A lowborn knight of Ishgard, Victoire Vaillancourt lost both of her parents to dragons before she came of age. Seeking vengeance, she made it her life's goal to become a dragoon and, after some success in dragonslaying among the Convictors, she was accepted into the Temple Knights. From there, she established herself as a skilled lancer, and was eventually accepted into the Order of the Knights Dragoon.

After the Calamity, Victoire was involved in an incident that saw her accused of conspiring with heretics. Though she won her right to life through trial by combat, she was exiled from her homeland and forced to seek refuge in Gridania. She became an adventurer, and spent five years traveling the realm until her homeland called for aid. Though she was an outcast, she fought the Dravanian Horde, and helped herald a new age for Ishgard.

Friends and Acquaintances

Camille Celestaux

Camille is a young Gridanian noble who employs Victoire as a housemaid. Nearly a century ago, Victoire's great-grandfather saved Camille's during the Autumn War, and it was with this in mind that she was invited to work after her exile from Ishgard. Camille often ventures away from his duties to apprentice under Victoire as an adventurer and each is the other's closest friend and confidant.

Raimondaux Brapione

A somewhat cowardly Temple Knight who often boasts of dragonslaying in an attempt to intimidate possible enemies. Victoire encountered Raimondaux when she returned to Ishgard following her exile, and found an unlikely friend in the good-natured knight.

Enemies

Dravanian Horde

The perennial enemy of Ishgard, Victoire has fought Nidhogg's brood since her career as a knight began. Though they have largely scattered in the wake of their sire's demise, remnants of the Dravanian Horde are still among Victoire's most hated foes.

Ishgardian Heretics

Victoire fought many of these human worshippers of dragons during her tenure as a dragoon. However, following her capture by the heretics at Snowcloak early in the Seventh Umbral Era, she was accused of heresy herself. In troth, Victoire has never been a friend to the heretics, and that fact has not changed despite the recent revelations about Ishgard's history.

Ser Ignasse de Vesnaint

Ser Ignasse of the Dragon's Tail was a member of the Order of the Knights Dragoon whom Victoire looked up to and occasionally trained with during her tenure as a knight. However, when she was accused of consorting with heretics and drinking dragon's blood, she was forced to fight this Ward Knight in a trial by combat. Ser Ignasse perished in Azys Lla with the other members of the Heavens' Ward.

Garlean Empire

While the Empire poses a threat to all the realm, Ishgard's isolationism prevented Victoire from ever needing to oppose. She first encountered imperials in the Black Shroud, and later as part of the Twin Adder's assault on Castrum Centri. More recently, she supported Rhalgr's Beacon, the effort to liberate Ala Mhigo from imperial occupation.

Coeurlclaw Poachers

A notorious group of Keeper of the Moon poachers. Victoire ran afoul the group when she helped slay Yabi Two-tails, one of their leaders, in the South Shroud.

Redbelly Wasps

Duskwight bandits based out of South Shroud, Victoire aided in the Wood Wailers' efforts to reclaim the hamlet of Boughbury from the Wasps.

Lambs of Dalamud

Victoire first encountered the fanatical worshippers of the lesser moon in the South Shroud near Snakemolt. Well-known for their use of occult magicks and invocations of the void, she rescued captured villagers of Quarrymill from becoming sacrifices in one of their foul rituals.

Ixal

These beastmen based out of Xelphatol harry Gridania and, though present in Coerthas, were ignored by the Holy See. Victoire helped repel an Ixali ambush during her arrival to the Black Shroud, and also aided the Gridanians in assaulting them at Proud Creek.

True Brothers of the Faith

After the death of Archbishop Thordan VII, Ser Aymeric de Borel became acting leader of Ishgard. In response to his efforts to reform the nation that man and dragon might coexist harmonously, the True Brothers of the Faith attempted several brazen acts of terrorism. While the movement has largely gone into hiding, Victoire has clashed with these extremists on more than one occasion.

Affiliations

Adventurers' Guild

Victoire is registered with the Adventurers' Guild to undertake training at the various guilds across Eorzea and accept tasks such as guildleves and guildhests.

Clan Centurio

A ragtag group of glory hunters and mercenaries, Victoire joined Clan Centurio in pursuit of more dangerous game.

Order of the Knights Dragoon (formerly)

Victoire was once a member of the Knights Dragoon, the elite dragonslayers of Ishgard.

Biography

The Lowborn Knight

Born to a lowborn family in Ishgard, Victoire's mother Claire died shortly after giving birth to her. Her father, Valeriant, joined the Temple Knights to build a better future for his daughter. As a young woman, Victoire's main interests lay in chocobo riding and husbandry, and she spent many hours tending to her father's chocobo, Valorous. She also enjoyed reading and writing in her spare time, her literacy on par with even her highborn peers. When Victoire was fourteen, Ishgard withdrew from the Eorzean Alliance and Ser Valeriant was sent from the city to aid in the Dragonsong War. It didn't take long before word of his death reached her ears, slain by Dravanian fang and claw. Before long, Victoire could only think of avenging her fallen sire, and enlisted in the Temple Knights at the age of fifteen. Her goal was to join the Order of the Knights Dragoon, and eventually prove herself worthy of the title of Azure Dragoon.

Through constant training and practice, she established herself as a rising star within the Congregation. She upheld justice in Foundation strictly yet fairly, favoring neither lowborn or highborn but seeking to honor the letter of the law. She was ultimately uninterested in her role as law enforcement and string of tournament victories swiftly saw Victoire moved to the battlefield against the Dravanian Horde. There, she slew her first dragon during an attack on Falcon's Nest. Before long, Victoire had amassed a string of dragon kills, largely aevises. In 1565, she solidified her reputation as a dragonslayer when she led a group of Temple Knights to slay a dragon terrorizing chocobo grazing pastures, rescuing a number of livestock. They weakened the beast using a ballista, and she climbed its body and felled it with her own lance. After several recommendations sent by her superiors, she finally received an invitation to join the Knights Dragoon.
