The Beginning……
A young Versillis was bounding across an open field. She kept looking over her shoulder as her breathing came out sharp, she could hear the sound of her own heartbeat as she moved first one way then the other before spotting a tree. Making a mad dash; she dove suddenly against the base of the tree, backing up as far as she could and laying flat on her stomach. She watched as a group of male Viera ran past; whooping and hollering as they went. One smaller male Viera seemed to pause, looking around before seemingly disappearing. Versillis lifted her head, wiggling forward a bit as she looked around, her nose turned up a bit as she sniffed the air around her.
"Gotcha!" The small Viera that had seemed to have left, jumped out of nowhere to pounce on Versillis; rolling her in the dirt and grass.
"No fair Valren! How did you know I was there?" Versillis narrowed her eyes as she looked up at the male who had landed on top of her.
Valren smirked as he made to stand up; pushing his hair out of his face and brushing the dirt off his pants. "I could smell you from a mile away little bird. Surprised the other fellas couldn't"
Growling slightly; Versillis sprang to her feet throwing a punch that connected at Valren's arm "Hey! I took a bath two days ago."
Valren chuckled as she mockingly rubbed his arm. "Ow, hey now don't shoot the messenger." His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked off into the distance, sniffing at the air as he did. "We best be going home before your parents kill me for keeping you out late."
Reaching up to tug on one of her ears she scowled "Screw them, they wouldn't notice if I was gone just a bit longer" Regardless; she made to make her way off towards the village with a smirk in Valren's direction.
The Middle……
Versillis cupped a hand just above her eyes as she looked towards the sky. A fleet of airships roared overhead causing her to smirk slightly. As she watched them trail off into the distance, she heard the sound of her father's voice coming from the distance. "Versi, you best be bringing that wood now, this table won't make without it." Groaning she hiked the wood up as she made her way to her father's shop with a glare. Setting the wood into the sled built for it, she turned to lean against the wall. Her nose wiggled slightly as the smell of the sawdust reached it; she looked to her father's back watching him work with his chisel and hammer to make intricate details on the tabletop he had been working on. "Father...I just saw some airships overhead; where do you think they are going?" Her father's hand stopped briefly as he gave a deep sigh. "Versi; how many times have I told you to keep your nose out of the air and pay attention to our craft? Those airships have brought nothing but trouble so hopefully they are leaving these lands and taking their trouble elsewhere."
Versillis frowned as she rolled her eyes behind her father's back. "Curiosity never hurt or so you told me." Gorbin turned to face his daughter. "Do not use my words against me young lady, there are things in this world that your mother and I have tried to protect you from. You will someday inherit my tools and have to pick up your family's trade. Hopefully you will find a nice Viera to settle down with and will carry on our craft. Curiosity can wait my child." He moved to give her a gentle pat before motioning towards the door. "Why don't you see if your mother needs some help at the house?"
Offering a slight smile; Versillis nodded a bit before making her way towards their home; though she did look off into the distance to watch the airships; now just mere specks on the horizon.
The Present…..
The buzz of the crew swirled around her as she grabbed a wrench; cussing under her breath as she tightened a gasket on the engine she was trying to repair. Using the back of her hand; she wiped her forehead, perking at the sound of her name. Turning to face the sound of the voice she came face to face with Ramji; a male Miquote with a boyish grin. "Versillis, the captain is looking for you and wants to know when the repairs will be done so we can leave port." Grinning back, she wiggled her wrench in his direction, "Do you realize how hard this work is? While you get to cook and take care of the kitchen, I am stuck down here in the damn heat of the engine room alone." Ramji chuckled with a shake of her head "You like it, and you know it, anyways you need to go topside and meet with the captain. Oh...and before you do; you may want to wash your face." He motioned to the streak of grease that decorated her forehead before turning to dash off back to the kitchen.
Setting down her tools, she straightened up, pulling a rag from her back pocket to quickly wipe off the grease she had left behind. Turning she climbed the ladder to the topside; the warm breeze hit her face and picked up her fur to ruffle it as though playing with it. Crew members ran back and forth across the deck dashing here and there as she came to stand on the deck. Breathing deep she made her way to where the Captain leaned against one of the railings speaking as she approached. "Captain, Ramji told me you wanted to speak with me, the repairs will be done shortly but at next port we may want to pick up some more oil and maybe a few new gaskets just to be safe." She watched as the Roe male turned to eye her with a curt nod. "If that is what you need then it shall be done, I actually wanted to speak to you about a job that we may need you for in Ul'Dah which is out next stop. I'll give you the details once we are airborne once again, hurry with the repairs but make them sturdy." He offered her a salute before turning to yell at a a crewmate. Blinking she made her way back to the engine room, questions raced through her mind as she picked up her wrench. She had never been asked to partake in a job before.
