♦ General
Vorlaix Valeroyant is a noble from the once prestigious House Valeroyant. Descended from the legendary Saint Valeroyant, much of Vorlaix's early life was spent as a Dragoon on the frontlines. He was known to have participated in many sorties into Dravania during this time.
Vorlaix's noble blood extends into two Houses, however. Though he has the namesake of Valeroyant, his mother was birthed of Fortemps blood. Lady Elise Fortemps was married into House Valeroyant, bonding the two Houses as family. Lord Drandaire Valeroyant, Vorlaix's father, was a Holy Dragoon of Ishgard, well on his way to potentially becoming the Azure Dragoon, before his unfortunate demise roughly 6 years ago. Lady Elise passed not long after, falling ill as her love of life faded with her husband's passing.
Roughly 10 years ago, Vorlaix suffered an injury that he still, to this day, has yet to fully recover from. Gored by a powerful dragon, and left for dead, Vorlaix Valeroyant's tale would have ended there, if not for the fateful meeting of the woman who became his wife. Alise nursed Vorlaix back to health, though his leaping ability was hampered significantly. It was not long after he recovered enough to move again, that he married Alise, and started a family, having two children Celesie and Haromont.
Alas, the fates had other plans in store for his family... Having retired and becoming a hunter for the small Coerthan village he had come to call home, he made numerous forays into the fields to gather food. Whilst out, a subversive heretic snuck into the village, activating a forbidden artifact to transform himself into a Dravanian. The winged beast destroyed and devoured the village, including his family. By the time Vorlaix had run back, the beast was flying off into the horizon.
Left shattered, Vorlaix tried with all his heart to rebuild his home, at the very least, as a reminder of his lost family. Unbeknownst to him, however, tragic events were taking place in Eorzea. Before he could complete the reconstruction, Dalamud fell, unleashing the Calamity. The waves of ice and snow destroyed what little remained on his village... and the graves of his family. Fleeing to Ishgard, Vorlaix took up the blade, and joined the Temple Knights to exact his revenge upon Dravania.
Ay the years passed, Vorlaix's ability to find heretics and punish them was widely praised, gaining the attention of the Halonic Inquisitory Doctrine. He was approached roughly one year ago, and appointed the position of Inquisitor. Using his newfound influence, he did all he could to prevent the tragedy he had to live through from happening to anyone else.
The recent revelations announced by Ser Aymeric shook Ishgard to its core, including Vorlaix. He had always been loyal to Ser Aymeric, and refused to believe he would make up such serious things. He took council with Ser Aymeric, agreeing to refocus his goals. If Ishgard were to survive, the Dragonsong war would need a definitive end... and the easiest way at this point... would be through peace.
♦ Appearance
Vorlaix Valeroyant stands quite tall for an Elezen, towering over your average citizen. His skin is quite pale, and his hair is a deep raven black. His eyes are a striking crimson hue. Upon his face, he has two scars, "gifts" from his time as a Dragoon.
He is typically seen in his deep crimson armor, which is meticulously polished and engraved. When seen without his armor, his body is shown to have countless scars covering it, from burns, to bites, to claw marks, and stabs.
♦ Behaviour
Vorlaix Valeroyant is a noble man, typically quite refined in his mannerisms as well as very polite. He is never one to hold prejudice over another, at least not anymore. He is also a deep romantic, treating women with even more respect than others... something he inherited from his father. He is, however, happily married. Sorry ladies.
This all changes, however, if you are found to be a target of his, by order of the Halonic Orthodox. While his focus has shifted from heretics, which he does not persecute anymore due to recent events, to corrupt members of the Orthodox itself and followers of Nidhogg, his passion for such things has not diminished. Should he get them alone for interrogation, they would see a far different side of Vorlaix. One of vengenance and supreme skill in torture.
