Sigue Valtierre (pronounced /ˈsi:g vəʊlti:eə/) is a Duskwight Elezen warrior specializing in close combat with battleaxes and swords. Sired by a renowned Ishgardian war hero, he is the founder and fearless leader of the Silver Mercenaries, a modestly-sized yet extremely capable mercenary band with Doman roots and a network that once reached across Eorzea. He was alive during the Calamity in 1572, and was deeply involved in The Battle of Carteneau, where he was left heavily injured and with no knowledge of neither the whereabouts nor well-being of his former companions. With the Silver Mercenaries in a state of disarray, he has spent the past year playing a major role in the expansion of Revenant's Toll in Mor Dhona, and currently wanders across Eorzea for the sake of finding work utilizing his extraordinary skill as a mercenary.

Appearance

Height: 6 fulms, 10 ilms - He stands particularly tall, even by Elezen standards, causing him to stick out quite a bit and occasionally appear as imposing to some. Is more akin to male Au Ra in terms of general height, some of which may be slightly taller than he.
Weight: 262 ponz - While he doesn't quite seem to carry as much weight as he does, the majority of his body weight can be attributed to the dense bone structure typical for one of his size, and the powerful, superbly conditioned muscles lining his frame. While fairly bulkier than the majority of his kind, he still retains the characteristic lean figure of an Elezen male.
Complexion: A cool-toned earthen tan that can be attributed both to his natural complexion as a Duskwight along with frequent exposure to the suns rays during travel and other outdoor activities. Accustomed to quite nearly a lifetime of combat, several scars mark across his otherwise smooth skin and line his torso, arms, and legs. His fingers and palms are somewhat rough in texture and bear slight calluses from very often wielding heavy weaponry, despite the fact that he usually wears appropriate handwear while doing so.
Face: Strong, chiseled features line his profile, with pronounced cheek bones and straight lines defining his jawline, giving him a fairly striking appearance. His luxurious silver-toned eyes maintain a sharp, piercing gaze and yet carry with them a slight warmth when looked upon. A prominent scar spans across the bridge of his nose and travels horizontally along his cheek just below his left eye, with another cut across his jaw bone.
Hair: Deep, wintery-blue strands of hair hang loosely over his features, his hair often kept at a medium length largely due to a lack of care for styling it overly much. What care he does pay to his hair rarely extends past running a comb through it, and though he does maintain fair degree of cleanliness, his lack of maintenance occasionally results in a somewhat shaggy head of hair.
Scent: He's been mentioned to smell reminiscent of summer soil after a day of heavy rain, with hints of sandalwood accenting his natural scent. He has also occasionally been mentioned to carry a slight metallic scent to him when he begins to sweat.

Personality and Behavior

Voice: His voice is of a deep, husky tone that carries with it a warm, gentle tone when speaking to familiar company, and a slightly sharp tone when speaking to those unfamiliar. His words are enunciated properly, and his speech very occasionally carries a slight Doman accent.
Demeanor: Sigue has a tendency to speak to most people in much the same manner, which is often a fairly kind and somewhat familiar demeanor, though he may rarely decide to speak in formal terms depending on the situation. He speaks in a blunt, yet passionate manner, and carries with himself the charisma and understanding of a natural-born leader, often speaking in clear and concise terms. Neither boastfully arrogant nor falsely modest, he is well aware of what he is capable and incapable of at a given time and circumstance, and is forward in addressing his own shortcomings as well as calling out the shortcomings of others. Though able to speak freely and in a calm manner, he usually appears fairly expressionless. This is due in part to extended training as a warrior, resulting in the Elezen taking an almost excessively calm and composed demeanor in most situations.
Intelligence: He seems to be of average intelligence. While able to read and write, he has never received a formal education, and most of his intelligence comes from intuition and experience during his travels. While he is freely able to admit ignorance on a fair many subjects, he greatly prefers to learn of the world around him in person, often by meeting others in different lands. Despite this, he has also taken a fair amount of knowledge from various reference tomes, particularly so on war treatices, strategy, geography, and magical studies. Due to living in a foreign country for a large portion of his life, he is generally able to understand the speech patterns of others, including those with heavy or deep accents.
Quirks: Sigue is used to always having a weapon within immediate access, which usually consists of a large battleaxe, which he hardly notices the weight of most of the time. Even in casual settings, he greatly prefers to have his armament within arm's reach, often as a result of needing to move quickly for his profession. He often travels very lightly, his axe easily making up the most weight he carries on his shoulders. His ears twitch occasionally; often in response to certain sounds or when trying to hear something. He is left-handed. He is a big eater, and is generally capable of clearing several plates in one sitting, if not entire tablespreads.
TV Tropes: Big Eater Lightning Bruiser The Unfettered The Stoic Perpetual Frowner Secret Identity Emotion Suppression Big Damn Heroes An Axe to Grind Deadpan Snarker Putting the Band Back Together Brutal Honesty Humble Hero One Man Army The Leader A Father to His Men Badass Baritone Good is not Soft Innocently Insensitive Socially-Awkward Hero You Gotta Have Blue Hair Asskicking Equals Authority Frontline General Awesomeness by Analysis Pointy Ears

Combat

Style: An unstoppable frontline fighter, Sigue utilizes a rough, aggressive and yet unusually skillful fighting style that primarily utilizes a two-handed axe. He makes full use of mobility and power to overwhelm opponents and foes, often in large groups. He has mastered the art of the Warrior, and is fully able to augment his speed, strength, endurance, and other attributes greatly by absorbing high amounts of aether into his body.
Specialization: Excels in close combat with various forms of melee weaponry. He is an expert with both single and two-handed axes, with the majority of his experience in the latter. He also has a fair deal of skill in swordsmanship, which he often puts to use in sparring situations as well as teaching others. He knows teleportation magic, but often uses it as a convenience for travel versus using it in combat.
Strengths: Close combat, and surprise attacks due to his teleportation abilities. He excels most as a frontline fighter, easily able to overwhelm or weaken entire lines of enemies. He also has a very keen eye for the tide of battle, and can serve as an exceptional tactician.
Weaknesses: Outside of teleportation magic--which he considers more an extension of his existing abilities--Sigue has little to no affinity towards the arcane. He is incapable of using traditional magic, with the only exception being a laughable display of weak curative magic generated by the aether within his body. This magic is often useful as first aid and patchwork, but little else. This makes him fairly vulnerable to foreign aether in the form of magic, something which he often tends to study deeply less to utilize for himself, and more to devise proper counters to magic usage.
Armor: Sigue is most often wearing fairly functional, yet heavy armor. He tends to favor coats lined with plate versus full suits of armor, but has been known to equip the latter in situations that might require extra protection. Most importantly however, he tends to dress in attire that both serves as highly functional in combat as well as extended periods of travel.

Biography

1551 - 1556: Early Childhood

Sigue was born during a frigid winter evening in the slums of Ishgard to a lowborn, sickly mother. His father had passed but months prior, a renowned Ishgardian war hero who had breathed his last on the battlefield. His mother was of a sickly disposition, her lowborn status leaving her few options to improve her position. However, when she lay eyes upon the child who carried his father's strength and her mother's gentle disposition, she quickly made off with the gil she had saved and ventured to distant lands, wishing for the child to live in a place absent from the grasp of war. Her travels had led her as far as Doma, where her worsening condition had finally overtaken her. The infant was left in the care of a remote village's elder with little else on his person besides a hand-woven ahriman doll, and mysterious blood-red stone that hung around his neck and held an unusual etching reminiscent of an axe head.

1557 - 1564: Childhood

As a child, Sigue had grown into a stubborn and adventurous nature fueled by the mysterious gem that lay draped around his neck. With a vague knowledge of his father's heroics in the past, he made to follow those images of grandeur, which more often than not resulted in him disobeying the village elder and instead venturing into the wilderness, or getting himself into fights with the tougher kids in town. In 1563, he founded a group called the "Ahriman's Eye," A group of young children around his age formed for the sake of keeping the peace, uncovering mysteries, fulfilling requests from the townsfolk, and going on adventures both within and without village borders. While much of their work was fairly menial, the group would often get into situations well beyond it's capability. The most significant of these incidents occurred when the Ahriman's Eye uncovered a Garlean invasion scheme, which ultimately resulted in Sigue's home village being burned to the ground, and the loss of one of his trusted companions, Siyin Liu.

1565 - 1566: A New Home

With nowhere to return, Sigue and his companions had fled from the invading Garlean Empire, running and not looking back until they'd found solace in a remote abandoned cottage in the Doman countryside. Run down as it was, it had quickly become home for the displaced children, and gradually worked into a fairly discreet base of operations. Faced by the harshness of reality, Sigue had begun to change as an individual, his demeanor becoming far more serious than before, with almost every waking moment spent honing his combat skills and attuning to the soulstone which he still wore upon his neck. Combat techniques of eld flooded his mind from what was once simply his father's keepsake, and he took to learning each and every technique while easily conquering the rage that welled within him as a result. During rest periods, he filled his mind with information collected from war treatises and geographical texts.

1567 - 1571: The Silver Mercenaries

During the snow season of 1567, a small, nondescript mercenary group emerged from the snows, using the local terrain with such expert capability and displaying unheard of fighting prowess to rout an entire battalion of Garlean troops. At the head of this large-scale operation was none other than Sigue, and with it came the birth of the Silver Mercenaries; a fairly small troop of exceptionally powerful individuals founded to serve as Doma's champions. The Silver Mercenaries collected numerous accolades under their name, Sigue having earned the title of "Winter King" from the decisive strike he formulated that winter. However, as Garlemald's invasion gained traction and the military force set its sights upon the remote land of Eorzea, Sigue found himself needing to call his troops to fall back and relocate to a land that had yet to face Garlemald's military might.

1572 - 1577: The Battle of Carteneau

The Silver Mercenaries had joined with the Eorzean Alliance to repel the Garlean assault while Dalamud hung within the night sky. With no option but to fight, Sigue and his men led their forces to cut down countless forces while the distance between the lesser moon and their home planet lessened. It was a battle unlike any that the mercenary troop had faced, thousands being lost in the chaos once the moon had erupted and rained death upon those below. Sigue was separated from his own troop as the flames covered the battlefield beneath, but he found himself caught within the grasp of a powerful teleportation spell before the flames could take him, his next living memory occurring five years in the future.

1577 - Now: Recent History

Severely injured and displaced, Sigue was hardly conscious when he was found in a present-day Mor Dhona, recovered by an expeditionary band and healed back to his prior condition--with the exception of a few scars that seemed to have etched into his skin permanently. With no information regarding the whereabouts of his companions, he decided to repay the hospitality he was shown in Revenant's Toll by assisting in the building up of the post-town as hired help. He has since been reunited with Rin Maelark, his former companion and maid of the Silver Mercenaries. With his work completed in Mor Dhona, Sigue has begun to travel Eorzea yet again, looking for work while keeping an eye out for any of his missing friends.
