, to which Saruna replied that someone had to protect Falcon's Nest. As Caleb released him, Saruna flew up by means of commandeering an airship and engaged the Dravanians in aerial combat. With the airship destroyed and Saruna leaping from dragon to dragon to stay airborne, the thunderstorm had mysteriously begun forming a terrible cyclone with Saruna dead center of it. Slowly, the dragons were felled as he grew weaker with fatigue, but a wyrm darted through the skies and snatched him up in its jaws. Bleeding and exhausted with tremendous pressure crushing his side, Saruna wailed in pain only to have a voice respond to him in tandem. As he scanned the whirl of gust and clouds for the voice, he realized that the voice was speaking to him in his head. He was commanded to hold up his lance pointing it skyward. Delirious from bloodloss, his mind became coherent and obeyed the suggestion. A bright orb of light hovered in the air and as the wyrm darted passed it Saruna managed to grab ahold of the light, revealing it to be a large eye. As he was instructed to channel it's power, Saruna did so and grew invigorated by a rush of rejuvenating aether and bloodlust, enough to release himself from the wyrm's deadly jaws and slay it with an effortless slash of his lance. In a frenzy, dozens of dravanians rushed at him with vengeance, but to no avail as he leapt from each one to stay airborne and killed any that dared to get close enough. As his senses and abilities increased, filling him with ecstasy, Saruna put an end to the battle when he focused all the power he'd gained into one final attack and unleashed a dark mist at the horde. As the dust settled a malm away from Falcon's Nest, the other Dragoons and dravanians ceased their battle and returned to their respective sides. While the latter fled for Dravania, the storm still concealed Saruna within, but not the drained and decayed mass of dravanians. As he fell to the earth, Saruna was caught by yet another Wyrm, though this one much larger than any he'd ever witnessed. It was at that moment he realized he'd been caught by the elder wyrm that claimed the life of his father. As Trishula reintroduced herself, she praised Saruna for his amazing display of brutality as she appeared to smile down at him. Saruna looked at the dragon with rage until noticing one of her eyes was missing. He mockingly asked if his father had taken a memento before she killed him, to which Trishula replied that she hadn't slain his father and Saruna was in possession of the eye. Forgetting that the eye was in his left hand's death grip, Saruna demanded to know why the wyrm would save him. Trishula did nothing but laugh and state it was for personal reasons before politely requesting her eye back. Still enraged and now confused, Saruna felt compelled to return the eye to the wyrm, after which he was told that he would be released so that he may claim victory over the dravanian horde. She released Saruna to the earth and departed before the storm subsided. Saruna descended onto the amassed pile of dragons, as the residence of Falcon's Nest and his fellow Dragoons looked onto him with awe. Saruna claimed the battle to be over and stood there awaiting their response. He found Korra among the crowd, and spoke nothing as the two gazed at one another in silence. Saruna knew that she wouldn't look at him the same way, as she bore witness to the frozen and clustered carcasses of dragons behind him. As the Dragoons began aiding the injured and recovering their fallen comrades, he could not find his brother among the crowd nor could he ignore the whispers of the townsfolk calling him a monster and Stormcaller. As the sun rose that morning, Saruna looked to Korra and said "Today's the anniversary of my birth... For my wish, could you look at me like you used to, before all of this?". Korra took his hand hesitantly and walked with him to the airships, leaving the mound of dravanian carcasses behind as a message to all of Dravania. Upon arriving home, Saruna and Korra arrived to find Caleb elated to see his brother alive. However, he was only denied conversation and physical contact as Saruna was too exhausted to deal with him. After removing his mail and having his wounds tended to by the staff, Saruna and his mother Lailah discussed in his room what had really happened within the storm and his first use of aspected magic. After concluding that they would find more answers in time, Lailah closed his door and embraced her child, allowing Saruna to rest his head atop her lap as they sat on his bed. He fell into a deep and tormenting sleep, recalling the nightmare within the storm. When he awoke the next day, Saruna was instructed to dress formally and meet with the Temple Knights' commander within the hour. Upon arriving at the headquarters, his elder Dragoon brethren praised him as Dragon's Bane. As the lord commander introduced himself, Saruna was informed that there would be an award ceremony for all of his brethren and he would be receiving a public commendation as well. Later that day, the ceremony proceeded and Saruna was dubbed the Storm Chevalier of Ishgard. The Dragoons, his family and most of the citizens cheered for him; while the few despised him as he, along with his brother and Korra were the only ones of his generation left as Dragoons. Saruna would later learn that his comrades that fled were executed for abandoning their post during a time of war. As many began to talk in praise of the Storm Chevalier, Saruna found no joy in his new title, only the endless questions he would ask of the mysterious wyrm, Trishula, upon their next encounter...
The Spear of Shiva (1565)
Two years after the battle in the Western Highlands, Saruna had settled back into the life of an Ishgardian and that of a Dragoon. He spent half his days hunting hostile Dravanians beyond Coerthas, intent on convincing his higher-ups to accept his proposal of a hunting unit. The other half of the days were spent in the Pillars, forced to join social gatherings and meet with suitresses. To his mother's dismay, Saruna would turn them all down, as he was still involved with Korra at the time. His relationship with Korra had begun to sour after the events that occured at Falcon's Nest, leading her to distrust him and spending more time with Caleb. As Saruna joined his mother in the investigation of sightings for the elder wyrm Trishula, Korra would ultimately end her relationship with Saruna as she felt he wasn't making an attempt to reach out to her. Unphased initially, he would continue his hunting patrols out into Dravania, pursuing every hint and tip that might lead him to Trishula. After coming home to find Korra and Caleb having an intimate moment, the realization had finally hit him and he shut away his emotions to give the investigation his complete attention. After four moons, he had finally found a promising lead that a dragon with scales like diamonds had been spotted within Vath territory. Reporting his findings back to the Order,

Lailah Verselo ~~The Goddess of Steel~~
(Mother) One could call Saruna a mother's boy and be 100% correct. He's never been away from his mother longer than weeks at a time, save for his hibernation during the Calamity. Lailah has always been Saruna's closest friend and advisor since he was a child, always trusting in her wisdom with unwavering faith. He's also the only one of her two sons to physical injure someone for taking a peeping glance at her while she worked on a magiteck vehicle. Even after learning that she'd hidden the truth of his lineage, Saruna forgave her within days and sought her help to seal the void tear opened by Cirilla Sorey and his Father.

Friends

Lady Panic/ Eialana Alu'lin~~The Angel in disguise~~
(Close Friend/ Romantic Interest) This woman, with her black scales and tails, is by far the most arrogant and prideful woman Saruna has ever met. Her absolute confidence is something to fear, aside from her cold stare and harsh tone at times. Over time, Saruna has taken note of her predatory gaze and hunger for power, believing that it will inevitably lead to her own destruction... Ironically, it's not so different from the path he follows, perhaps he is simply walking the path she has laid before him? He has had some differences with her, but they got over them and resume their usual relationship of pranks and teasing of one another. At the end of the day, this woman in black is one person Saruna always seems to gravitate towards, and he never hesitates to go running to her aid.
Madam Seraphine ~~The Red Queen~~
(Friend/ Possible Romantic Interest) Not much can be said about this remarkable beauty, except that she always seemed to draw Saruna with her alluring charm and wit... And that she enjoys the finer things in life, like wine for instance. As he sat down at a table one afternoon, he'd spark a conversation with the woman, her having been sitting there before his arrival. That conversation would lead Saruna to a begin a new investigation, and drive him towards discovering who she was. After seeing the true woman behind the masks, he believed more than ever that he could find a kindred spirit within the her. Though he would never admit it, he began questioning whether his attraction to her was fated or a lovespell casted on him by the lavender temptress. Ultimately, he chose to leave her life indefinitely until he could sort through his feelings and move on with his own. Upon returning, however, he'd chosen a different path, one that Seraphine now obstructed and is determined to reach his destination... Even if it means removing her permanently from the equation.
"I want you to remember, everytime you look at that seed, that everyone is capable of creating something beautiful... Even you, Seraphine." -Saruna
Minox Moks ~~The Stormrider~~
(Romantic Interest/ Employer) Starting with a chance encounter at the Drowning Wench that would lead him to inviting this charming, Xaela for lunch, Saruna grew attracted to her rather quickly. Her charm and impish personality, along with her modest beauty, would only lure him more as he spent time with her at the Siren & Sage and on various trips across Eorzea. As high spirited and playful as this woman was, he didn't expect her to be so strong. As time would go on, he'd slowly discover the extent of the pain she had endured, and only grew to admire her more for keeping hope and staying positive even through the darkest of storms. The playful winks and smiles she would throw his way would make his heart flutter and forget that this same woman holds so much more than he does weighing down on her heart. A strong woman like that, he couldn't help but fall for her, but just how hard will he fall?...

OOC Concepts

Archfiend
Voidsent beings that feed on other voidsent to increase their power and rank on the hierarchy. The first Archfiend was made when a necromancer in the War of the Magi, defeated and consumed a voidsent to obtain their power through their essence. This created an insatiable hunger for the the creature of the dark. This abomination of voidsent is only know to be hereditary, as the only known Archfiend at this moment is Daenon Alastor, Saruna Verselo's biological father.
Harmonium
The knowledge and power to merge void essence and aether (generally the Harmonium user and their familiar) into one. The combined being gains Harmonized powers, new voidal powers and spells based on the element the host is aligned with and new equipment resistant to void influence.
