Character

Name

Given Name: T'salmaveth Sadi'a (tsal - maw' - veth | Sah - di - ah)

Aliases/Nicknames:

T'sal: What most call him, since his given name is on the long-ish side and can be tricky to pronounce.

Appearance

Height: 5 fulms, 9 ilms - Very tall for a Miqo'te
Weight: 150 ponz - wiry and slender
Body: T'salmaveth is on the tall side for a Miqo'te and very lean. His wiry build hides a body kept fit with his habit of running errands on the docks every now and then, and his way of working out his frustration by going for long runs outside of the city. While slender, he does have muscle definition that can be seen if he sheds his shirt while helping at the docks. He is meticulous with his hands and keeps his nails on the longish side and filed sharp. T'sal considers this practical for his work and an extra advantage if forced into a hand to hand fight, which is very rare.
Complexion: Inheriting his mother's paleness and his father's warm skin-tone, T'sal's pale creamy complexion is not exactly the friendliest to have when working on hot docks in the sun. Prone to getting sun-burnt, T'sal works hard to avoid doing any out-door work when the sun is at its height or sticks to shaded areas. He has no scars and only the birth marks he was born with around his eyes.
Face: His most striking feature captures and brings attention directly to his face. Bright silver, his eyes have an uncanny shine to them and are easily his most distinguishing feature. Framed by his birthmarks, his keen steady gaze can be unnerving to people if he focuses on them for any reason. He has delicate features and could be considered almost pretty, though his serious nature blunts that impression a bit. He tends to have a smooth neutral/cold expression unless forced into social situations where he will put on expressions as necessary, though often slipping into mildly disapproving or annoyed if forced to be social for too long.
Hair: Silky and thick, T'sal's hair is a deep black that he keeps smoothed back from his face. Deep burnished red highlights can be seen when the light hits it just right. He lets it grow long, though keeps it trimmed to avoid ratty ends.
Fashion: Crisp and clean, T'sal prefers tunics with full sleeves, tight breeches and tall boots. He tends to wear gloves and shows very little skin when possible. He keeps a book attached to his belt along with multiple pouches for his inks, quills and other necessary nick-nacks. And one dedicated to his sweets... When he takes time to go down to the docks to help out, a habit his adopted father installed in him that he continues out of respect for Rugged Path and to keep an eye out for anything interesting coming off the ships, he will strip his shirt off to avoid damaging it and getting it soaked in the work-induced sweat.

Behavior

Voice: T'salmaveth's voice is deep, with a purring slightly 'furred' tone. He doesn't go out of his way to talk to anyone unless absolutely necessary but when he does he is crisp, clear and to the point. He slips easily into sarcasm but generally comes off as sounding cultured and disinterested. When prodded into being upset or excited about something he can become agitated and speak very quickly, as if his mouth is trying to keep up with his mind. (If he had a VO it would be Benedict Cumberbatch.)
Demeanor: Usually quiet and serious, he appears to brood heavily when alone and seems very detached from the world around him, as if he holds no interest in it. He despises being touched and will react violently if someone persists on invading his personal space after a warning or two. He has absolutely no interest in politics or religion, viewing both as little more than things to get in his way or ineffective when it matters.
Quirks: He tends to stare off at nothing, eyes unfocused and ears twitching as if listening to something no one else can hear when left to his own devices. He will constantly mix up the names of people he interacts with and doesn’t appear to care if it annoys anyone. He very frequently forgets to eat but keeps a little pouch of chocolates on him that he will absently snack on. He gets incredibly grumpy when he reaches for one and finds the pouch empty.
Flaws: Aside from his anti-social tendencies and dislike of physical interactions with others, T'sal has a habit of riling himself up when faced with an annoyance or blockage in his research. He will pace in his room and growl to himself until he's either figured the problem out or gets so frustrated he has to slip out of town and go for an exhausting run away from any and everyone. If he can't do that, he will seclude himself and smoke. He also can get incredibly snarky to people that go out of their way to annoy him.
Intelligence: At the insistence of his adopted father and by his own skills, T’sal is highly schooled and book-read. Thanks to hired tutors that embraced all of the various cultures and races that moved through Limsa Lominsa's ports, he has some experience in the various customs of the other countries. Ever since Bahamut’s release, he has been consumed with the lost history of Summoners and constantly searches for information on them.
Religious Views: T'salmaveth does not argue that the Twelve exist. He acknowledges they have power, that others believe in them deeply and that some look to them for guidance and assistance. He, most decidedly, does not. To him, they are antiquated powers that failed when called upon in this era. Though something does seem to tickle the corner of his mind, like a melody he can almost hear but can't quit reach...

Relationships

Family

T'ehlat Tia (Father)- A Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te, T'ehlat never really aspired to become a nuhn in his tribe and had wider aspirations outside the small village they were part of. With an easy smile, warm tanned skin and shockingly bright red hair, T'ehlat took his interest in thaumaturgy all the way to Ul'dah where he was able to fully explore his apparently considerable skill. Joining up with a trio of others, he became a member of their free company of adventurers and enjoyed the thrill of traveling and exploring Eorzea. During their travels they came into competition from another free company lead by a massive Hellsguard that had a vivacious, straight-forward, highly competitive female Miqo'te archer from a Keeper of the Moon clan. Both curious and keen to rise to the challenge as they began to compete for jobs, T'ehlat began to find ways to get her attention and get one up on her and her team. This was met with annoyed hisses and fierce competition back, which only amused the fun-loving and affable Seeker. By the time the two groups had settled into the Limsa Lominsa area they were running into each other so much the two leaders often sat together in the inns contemplating just joining their groups together to make it easier for their two Miqo'te to flirt in their own 'special' way. It only took T'ehlat a year or so to finally win the full affection of Sadi Ageha, to the delight of both the free company groups. Once Sadi informed him that she was pregnant a switch seemed to click for T'ehlat and his cheerfulness gave way to a short period of brooding, worrying both Sadi and the company-families. Once his son was born he drew Sadi aside and confessed that he was not sure the best future would be for their child. He strongly desired to continue to work as an adventurer and further his skills but he did not want his son to have to deal with the Seeker tradition of 'nuhn' and 'tia', one of the things that had always bothered him deep down before he had left. Luckily, Sadi had no interest in changing either of their life-styles and was equally unhappy with the customs of her own tribe, one that had kept itself more isolated from the cities and was dominated by her grandmother, a women she deeply resented. With both agreeing to continue their work with their companies but settling in Limsa Lominsa, T'ehlat threw himself into finding more and more work that had higher payouts to better support his mate and child. In the end, his driving desire to support Sadi while she could not work got his company caught up in a job that turned out to be far more dangerous than anyone had realized and he was mortally wounded ensuring that the others got out of the caves in time. His company rushed him back to Limsa Lominsa and he was able to die with Sadi and his son at his bedside. DECEASED
Sadi Ageha (Mother)- Born into a reclusive Keeper of the Moon tribe, Sadi Ageha began to chafe under the strict leadership of her maternal grandmother very early in life. Born with a strong desire to travel and see new things rather than follow her grandmother's ways, Sadi was constantly getting in trouble and developed a flippant competative nature. Almost brutally straight-forward, she made few friends within the close-knit community by the time she turned 18. Finally fed up, Sadi stole some food, a few changes of clothing from her mother and a bow before sneaking away from the tribe and making her way through the Twelvewood. Stumbling on a group of travelers, she was invited to join them at their camp and got to know the Wildwood Elezen. She traveled with them to Gridania where she found a place with the Archer's Guild and flourished with the new freedoms. Joining up with one of the Elezen she had initially met when coming to Gridania, Sadi leapt into the life of an adventurer with apolmb. She grew strongly attached to the leader of their group, a Hellsguard named Rugged Path, who was more than happy to take her under his wing as basically a daughter. A year or two into their travels they brushed up against another group that was working in the same area and she noticed a flashy male Miqo'te. Finding herself strangely annoyed that he kept popping up to snatch jobs away from her, she began to go out of her way to discover what his group was planning to do and pushing Rugged Path to take the jobs before they could, instead. Amused at her attitude and with a knowing wink to Vielle, the Elezen who had brought Sadi into their group, Rugged Path helped her out. Between Lewena, the forth member of their little family, and Vielle it was no secret to Rugged Path that the red-haired Miqo'te was casting eyes their way for more than just competition for jobs. Sadi remained stubbornly focused on the challenge poor T'ehlat presented for almost a year while the two companies began to exchange bets on when the persistent Seeker would finally win her over. She did pause to snap Rugged Path with her bow not long after she informed him of her accepting of T'ehlat as a mate when he had the gall to laugh and thank her for netting him a pile of gil from the others. The birth of her son and the subsequent concern of T'ehlat regarding where he would be raised made Sadi finally sit down and tell him and Rugged Path about her childhood and that she did not want her son to be raised in a similar situation that she had been. She continued to hold a grudge against her grandmother and had a slight distrust of how other Miqo'te would react to her son, she was determined that he be raised with her current family and within the melting pot that Limsa Lominsa provided. When T'ehlat was mortally wounded out on a job, Sadi was quietly devastated. She became even more protective of her quiet and serious child and flung herself into her work under the concerned and careful eye of Rugged Path. Five years later, Sadi was caught unaware by a torama while the rest of the company was dealing with a small pack of coeurl and killed warning them of the danger. Her death was a blow to the small company and they all rallied around her child, swearing that they would follow her wishes and bring him up in Limsa Lominsa. DECEASED
Rugged Path (Adopted Father)- A Hellsguard Roegadyn of around 45 years of age at the death of Sadi, he was the leader of a small four-man free company. A fierce marauder, Rugged Path was a strongly honorable and proud man. He was well known and respected for his work and dedication to getting a job done right. With his natural leadership and work ethic, Rugged Path had a very large circle of contacts and friends in many places around Eorzea. When Sadi died he was the first to step up and adopt her son, presenting papers that Sadi had worked with him to set up, just in case. He took her desire to have her son raised with experience of more than she ever had and arranged tutors from all over Erozea that lived or traveled through the port city. He was strict, but firm with T'salmaveth and encouraged him to do more than just study and pushed him to take odd jobs down on the docks to both get to know a wide range of people and get some exercise. He showed a tenderness towards his adopted son and was one of the very few people that T'salmaveth emotionally and physically connected to, often going to the massive Roegadyn for comfort and curling up on his broad chest. As he watched the boy get older, Rugged Path grew more and more concerned for him and his odd habits. When the turmoil with the beastmen and movement of the Garleans started to ramp up he watched as his adopted son grew more and more agitated, to the point where the boy started to get into physical vicious fights at the docks. After talking to a friend of his in the Arcanist Guild and getting the agreement of Lewena and Vielle, Rugged Path put his foot down and forced the Miqo'te boy into the care of the Arcanist Guild, knowing that the silver-eyed youth would take it as a betrayal. Feeling it his duty, he and the ladies joined up with the Maelstrom to fight against the Garleans with the stinging anger of his adopted son ringing in his ears. As Bahamut burst from Dalamud and knowing that he would not be making it back, Rugged Path took solace in the fact that he had kept his promise to Sadi and protected her son. DECEASED
Lewena Attilwood (Adpoted Family Member)- A bright cheerful Midlander Hyur who grew up in Gridania and joined the Conjurer's Guild early. She cared deeply for all of her friends and was a devoted healer. Tender and sweet, she and Vielle were a close pair. She was thrilled when Vielle returned from a patrol in the Black Shroud with a wide-eyed Keeper of the Moon who had obviously never been in a city as large or diverse as Gridania. The pair took it upon themselves to make Sadi comfortable and boost her confidence. She was the one who got to know Rugged Path as he was passing through the Twelveswood. Excited at the chance to see the world and help others, and with the idea that it would be something excited for little Sadi, she convinced Vielle to join her and they formed a small company that eventually became closer than any family Lewena had ever known before. After the loss of Sadi, Lewena did her best to dote on T'salmaveth without crowding the obviously stand-offish boy. She couldn't help herself, however, and T'sal had a few embarrassing moments in his childhood where her fun-loving teasing ended up with him dressed up where bows were involved. When the events of the Calamity began to approach, Lewena and Vielle agreed between the two of them that they would stay with Rugged Path and do what they could to protect the people they had grown to love dearer than life itself. DECEASED
Vielle Sondraix (Adopted Family Member)- A very easy-going and laid back, for an Elezen, lancer that was training to become a Wood Wailer, Vielle met and befriended a Midlander Hyur studying with the Conjurer's Guild. The two became fast friends and eventually companions that were nearly inseparable. Though several years older and more level-headed than Lewena, Vielle tended to spoil her partner as often as she could. Her chance meeting with Sadi while the Miqo'te girl was escaping her clan caught the Elezen's attention and she had a premonition that the chance meeting would change her fate for good or ill. Knowing Lewena's nature, she was hardly surprised when the Midlander leapt at the chance to help Sadi adapt to her new home. When Lewena brought Rugged Path to meet her she knew this was where her meeting with Sadi was leading her. She didn't argue with Lewena's desire to join the Roegadyn and bring Sadi along. Excusing herself from her training with the Wood Wailers, Vielle adopted her new roll as a traveling adventurer with gusto and a cool head. Where Rugged Path was the father figure of the company, Vielle was the level-headed mother figure. When Sadi died she took to comforting both Lewena and keeping an eye on T'salmaveth's education including taking time to drill him in some basic lance skills to keep him well rounded. She was a strong voice regarding his budding magic-abilities and the problems he was beginning to suffer in what she believed was the fluctuations in the flow of Aether. She agreed with Lewena's determination to go to the battlefield at Carteneau but deep down knew that it would be the final battle for their small family. DECEASED

History

Born in Limsa Lominsa to a Seeker of the Sun father and Keeper of the Moon mother. Both of his parents had left their clans at young ages for their own reasons, T’ehlat because he had no interest in staying with his tribe and dealing with the nunh-tia dynamics and Sadi because she deeply resented her grandmother who was the ruling matriarch of their small clan. Both joined small adventuring groups that ended up becoming rivals for jobs. The more they competed for work, the more the two got to know each other and eventually the rivalry developed into feelings of respect for each other and followed into love. The two companies found the relationship amusing and both celebrated the news when Sadi became pregnant. They agreed to name the child in honor of both of their traditions, taking his clan’s first letter and her name, thus T’salmaveth Sadi’a. T’ehlat and Sadi both agreed that they did not want the child to end up subjected to either clan they had worked hard to distance themselves from and T’ehlat pushed his company to take jobs with more pay, which led them into riskier and riskier situations. Shortly after his son was born, one of these jobs took a turn for the worse and T’ehlat was mortally wounded. He lasted long enough to be brought back to Limsa Limonsa where he died with Sadi by his bedside.
Sadi worked hard to not let the loss of her mate take away from her raising of their son. The surviving members of T’ehlat’s free company gave her the cut of their pay that T’ehlat was due and eventually went their own ways. Her own company, led by a Hellsguard Roegadyn named Rugged Path, rallied around their ‘little sister’ and her ‘cub’ and were very involved in the boy’s early years. When Sadi was killed on a mission by a torama, Rugged Path stepped up and produced papers that Sadi had left in trust with the company’s assets that formally left her son in his care, insurance that her child would not end up on the streets or sent to live with the Miqo’te clans. Rugged Path worried about the boy who had always been, too him, strangely calm and quiet from the start. With the death of both of his parents, he worried the boy would completely withdraw. He did his best to keep him as busy as he could while also taking free company jobs. T’sal threw himself into the tutoring, devouring his lessons and collecting books but never got close to any tutors or children his age. He avoided direct physical contact with most, though he never complained when Rugged Path or the others in the free company touched him. With Rugged Path’s pushing, he ran errands around the docks and learned the ins and outs of Limsa Lominsa’s gritty and pirate-filled streets. Nimble and quick-witted, he managed to avoid most trouble and Rugged Path’s looming presence squashed any of the more determined issues from bothering him too much. T’sal appeared to have a heavy distaste for other miqo’te, especially females, which Rugged Path felt was probably because of Sadi’s resentment of her own family and the Seeker Clan’s nunh-tia dynamic which she had never wanted her son to be part of. Whatever the case, T’sal went well out of his way to avoid other miqo’te when at all possible and was rudely distant and cold when he couldn’t.
Rugged Path was the first to notice T’sal’s growing agitation as he entered his late teenage years. At first he and the others chalked it up to the boy entering ‘that age’ but as events surrounding the beastmen tribes and the Primals began to get more and more heated, the Hellsguard got the uncomfortable feeling that there was more to it. In an attempt to distract the increasingly twitchy miqo’te lad, he went to a friend he had with the Arcanist Guild that worked customs in the Limsa Lominsa docks. They had been pushing Rugged Path for some time about his adopted son. With his exceptionally quick mind and sharp eyes, the lad had already assisted their work ferreting out contraband being smuggled into the city and several of the more senior members of the guild suspected the boy had a powerful, possibly dangerously deep connection to the natural Aetherflow which indicated he could be a prime candidate to join the guild. Rugged Path agreed, sure that this was a possible explanation of the lad’s growing agitation with the summoning of the Primals and the discord of the Garlean Empire’s movements regarding the moon Dalamud. Rugged Path made his decision shortly before the Grand Companies were called up to meet with the Garlean armies. As Dalamud had grown ever closer to Eorzea, T’sal had become more and more volatile to the point of starting physical fights and lashing out at those around him. Hoping they could help him, Rugged Path told T’sal he was to start his studies with the Arcanists while he and the rest of the small company joined with The Maelstrom to meet the Garlean army at Carteneau. T’sal rebelled and demanded to go with the company, which Rugged Path denied and physically carried the enraged 17 year old to the Arcanist Guild, requesting that they keep him there until he has cooled his head and the situation with Dalamud and the Garleans was dealt with. Rugged Path and T’sal did not part on good terms, and T’sal’s rage spurred him to cruelly disavow any feelings for the Hellsguard and refuse to wish any of them luck in the upcoming battle.
It only took a few days for him to escape the watchful eyes of the Arcanist Guild and he makes his way towards Carteneau, driven by something deep inside him and a desire to take back the hateful words he had said to possibly the only person he felt any kind of connection to. The Battle of Carteneau was met before he could reach the gathered armies and the awakening of Bahamut forever shattered any hope T’salmaveth had in seeing his adopted family again. Found by a small group of Maelstrom survivors from the battle crumpled at the base of a massive aetheryte crystal, T’sal was brought back to Limsa Lominsa in a near catatonic state, slipping in and out of delirious nightmares caused by what was assumed to be exposure to a very high concentration of raw aether for an extended period of time. Kept at the Arcanist Guild, it took months for him to recover enough to no longer need constant care. He remained locked within his rooms and showed absolutely no response to anyone, even when news was brought to him that Rugged Path had left all of the company assets to him on the chance that they did not return from the battle.
Almost a year after the events at Carteneau, a ranking member of the Arcanist Guild took the time to visit the set of rooms the miqo’te youth had been given. T’sal showed no interest in conversation, sitting at his window and staring up at the sky where Dalamud had once hung. He ignored any questions about what he planned to do, how long he intended to mope, or what it was he kept looking for out a window whose view never changed. It was only when the Arcanist bemoaned the state of the countries and wondered if the Garlean Empire might attempt to take advantage of the chaos to once again attack that T’sal turned his gaze from the sky and turned to look at the guild leader. He spoke, for possibly the first time since he recovered from the effects of whatever had happened to him outside of Carteneau, and his deep voice was flat, devoid of any emotions. Could an Arcanist do more than just sniff out contraband? Could they, perhaps, find a more... practical use for their abilities? And perhaps, he mused to the growing discomfort of the Arcanist, there was more to the abilities that had been lost to the past... Turning back to look out the window, T’sal mused on his own words while the other sat uncomfortably. Just as the door was about to close, the Arcanist heard T’sal chuckle slightly and shivered a bit. It wasn’t long after that the young miqo’te man began to move about once again. He emerged from his rooms and began to attend lessons and lectures in the guild, borrowing texts and observing practical lessons of other members interacting with their carbuncle companions...
T’salmaveth believes there is a way to bring peace back to the lands... the only real way is to utterly destroy the Garleans. Studying the Arcanist skills and mastering their ways, T’salmaveth seeks to find a means to reach back further, to find lost arts and powers beyond what is possible with simply calling upon carbuncle. T’salmaveth is beginning to become willing to interact and work with others as he studies, hoping to tap into forces that for so long only beastmen have tampered with, and that such powers will give him the means of reaching his goal; the destruction of the Garleans to the last.
