Subaru Mikami (born on the 20th Sun of the 3rd Astral Moon as Sarantsatsr Hotgo) is a young Au Ra, who has travelled from Doma by ship to Eorzea in search of fellow Doman refugees, who wishes to aid in the liberation of their homeland. Secretive by nature, not much is known about her past, but she does for some reason have a strange name for a Xaela.

Appearance & Personality

Subaru looks rather frail with her height of 5 ilms and weight of barely 112 ponze. Dark scales patch her body and face and a pair of sharp horns protrudes from the sides of her head, pointing backwards in a shape that would almost look like the wings of a bat. Her light blonde hair, streaked with black, reaches just past her ears in a scruffy style and her violet eyes always carry a solemn, almost somber look. Her skin tone is light, giving her an almost Huyr-like appearance, had it not been for the dark scales on her body, her horns and her lizard-like tail. On her face, she carries the typical facepaint of the Hotgo which tends they would change depending on their mood. Subaru has not changed hers since the death of her tribe, carrying her markings in a deep blue, almost black, color to show her continuous grief for the loss of her clanmates.

Though she has faced several hardships in life, Subaru is a stubborn character who refuses to let life get the best of her. She is a survivor in the truest sense and she is not one to easily give up, even when facing a difficult challenge. While fairly outgoing, Subaru tends to not speak about her past, particularly her life before coming to Doma, fearing that the killers of her clan will come to hunt her down. Neither will she speak up about being an enemy of the Garlean Empire, knowing that they may have agents in Eorzea. She is strong-willed and not easily pushed around. Combined with her short temper and emotional instability, this can lead to some heated arguments which have sometimes escalated into actual fights. She is particularly ticked off by people getting in her personal space or treating her as a 'frail' woman. She is quite squeamish when it comes to dead bodies and severely wounded as they bring back horrible memories and they will make her dart away quite fast.

Subaru has a hard time trusting others completely and it takes a lot of work to gain her loyalty. However, once that is gained, it is something that will last. Gaining her complete trust also means that she might eventually open up about her past and allow someone to call her by her birth name.

Biography

Childhood

Subaru was born to the Hotgo tribe as Sarantsatsr on the wide steppes of Othard. From a young age, she was trained to be a scout for the hunting groups and she was often send out to find the grazing grounds of the beastkin her clan survived by hunting. Her upbringing was the same as many Hotgo tribe members before her, until a day during her 10th moon where she returned from a scouting mission to a bloodbath. Their camp had been torn apart and the dead bodies of her clanmates lay scattered on the bloodied ground. Unsuccesful in finding any survivors, she fled the scene, fearing that the killers might still be nearby and come looking for her.

Wandering the plains of Othard, she survived for weeks using the skills she had learned from senior members in her clan, but she eventually succumbed to exhaustion. It was then that she was found by a merchant Raen woman from Doma, who took her in to raise as her daughter. The young Sarantsatsr shared her story with the woman, who found it in the best interest that the girl had a new name - an alias to cover her true identity and hide her from her enemies. It was then she was named Subaru Mikami.

Teenage

During her stay in Doma, Subaru was taught new skills. She found a passion for playing traditional Doman instruments and often performed on the streets for money. While she and her adoptive mother were already well off, it was a job that she prided herself on. Around the same time, she was introduced by a friend of her adoptive mother to a guild of mercenaries, who taught her ways to defend herself, should she ever need it. She became fairly skilled with short blades and knuckles.

I would soon come to prove useful as rebel groups rose up in Doma, no longer willing to be subdued by the Garlean Empire. Subaru had joined one of them, much to the dissatisfaction of her adoptive mother, working to sabotage the Magitek equipment that the Garleans used. Although her knowledge on the subject was limited, most things were easily broken with a good beating. Then came the mission to destroy a shipment of the Empire's Magitek armor, located in a Doman warehouse. While initially succesful in infiltrating the warehouse, thanks to the group's careful planning, a bomb going off too soon alerted the guards to their presence and, while the group managed to escape mostly unharmed, their sabotage had been unsuccesful and fair bounties were put on their heads. This forced the group to lay low for a while, only able to watch their allies lose battle after battle.

The uprising eventually proved to be unfruitful in the end. The Empire was far too strong for simple rebel groups to stand up against. In hopes of one day being able to liberate their home, Subaru travelled with a number of her fellow rebels to Eorzea, planning to meet up with fellow Doman refugees and gather allies. Perhaps they would then be able to fight back against the Empire and reclaim Doma.

Present

Subaru and her group ended up in Limsa Lominsa and shortly after, they scattered in the wind. She opted to stay in Limsa, taking freelance work for the citizens while earning some extra money on the side as a street performer, alluring the people of Limsa with her foreign music. However, she has yet to give up hope on finding her fellow refugees.
