Biography

Moghu Iloh is a fishing post on the eastern coastland of the Azim Steppe. This village, for only the past thirty years, as been a Kharlu post; it was a constant token the Kharlu and Jhungid war over for seafood. Luckily for the Kharlu, Tsagaday lead his clan to victory and settled down to receive his title as 'bek', or chieftain of Moghu Iloh. There, he started a family with his wife, of whom passed away shortly after the birth of their only child, Yesuntei. Yesuntei would grow up a quiet child, developing a close relationship with her father, even during 'her' transition to a young man, naming himself Suyi.

Suyi was exposed to the violence between the Jhungid and the Kharlu since he was born. Tsagaday Bek commanded able-bodied Xaela of Moghu Iloh to take to the battlefield to defend Kharlu territory on the eastern coastlands, of which flunctuated each year in the annual war between the tribes. One year, it'd lasted for two moons before being settled.

During this year, the first of the Jhungid finally came to dispute Kharlu control over Moghu Iloh. Even Suyi took up the bow and arrow at ten summers old to face off with the enemy tribe. Seeing they were losing the fight Tsagaday Bek put up against them, the Jhungid decided if they couldn't have Moghu Iloh, they would torch it.

Even if their numbers were larger, the Jhungid had failed to take Moghu Iloh, the Kharlu there more proficient with battles on open water. Still, a great portion of the village was destroyed in the conflict, taking the Kharlu years to rebuild what they had lost, especially while fending off Jhungid ambushes. For the next eight years, they spent time fortifying the iloh. From what started as a humble fishing village to a greater port for Kharlu shipwrights, making their boats from whalebone and what wood they could trade for with other Kharlu.

Suyi's pride for his clan didn't waver, despite the increased aggression from the village. He still found calm in their way of life, diving and fishing for rare goods beneath the waves. Eventually, Moghu Iloh wasn't enough. At eighteen summers old, with a decent grasp of the Common language, he decided to set out for Reunion, intent on avoiding the conflict with the Jhungid that damaged his home and his childhood. Not finding this enough of an escape, he set his sights greater; to Limsa Lominsa. Not wanting to abandon his family and the village he would eventually inherit as chieftain, he returns with the aetheryte of Moghu Iloh frequently.

Personality

Attitude

Though something of a pessimist, Suyi is serious, constantly trying to improve his situation. This gives him something of a rough exterior, but he usually means well. Despite his mental condition, he is not very panic-prone, but is on high alert frequently.

Sociability

Suyi is rather withdrawn, compared to the rest of his village. Despite this, he spends a lot of time outdoors, preferring to interact with sea creatures rather than fellow Kharlu a lot of the time. This can give the illusion that he's shy, when most of the time, he's actually disinterested.

Expressiveness

A smile is not as rare a gift as some people would think for Suyi, once you've befriended him. He might confide too little or too much in people, which leads to miscommunication, so he tends to say nothing at all. When he does express his opinion, he expresses it honestly.

Notes & Trivia

  • Suyi had incredible talent as a fisher growing up. Armed with bows, rods, spears, and blow darts, Suyi always came out on top at festivals, even during cross-clan contests.
  • Suyi is right-handed, thus is left-eye dominant in archery.
  • Hailing from a clan of blue-skinned Kharlu, a typical feature of Suyi's family features finned tails, as well as horns shaped like fins. Suyi's teeth are entirely sharp.
  • Suyi deals with psychosis in his day-to-day life, keeping quiet about it to prevent others from viewing upon him negatively. He struggles with auditory hallucinations mainly, which occasionally tell him many violent things, but finds a good grounding technique in focusing on non-violent tasks like writing about marine life. He is more withdrawn than most of his village, prefering to spend time alone. He's poor at social communication due to his illness, but tries his best.
