Basics

Taryn is of tall-average height for a hyur and of fairly average build, being not particularly stocky nor overly thin. Appearance is as seen to the right; dark hair, dark green eyes and a tanned skin tone. He has a number of scars; one which is visible the lower right side of his jaw, the rest mostly to his torso and upper arms. Aside from those he also has a fairly distinct black tattoo on the left side of his face as can be seen in the image.

Personality

Taryn is generally a reserved, quiet individual who keeps his thoughts to himself. Though he can occasionally be seen frequenting taverns and other establishments he appears to prefer his own company or that of a few close friends over rowdy gatherings of strangers.

The midlander has a cautious, watchful nature; something learned from his experiences since since leaving Ul'dah. He tends to pay close attention to small details, a habit developed in recent times; much of which he has spent working as a security escort for trading caravans and individuals ever since leaving Ul'dah.

Taryn is also an almost obsessive collector of books and scrolls, mostly pertaining to the area of Magi-tek development, evidence of a fascination with the subject.

History

Though Taryn was born in the city of Gridania he and his family relocated to Ul'dah when he was roughly six years old. As a youth he learned the basics of his family's trade from his father though the Calamity prevented him from following through on that career. He is also known to have studied the art of thaumaturgy in Ul’dah and has some significant skill in the art.

In the aftermath of the Calamity he left Ul'dah with his surviving relatives, making for the city of Gridania where they have since remained. He stayed only a year in that city before leaving again to take up a different line of employment to the trade he would otherwise have inherited. After assisting his elder sister to lay the foundations of her own business in the city (which she now uses to support both herself and their mother) he left Gridania, spending several years working in a protection/security/mercenary capacity for a variety of employers before making his way to the city of Limsa Lominsa two years ago. He has remained there ever since working as a security guard for a small Magi-tek Research and Development company which was later absorbed by the growing XI:7.

Family

Taryn’s family reside in the city of Gridania where they returned from Ul'dah after the Calamity. His elder sister Alyssa runs her own business which his mother, Marianne, assists with. Taryn’s father and younger sister perished in the disaster. His family once ran a lucrative jewellery business in the city of Ul’dah prior to the Calamity, however the disaster all but demolished the vast majority of their holdings and decimated their finances.

Skills, Interests and Experience

Though born in Gridania Taryn spent most of his years growing up in the city of Ul'dah. He is relatively skilled in the art of thaumaturgy, having studied with the guild there for many years prior to the Calamity. After the disaster Taryn fell back on his experience with the art in order to survive without the money he had been accustomed too; taking up jobs escorting merchants and guarding caravans up until his arrival in the city of Limsa Lominsa two years ago. Since settling in Limsa Lominsa he has continued to make use of these combat orientated skills, filling security and protection roles within a number of small groups and companies in the city.

If the Calamity had not interrupted the course of things Taryn would have taken over the family’s jewellery business in Ul’dah. He learned the craft of goldsmithing from his father but the advent of the Calamity means that such skills have never been put too much use. To this date he has shown no interest in taking up his family’s trade or trying to resurrect the family business.
