Basic Info

Often called Shin. Somewhat shy and flustered by intimacy. Very protective of those he holds dear. A strong fighter, who uses his speed and agility more than brute strength to get the job done. Overly formal in speech. Willing to stand for what he believes in.

History

Born to a break-away tribe living near Ul'dah. Tribe was composed of mostly Seekers, with a few Keepers as well. Family life wasn't traditionally tribal, but a large extended and open family living more by Ul'dan standards of civilization albeit with some differences. The clan was very open with each other, and physical touch was an important part of the familial bond. Petting, hugs and 'fur pile' sleeping arrangements were what he grew up with.

He joined up with a merc company in his teens, which was then absorbed into the Flames during the war leading up to the Calamity. Those events shattered his family like they did much of Eorzea. Most of his family was killed, but the remaining survivors were broken and many lost the will to live. Scattering to the winds, Shin knows some survived and returned to the tribes but he had to find another path that was moving forward, not back.

Since then he has traveled and trained, always looking for something and never quite knowing what. He has recently moved to Limsa Lominsa to join the Vylbrand Academy in hopes of further improving himself.

Personality

Very friendly and enjoys meeting new folk, though he does tend to be overly formal and shy when it comes to more personal interaction. A protector at heart who is looking for something worthy and needing protection. To keep others from knowing the pain of losing loved ones if he can do anything to avoid it.

When he left the family compound, he discovered that the physical 'skinship' that his family shared wasn't the norm outside the enclave and he clamped down hard on those feelings and needs. As a result of this knee-jerk reaction, he uses formal speech and more old fashioned manners like one might expect of a knight as a sort of emotional armor. Because of the conflict between how he presents himself and how he was raised to feel, he is easily flustered. He wants those connections, family, and close relationships yet is scared of letting people in and opening himself to the pain of loosing them,.

Should someone get past that armor, they would find a fierce lover who is loyal and warm-hearted.

Affiliations

Currently enrolled as a student at Vylbrand Academy (Unsung Heroes Free Company) in the Protectorate division.

Other Notes

He doesn't drink as he is very much a lightweight with alcohol. Drunk Shin doesn't filter himself at all and is very physically affectionate and overly friendly. This is something he found out shortly after joining the merc company, and something his friends would often try to bring about because they knew it embarrassed him. He doesn't enjoy not being in control of himself and avoids drinking anything intoxicating if at all possible.

Q&A(adapted from "The 20 Questions," 7th Sea RPG)

What country is your hero from? Ul'dah. Born and raised on the sands, though not knowing much about the city till he left the enclave of his family.

How would you physically describe your hero? A bit taller than average for miqo'te, though not towering or even the tallest of his kind. His body is well built but not overly muscled. There is power and strength there, but he's made for dexterity not brute force.

Does your hero have recurring mannerisms? Blushes or stammers when conversations turn more flirty, or he's interested in someone. His tail and ears speak volumes about his mental state, like most cats.

What is your hero’s main motivation? To improve himself, become stronger and find new family and loved ones to share it all with and protect.

What is your hero’s greatest strength? Greatest weakness? His greatest strength is his willingness to do whatever it takes to protect the ones he cares about. His greatest weakness is the fear of letting anyone get too close, only to lose them again.

What are your hero’s most and least favorite things? His favorite thing is companionship. Being close to and sharing with friends and loved ones. His least favorite thing is weakness. In himself being strong enough to protect, and in others when they give up.

What about your hero’s psychology? He's a bit broken at the moment. He has been alone for the past five years, and old wounds have yet to heal. He is determined to keep moving forward and not let apathy overtake him.

What is your hero’s single greatest fear? Being alone.

What are your hero’s highest ambitions? His greatest love? Shin's highest ambition would be to start his own family settlement. A place for loved ones to live, grow, share, and be safe. His greatest love is family, be it blood or those forged in strife.

What is your hero’s opinion of his country? He likes the sand and heat, and the bustle of the city. He doesn't care for the power struggles and the Syndicate that more or less runs things, but it will always be his home. To him Ul'dah is more about people, than money and goods.

Does your hero have any prejudices? The Garleans destroyed everything he cared about. He's not one to let revenge consume him, but any work that lets him strike back at the Empire is welcome. The Limsans are rough folk, but he respects the oft-times brutal honesty of the sea-folk. He's not too sure about the Gridanians. They seem a bit backwoods, but their fervor and talents can't be denied.

Where do your hero’s loyalties lie? To himself, mostly. He is coming to be more loyal and concerned about the others at Vylbrand.

Is your hero in love? Is he married or betrothed? Shin doesn't have any partners at this time.

What about your hero’s family? Mostly absent. There are still some survivors alive, but he hasn't seen them in years or really know where they ended up.

How would your hero’s parents describe him? Not knowing him sense they perished in the Calamity, they would describe him as a very warm and loving man. Good with a hammer, but likely a bit too smitten with the girls when he should be focused on whatever task is at hand.

What is your hero's social status? He's a commoner. As long as he has enough to get buy or do what he needs to, he doesn't care so much about coin.

How religious is your Hero? Which of the Twelve does he follow? He follows Althyk, keeper of time. He is not very religious, but understands that things always change and that one must remember the past while moving to create the future.

Is your hero a member of a guild, gentleman’s club, or secret society? Not at the moment.

What does your hero think of sorcery? He's not a fan of destructive magic, but sees great value in at least opening dialog with the spirits of the land as well as the conjurer's healing arts.

If you could, what advice would you give your hero? Relax. Lighten up and live a little. Have some fun and don't keep people out so much.
