Idealistic and timid, Varth Vahan seems to find himself in situations where he genuinely meant well, but nonetheless ends up on the wrong side of someone's sword. It'd be unfair to say that trouble follows him -- more accurately, Varth doesn't realize he was walking right into a problem until it's too late.

He can generally be seen around cities, particularly Ul'dah, disliking being far from civilization unless he has a good reason to be.

Personality

It doesn't take much to get Varth's anxious imagination running. Even if he tells himself that an outlandish ghost story can't possibly be true, there'll be a nagging doubt in the back of his head that there's at least some truth to the tale. The slightest hints of negativity from someone else can get him worried that he did something wrong, or that he's otherwise heading towards a bad situation. When he gets especially nervous, he'll start to ramble and chatter in an attempt to defuse the situation. This, unfortunately, sometimes results in him causing problems where there were none with his assumptions, or he may say something that makes things even worse.

Varth rarely stands up for himself, not really arguing against someone insulting him (though it'll make him sad). In such scenarios, he usually just quietly takes the abuse and doesn't speak out against it. He does, however, get fired up when someone else's well-being is on the line. He has a strong sense of justice that is at odds with how normally timid he is. Someone who has only seen him behave timidly may be surprised by just how angry he gets when someone else is hurt.

When he's comfortable around someone, Varth still remains rather timid, but he's generally sociable without shooting his mouth as he does when he's nervous. One of his favorite things to do is listen to others' stories, though even when it's fictional or just a joke, he doesn't like tales where it comes at someone else's expense, unless that someone was irredeemably horrible. Even then, Varth's sense of morality is easily swayed by his emotions. He could be persuaded fairly easily that someone had good reasons justifying their horrible actions. Any evidence of humanity is enough to make Varth doubt that someone is truly terrible. He prefers to believe that people are generally good but are sometimes forced into bad circumstances.
