Age 27
Birth date 12th Sun of the Fourth Umbral Moon 1550

Character

General

Nickname: Volt: Both his first and last name are longer, multi-syllable words. Growing up "Tha" sounded rather terrible, so he insisted on going by "Volt" until everyone used that, or his real name. He has no real preference to either.
Residence: While officially considered a citizen of Ul'dah, Thaseus is a wanderer through and through; following where work and booze will take him.
Religion: Follower of Nald'thal, the Trader. Thaseus is a gambler, and a risk taker. By some slightly twisted logic he believes that Nald'thal rewards risk with life, or death-- both of which, to him, are really just two sides of the same coin.
Marital Status: Quite single!

Appearance

Height: 6 fulms, 5 ilms
Weight: 255 ponz.
Body: While he is clearly in good shape, he isn't overly built; but well defined.
Complexion: Tanned skin, stemming from years spent under the hot sun in Ul'dah. He has a large, dark green pattern of random lines tattooed to the left side of his face. He has a few scars, like the one on his left cheek; but nothing from any major injuries.
Hair: Longer than some, but not going any further than top of his shirt collar. His hair goes from a light black to a dark grey; though naturally and not due to age. In addition, he keeps a rather full beard, which tends to fall on the blacker side of his hair color.
Eyes: A vibrant teal which tends to offset his otherwise darker and dull features.

History

The past!

Thaseus was born on the 12th Sun of the Fourth Umbral Moon, 1550... give or take. His actual birth date is a mystery even to him. From the time he could remember, he was an orphan. Clearly he wasn't always such, as he wouldn't have survived; but his parents had abandoned him very early in his life. By two he was living in an old woman's house in Ul'dah with others much like him. By six, the old woman whom had cared for him and others had passed away and left them alone, the house being confiscated shortly after.
Stealing to eat, working odd jobs for gil, and sleeping in garbage; he lived the life of a common street rat. He spent the days watching merchants haggle, gamblers win and lose everything, Gladiator fighting for life and glory, and darker things. Through it he learned the ins and outs of a dark adult world; one where information was power, and power was everything. To that end, he was able to teach himself to read and write; though he never developed either beyond a rudimentary level. While as a child, Thaseus regarded all these things as mere entertainment, they would eventually come to shape his outlook as an adult.
At age 13, Thaseus happened across a Conjurer making rounds, healing folks who could afford his prices. The Conjurer clearly was doing well for himself. People would come and beg for his assistance, and were more than willing to pay whatever price he gave them-- outrageous or not. To Thaseus, this was a skill worth having. He approached the Conjurer, and after a few days of nagging (and a little blackmail), he was able to get the man to teach him the basics in exchange for household chores. Thaseus was moderately talented, and by the time the man took his leave from Ul'dah, Thaseus was able to cure minor wounds entirely by himself. From there he took to using the ability in whatever way he could; helping friends, or making a quick gil.
By 16, Thaseus was making a living doing odd jobs using the various skills he had picked up in his youth; healing the sick (and wealthy...), acting as a bodyguard for merchants, or simply selling information. He often had run ins with the law, but never for anything serious enough to warrant much jail time. To protect himself he spent what he could afford, a bit at a time, to get sword lessons from retired Gladiators; giving him a strong foundation in the basics of sword play.
At age 17, with his first truly full coin pouch, he went to a traditional Highlander tattoo artist, and got the rather large tattoo on his face. He doesn't have clue what it means; but it was something interesting, and is now something rather permanent.

The present!

Now 27, he never quite moved past his old life. He still continues to live without a home, without a true occupation, and without much of anything to his name.

Personality

Thaseus learned three rules to life (as he sees it) growing up; and lives his life by those rules even today.
Rule 1: Keep friends close, and always do what you must to ensure their loyalty. Without other children he would have never had enough food to survive, or the skills he does today. Treat allies right, and they'll stand behind you-- mistreat them and you'll end up with a knife in your back.
Rule 2: Always keep your ear to the ground. Information is power, and without power you have nothing. Thaseus has seen many merchants, guards, nobles, and thieves alike live and die because of what they did or did not know.
Rule 3: Only those who take risks get to truly live. The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. The gambler who played bet more than he had, won more than he could spend. The Gladiator who took the offensive, and risked it all, lived while the cowards died.
Thaseus' childhood, and his 'rules of life' shaped him into a who he is today. He enjoys drinking, flirting, and fighting. Often sarcastic, and without a filter his mouth tends to get him into more trouble than necessary... and he relishes every minute of it. Almost every action he takes is purely for his own amusement, and he's never one to turn down a risky situation. Gambling is a huge part of his existence; whether it be with his life or simply gil. While his past keeps him connected with some of the seedier sides of life; he tends to lean more toward the side of good and honest action... provided it benefits him.
