History

Tribe

The tribe Tamotsu belonged to was odd in the eyes of most Au ra. They specialized in trade. Where most other tribes stayed within Othard's mountains year round, Tamotsu's tribe made yearly voyages to the major cities and towns of Eorzea, trading extra pelts from hunting and oddities they've found while foraging and traveling. Anything from books to rusted swords assumed lost by former adventurers. They would trade these for supplies that made life easier and was hard to obtain in their normal environment. Anything that couldn't be traded was sold for gil. The traveling was also used to avoid the harshest part of the year, where food was often short and deaths were common. Though traveling also had its dangers. Attacks from bandits and wild animals weren't unheard of. The tribe chose a number of their best fighters to guard the caravan on its journey. Their equipment was usually found weapons and armor as well as pieces of gear they have traded for through the years.

Childhood and teenage years

Tamotsu had a typical life as a Xaela child. Early on he would assist his mother in gathering and was taught the tricks of hunting by the elders of the tribe. During the tribes yearly trading expeditions, Tamotsu would watch the the guards in awe while they practiced martial arts and sword play. Where ever they stopped he would find a branch and mimic the lancers. A few other Xaela children did this too but would fluidly gain and loose interest.

Once he reached the age of 15 he voiced his desire to guard the next caravan. To his joy the tribe elders accepted his wish and began training under the more experienced guards. With the caravan a few short weeks away, most were apprehensive as most guards have hunting experience and months of training. Guards scoffed at people who said this though since they are the few who knew about Tamotsu mimicking them when he was young. Before he knew it the caravan to their first destination, Gridania, was underway. Then came the realization that actually guarding the caravan was always one thing. Boring. With the tribes growing size most animals would look for easier pray and bandits, easier coin. Tamotsu's first rush of a fight was with a thief who attempted to steal some old pottery in the night. It wasn't the action packed life he imagined. The funnest thing he found about guarding was when they would reach a major city. While most were off doing business the caravan guards would converse with guards in and around the city, sharing stories of past fights and goofy tales of sylphs stealing from Ixali.

Acceptance to the Twin Adder

At 18, Tamotsu was tired of the life of a nomadic Xaela guard. Every year walk it was the same story. Walk the same route. Maybe fend off a wolf or two if he was lucky. Nothing interesting or different ever happened. It was time for a change. On a stop at Gridania he was able to convince a wood wailer whom of which he talked to for most of the caravans visits to recommend him as a recruit of the Twin Adder. The Twin Adder reluctantly accepted Tamotsu as a member of the area surveillance team only due to his vast experience on the various roads in Eorzea. The job was simple. Travel to various locations and record populations of native and invasive species, weather patterns, and any anomalies they come across.

The Battle of Carteneau

Being a Twin Adder soldier, Tamotsu participated in the Battle of Carteneau as a member of a flanking squad. His small squad was tasked with maneuvering the outskirts of the battle to take out a number of Magitek weapons, giving the main force an easier time punching through the Garlian defenses. The Adder commander under estimated the sheer number and scale of these mechanical constructs and Tamotsu's squad had to fall back out of battle, many taking serious injury. None without a scratch. This was likely the event that saved that squad from succumbing to the fall of Dalamud and being wiped out.

From Lancer to Dragoon

After the fall of Dalamud, weather in many areas began to change with almost every spot being scared in one way or another. The Twin Adder issued a full survey of Eorzea to study and find the cause of these patterns. Tamotsu's squad was tasked with the area effected most by the event, Coerthas. Lush green valleys and thriving forests seamlessly turned to a frozen wasteland. Days turned to weeks as the team researched precipitation patterns, temperature fluctuations, and how these effected the native species.

Early morning as the group was traveling between camp sites, Tamotsu's squad mate spotted smoke in the distance. Common but something was amiss. Hunters and soldiers knew better as to stir up black smoke, and those were the only ones out here that would make a fire. Upon seeing flickering lights through the trees Tamostu and his squad realized it was no camp sight, but a burning cottage with screeches coming from inside. Inside they found a older wealthy looking man cowering under the jaws of a dragon. Tamotsu's lance soon found its place deep inside the neck of the dragon, quickly ripping out as the dragon reared back causing the lance to cut through the scaly flesh.

After the man pulled himself up and out of the burning house, he explained that he was an Ishgardan aristocrat who assists in funding Ishgards projects. and beckoned the group to follow him. He lead them into Ishgard and to the presence of the Lord Commander who said they would be rewarded for their deed. He held the sack of gold above Tamotsu's outstretched hand stopped. Inspecting the dragon blood on the lance, the commander offered a proposal. Take the gold or train to become one of the elite Dragoon. Curious and even a bit excited, he accepted the offer. Tamotsu stayed in Ishgard for sometime while training under experienced Dragoons. The Ishgardian military allowed Tamotsu to return as a Gridanian soldier on the condition that he answer any summons the Holy See may request.

Personality

Holding a serious demeanor , first impressions make him seem introverted and cold. He holds realistic views over most subjects. Tamotsu opens up to joking and forms a sort of calmly goofy personality the more people are around him. Boredom sets in fast for Tamotsu as he is always looking for something new and exciting making him somewhat of a thrill seeker.
