Character

Tolivar Arctyrius (Tol-e-var Arc-teer-ee-us)

Biography

Tolivar was found, as an infant, huddled up in a hempen blanket beside the main road leading toward Quarrymill by a traveling merchant caravan. The merchants briefly took the kit into their care before they met with a rogue mercenary group in the city of Gridania. The band leader, a grand tall muscle-bound Roegadyn named Helthion Arctyrius whose skin a very deep grey complexion, solid black short-cut hair, and eyes almost glowing like the sun's light, spied the Miqo'te infant in the arms of an Elezen. Helthion inquired the nature of the kit but any known whereabouts of either the father or mother were unknown about. Deciding that the child's fate would be better gained under Helthion's guidance he offered to take the infant as his own child. Tolivar grew into a lively and wild child, being the sibling to Helthion's less than tactful sired son Galris. Galris resembled every physical feature to his Roegadyn father but lacked any sensibility and diligence. Tolivar came of age to lift and hold a short sword by his fifth year while his Roegadyn brother was going onto his tenth namesday as a young seasoned fighter. As Tolivar progressed into a stronger Miqo'te his natural born Seeker instincts conflicted to seek an influential role over the mercenary band. He often disputed into arguments and physical fights with his Roegadyn father to stake claim as the leading model. Helthion's strength alone was enough to disarm and restrain the rebellious Miqo'te adolescent. The mercenary band leader's patience was as unfathomable as his keen wit and knowledge. Helthion pushed Tolivar's strengths, weaknesses, and the Seeker's dominating qualities to their limits until Tolivar ultimately learned the hard-earned lessons and had come to respect his Roegadyn father anew, also learning the value of Helthion's teachings.

History/Timeline/Biography Cont.

By his 18th namesday Tolivar had become a fit fighter able to hold against his own father's strength, for a minimal amount of time of course. Undergoing the many exercises that were expected as a mercenary Tolivar was paired with his older half-brother Galris and sent out on survival training with the Roegadyn to a secluded landscape. Galris taught Tolivar the necessary skills to survive in the wild and more lessons on how to fight, however, Galris' was harsher pushing and relentless toward the Miqo'te until Tolivar collapsed from muscle exhaustion. Galris took the opportune, while Tolivar remained in a weakened state, to physically seduce the Miqo'te. This event stirred an uncanny fear of Roegadyn within Tolivar that he left the mercenary group becoming a vagabond. Tolivar joined with the Limsa Lominsa Maelstrom Grand Company for his own income and accepting mercenary work. Tolivar often returned to the port city to take up jobs and make exchanges for needed supplies in the local markets. He spied a peculiar Miqo'te whose dark eyes instantly sparked Tolivar's desire, however, the Seeker was reluctant to approach the other Miqo'te upon the first sighting. It was in Tolivar's best interest to frequent the Limsa Lominsa marketplace in hopes to find the Miqo'te whenever he could and out of desperate looking he accidently bumped into the Keeper. The Keeper inquired about Tolivar 'spying' which Tolivar bashfully explained his fascination with the Keeper's eyes. Tolivar came to know the Miqo'te Keeper and grew closer to Vil until inevitably into a romantic and physical relationship. Tolivar admired, desired, and loved Vil to no end and wanted to stay with the older Miqo'te. Tolivar's admiration grew upon meeting with Vil's children, the Seeker desiring to be part of the family. Vil proposed marriage, however, Tolivar was very hesitant about the idea that he returned to his father's camp inquiring advice from Helthion. Giving information that Tolivar was in a relationship with another male set the Roegadyn into a rage to the point of rendering Tolivar into unconsciousness. Tolivar returned, badly bruised, to Vil confessing that he still loved the Keeper but wasn't ready for a sealed relationship. Vil's children were loving and warming toward Tolivar that he secretly wanted to know what the love of a father was like and shyly approached Vil on the subject. Vil, overwhelmed with happiness, gave options that he and Tolivar could have a child together through a surrogate mother. Tolivar, still anxious on the idea of having his own child, finally accepted and thus through a female Miqo'te his son Ashkarian was born. Tolivar's overjoy was beyond any comprehension as he first held the infant in his arms knowing, at long last, true love as a father.

Tolivar continued his line of work as a mercenary for hire and taking the time to spare with the children growing to love them evermore but often returned to his Roegadyn father seeking advice and guidance. Helthion remained very opposed toward Tolivar's relationship with another man and demanded that Tolivar stop the relationship altogether. Helthion continued hounding on Tolivar until the Seeker, with a heavy heart, packed his belongings with his son and left Vil and his adoring children. Tolivar fought the tears that beckoned in his eyes and clung his son tightly into his arms as he thought of how much he was leaving behind; the love and warmth of the Keeper. Tolivar returned to his father's mercenary group, falling into a depressed state. Tolivar often left his son Ash in the care of the mercenaries as he continued to venture out seeking work for his own gil. Coming into the Gridanian Botanist's guild he found a Miqo'te that was excelled in the gathering trades. The Miqo'te Keeper's name was Rhaq'ir Molkoh. Tolivar grew intrigued by Rhaq'ir's kind and generous demeanor that he grew closer as he came to know the Keeper more and more until they were both in a physically-romantic relationship. Tolivar thoroughly enjoyed taking charge, as a Seeker would, of their physically-romantic relationship.

Tolivar returned to Gridania seeking employment for another mercenary job when he spied a Miqo'te and a Roegadyn standing together in the city square. The Miqo'te's attention was solely fixated on Tolivar's direction that Tolivar was hesitant to approach because of the sight of the Roegadyn. Fascinated with the mysterious Miqo'te's playful manner that Tolivar started playfully chasing the Miqo'te around the Roegadyn, paying no regard to the silent Roegadyn. The Keeper introduced himself as Morgan Sutherland and the Roegadyn was named Kazuhiro Williams. Morgan extended an invite to Tolivar to come for a house-warming party. Tolivar gladly accepted and was able to get to know both Morgan and Kazuhiro, however, still wary of the Roegadyn. The Miqo'te Seeker and Kazuhiro were able to get to know each other one-on-one gradually allowing Tolivar to overcome his fear of the Roegadyn race, eventually their friendship evolving into a physical relationship. An internal conflict developed within the Miqo'te Seeker, having being in an intimate relationship with Rhaq'ir and being in a physical relationship with the Roegadyn, that Tolivar thought it best to introduce both his love interest and his Roegadyn partner to meet each other telling the two of them the truth. He had been relieved that the Keeper and Kazuhiro were able to accept each other. The trio's friendship blossomed into a physically-romantic relationship. Tolivar loved both Rhaq'ir and Kazuhiro but choosing one over the other as a life partner came to a difficult decision. Tolivar proposed marriage to Rhaq'ir seeking the Keeper's hand in marriage. Kazuhiro, sad but gladly accepted, wed the two Miqo'te in a private ceremony under the red glowing light of the flora in Costa Del Sol. Both Tolivar and his husband agreed to have an open marriage granting them to have no qualms remaining in a lasting relationship with the Roegadyn. Rhaq'ir often seemed troubled but had not directly confronted Tolivar about it until Tolivar pressed on the issue. The Keeper had heard recent rumors that his birth mother was alive. Tolivar pulled information resources from other groups of mercenaries, that were in good graces with Helthion's leadership, to find Rhaq'ir's mother's location. Tolivar and Rhaq'ir set out together to search for the Keeper's birth mother, however, finding a notorious powerful monster blocking their path. Both Miqo'tes banded together with a group of strong warriors to swiftly claim victory over the vicious creature. Rhaq'ir and Tolivar found the body of a Keeper Miqo'te paladin badly wounded and near to death lying in the murky waters. Her body had been severely clawed which Tolivar presumed that she was attacked by the notorious beast. Tolivar prompted his triage skills to mend the Miqo'te in order to stabilize the Keeper long enough until both Rhaq'ir and Tolivar could bring the unconscious woman to a physician. Rhaq'ir's hopes had finally been brought to realization after coming to find out that the paladin was indeed his birth mother Rhana Molkoh.

Tolivar felt guilty that he had not entrusted Rhaq'ir and Kazuhiro the truth that the Seeker had a son, thus taking it upon himself to bring his husband and his dear Roegadyn friend to Little Ala Mhigo. Rhaq'ir and Kazuhiro immediately warmed up to the Seeker kit. Tolivar's son, Ash, became a very thrilled kitten upon seeing his father along with the newcomers; Rhaq'ir and Kazuhiro. Tolivar brought his son with him as he traveled with Kazuhiro and Rhaq'ir returning to their Free Company estate. The Seeker, feeling heavy-hearted, left his son in Rhaq'ir's, Kazuhiro's, and Rhana's care as he explained that he had accepted a high risk mercenary job traversing further north beyond the Coerthes lands towards the gates of Ishgard. The Miqo'te Seeker would be given direction to protect a group of merchant caravans from any possible threats, however, Tolivar's worst fears were made possible. The day of the escorting the caravans were ambushed by a mob of fierce dragons whom attacked with unforgiving vengeance; spewing flames hastily setting the wagons ablaze and onset to fatally barrage the mercenaries with deadly strikes. Tolivar could only remember waking up from the moments of the dragons' surprise attack laying under dimmed torchlight. A feminine warrior approached, in Ishgardian garb, and explained that Tolivar was one of the few who remained alive and was brought to one of the Ishgardian temples. The female Miqo'te introduced herself as the War Priestess Asitania Kynarum. The holy temple permitted no outsiders and had made Tolivar the only exception based upon the injuries he sustained. Tolivar desperately wanted to return to his husband and his Roegadyn friend to relay the information that he was alive but the infliction of poison into the Seeker's bloodstream prevented the wounded Miqo'te from a swift recovery. Often more than not the weakened Miqo'te climbed out of bed to practice sword play in order to regain his lost strength. However, the Seeker's sword practice caused wounds to reopen further reducing Tolivar's time of recovery. During the few months spent in the Ishgardian temple Tolivar conversed with Asitania telling the female Keeper about how much he missed his husband and all of his friends. Asitania suggested that she would relay the information to Tolivar's loved ones and set out to find Rhaq'ir, Kazuhiro, and all of Tolivar's friends based on the detailed descriptions and whereabouts Tolivar described. The Miqo'te Seeker waited, in anticipation, for Asitania's return to receive the good news. His husband, Rhaq'ir, had undergone on his own journey to look for the Ishgardian temple to find Tolivar.

Once Tolivar's strength was sufficient, that he was able to remain standing on his own, Asitania offered to protect the Seeker and make the journey back to the main lands with the Seeker. Upon arriving, Asitania made the first approach to the converted paladin. Rhaq'ir bore dark-colored armor and a presence that Tolivar no longer recognized. Tolivar reluctantly approached but upon seeing the Keeper's spark of hope stir once more Tolivar quickly came forward and embraced his husband earnestly. Rhaq'ir happily scooped the Seeker into his arms to carry Tolivar into their Free Company estate where the Seeker's son had awaited patiently for his father's return. Rhana, Rhaq'ir's mother, explained that she had been the one who took care of the kit. The joyous reunion was short-lived as Rhaq'ir pulled Tolivar aside into a room for the two of them to be alone together. Rhaq'ir explained that he had taken up a line of work as a bodyguard and met with one of the individuals he was charged to protect; an Au Ra woman. The Keeper told Tolivar of his exploits in the time that was spent with the Au Ra and getting to know her as Sayori Ishikawa. The Miqo'te Seeker believed this series of news to be a jest but Rhaq'ir was adamant that he had fallen in love with the Au Ra woman. Filled with confused rage Tolivar swiftly left the room with tears beckoning in his eyes. He quickly scooped up his infant son, packing all of what belongings he brought, and signed a documentation to end his marriage with Rhaq'ir.

Tolivar returned to Little Ala Mhigo to his father's mercenary camp. The Roegadyn welcomed the sight of his grandson with a warm embrace, however, scolded Tolivar bitterly. The Miqo'te Seeker explained his prolonged absence and the recent events about Rhaq'ir. Helthion granted his son to rejoin the mercenary group provided that Tolivar retrained to fight in order for the Miqo'te to regain his lost strength. The Seeker left the care of Ash to the Roegadyn band leader as Tolivar traveled back to Gridania to confront Rhaq'ir. The Miqo'te Seeker found Rhaq'ir arm-in-arm with a female Au Ra. Tolivar, Rhaq'ir, and Sayori took their conversations to a secluded area which gave Tolivar the opportunity to directly convey his anger toward Rhaq'ir. Tolivar avoided, at all possible, from misdirecting his rage toward Sayori in terms of ignoring her. In the end Tolivar slid off his wedding band and threw it to the Keeper's feet ensuing the last of their relationship. The heart-broken Miqo'te had gone to The Roost, the Gridanian inn, and drown his sorrows into the strongest alcohol until he was no longer permitted to drink anymore. Tolivar fumbled out of the inn and let his drunken-stupor state take him through the streets of Gridania. The sun's rays were long gone bringing on a night sky filled by moonlight. Tolivar's mind swam in a current of confused emotions as his wobbling legs guided him up a lonely path to one of the ponds built within the city. A silver shimmer quickly attracted Tolivar's blurry haze and he stumbled into the pond where the silver shimmer sat alone. The Seeker's sight reluctantly focused as the silver shimmer took shape into a snowy white-colored Miqo'te whose hair shined from the moon's light. Tolivar had not realized that the Miqo'te was bathing in the pond and concluded that the Miqo'te was; "A star that fell from the sky." Tolivar slumped into the pond water, submerging his body and head. The pale Miqo'te quickly helped to lift and hold Tolivar's head above the water. The quiet Miqo'te let Tolivar rest his head upon the young Miqo'te's lap. Tolivar's drunken haze slowly cleared and he was able to hold a conversation without slurring. The Miqo'te Keeper's name was Ciel Winterborn. Tolivar listened to Ciel's story being thrown out from his clan's tribe for being the runt of the family. The Keeper sought refuge among a rich couple but treated as poorly as an unwanted pet. The Seeker paid for food and drink as he continued to listen to Ciel's story. Tolivar reminded himself of how big of a fool he was that an orphan be left to starve while the Seeker throws down coin for alcoholic beverages to drown his own self-pitiful sorrows. Tolivar spent the night with Ciel, in one of the rooms at the inn, to get to know the Keeper in privacy finding that Ciel never had experience in a romantic relationship. Tolivar opened himself up to the Keeper explaining about his previous relationships and came out with the truth that he also had a son. The next morning Miqo'te Seeker affirmed to return to Little Ala Mhigo with Ciel to take care of the young Miqo'te giving Ciel a place to finally call home. Helthion was the first and only one to approach Tolivar and Ciel with an abrasive disposition in regards to Tolivar's interest in only men, nevertheless, the Roegadyn confidentially respected his Miqo'te's son's wishes leaving Tolivar to his own to take care of the Keeper. Ash, one and a half years old at this point, enthusiastically accepted Ciel and embraced the Keeper with loving nuzzles.

In recent events Tolivar maintains an extra side of work from the Maelstrom command, and also any additional mercenary for hire jobs, for coin. Upon his return to The Roost, at Gridania, he met with his long dear friend Kazuhiro Williams. The two prior lovers met with an open embrace holding onto each other as if they had been forever torn apart. The Seeker told of his exploits explaining his prolonged absence in recovery at an Ishgardian temple and recent events leading to his divorce with Rhaq'ir Molkoh and finding the abandoned Keeper Ciel Winterborn. Kazuhiro, likewise, exchanged his stories that he bore a son from a woman named Alice. The child, being half Roegadyn and Miqo'te, was given the name Wandering Mountain. The Roegadyn became engaged to and married with a male Miqo'te Keeper named Keno Mizhu. Tolivar was both astonished and happy for his friend, however, the Miqo'te Seeker felt crushed that he could not attend Kazuhiro's wedding. The Miqo'te agreed to continue meeting with Kazuhiro and made arrangements to bring his own son, Ash, to greet with the Roegadyn's child.

Tolivar settled down into a loving and lasting relationship with Ciel at Little Ala Mhigo and remained together for their remaining years. The two Miqo'tes raised Ash together and lived happily ever after.
