Appearance

Keten's violet eyes are often described as one of her most striking features, a rare trait among Seekers. Her nose is small and delicately upturned, her lips full and possessing a slight pout. Her skin is lightly tanned, smooth save for some small scars on her face and large scars across her back. She is overall small of stature and frame, lending her a delicate and graceful appearance. She wears her blonde hair long, as her master prefers it, and it possesses a gentle, natural waviness. Her tail is particularly fluffy, despite anyone's best efforts to smooth it, and long, incorporating regularly into her dance routine as it twirls about her.

History

Long before she was Keten Satza, she was Ur'konnala Rahz, the daughter of an exile. Before she was born, her father, Rahz Tia, challenged the Nunh of the U' tribe at the time for leadership of the tribe, primarily disputing the tribe's isolationist tendencies. He lost the battle, but refused to back down on his stance, and ultimately gathered a small group of loyal females and left the tribe, striking out on his own. Thus, the scrappy and unfortunately ill-fated Ur' tribe was born. They found a small oasis in the Sagolii desert and built a camp that would grow over the years to become a modest settlement. It was there that Keten was born as Konnala, and spent her early years living a harsh but relatively happy childhood.

That all changed, however, during Keten's 12th summer. The settlement had been struggling for some years, thanks to a small initial population, and as food become harder and harder to come by, and disease frequently swept through the camp, many members defected back to the U' tribe. Their numbers had dwindled to a few dozen when a marauding party of Amalj'aa ambushed the outpost one night, killing a few and capturing as many as they could. Keten and several of her family were locked in tiny cages, and were carried along on the arduous trek to the nearest shoreline. There, they were sold as slaves to passing pirates.

Keten's memory of her life begins at age 12, at that point already a slave, aboard a Roegadyn pirate ship. She was tasked with basic menial duties, cleaning the ship, helping prepare meals, and the like. Though a slave, her captors treated her well enough, and in her free time, she enjoyed dancing, learning technique from a fellow captured Miqo girl, taken during a raid on Costa del Sol. At this point, the Skaetkoen was merely another member of the crew, a young and able Roe, assumed to be just as loyal and lacking in ambition as his brethren.

This turned out to be a dangerous assumption, as during the summer of Keten's 16th year, the Skaetkoen revealed his true colors, and, using powerful void magic he had been secretly studying, quickly and violently overthrew the captain and those loyal to him. Taking command, he declared himself the new leader, and detailed his plan to obtain more power and influence in the criminal underworld. Piracy as they knew it was dying, he said, and they needed to relocate operations to Ul'dah, where true power and wealth was exchanged. So an arduous trek was made, along which Keten was forced, hefting a portion of their ill-gotten loot.

Once they had reached and established themselves in Ul'dah, the Skaetkoen took on the persona of the 'King of Shadows,' and quickly began to climb the criminal ladder. His empire growing, he considered Keten seriously for the first time, and realized he could put her to good use. Again calling on the powers of the Void, he wiped away her memory of anything before her 12th year, including any memories of her family, and even her own name. It was then that she became Keten Satza, or "Chained Dancer" in the old Roegadyn tongue. He attached a collar around her neck and sealed it with dark magic, which she wears to this day, unable to be removed by any conventional means.

The Skaetkoen's magical manipulation of Keten's mind resulted in her eyes developing the purple hue they now possess, and his fascination with her grew in turn, as his eyes too were colored by the Void. She quickly became his favorite among his slaves, and she was present as entertainment for most meetings with important guests.

Personality

As a child, Keten possessed all the typical, expected traits of a young Seeker. She was naturally curious and unendingly playful and energetic, often wearing out her peers with her antics. Despite the hardships that life on the settlement brought, she remained optimistic, and other tribe members would look to her on many an occasion to help brighten their spirits. She was also fiercely independent, fighting back against anyone who tried to dampen her adventurer's spirit.

That all changed when the Skaetkoen wiped her memory. With no recollection of her life before slavery, she was easily molded into a subservient, meek addition to his collection. She never dared speak or act in protest to her master, nor even dream of escape to freedom.
