Name and Lifestyle
Name Etymology
- Derivative of Raniya, Arabic for 'to gaze'.
- Her father's name, Yahn, is also an Arabic derivative from John, interpreted here as 'prophet.'

Biography
Birth and childhood (0-10)
- Rania was born the eldest of many children in her family, the firstborn of W'yahn Nunh and W'naidjaa Raha. Her formative life was fairly standard, until the deposition of her father when she was 4. He was defeated in combat by W'khai, who became Nunh by right of victory. As the daughter of a deposed Nunh, but the daughter of the new Nunh's favourite mate, she was given political status, as she was considered ill suited for breeding with the new Nunh's eventual children, but needed a place in the tribe as all children do.
- She was taught all the circumstance, class and manner of the known societies, and was very much bred as a debutante, with the intention of making her an ambassador of her tribe - someone important, but ultimately disposable should an accident occur. She was schooled in the use of a lyre and flute, and therefore gained the slightest grasp of musical theory. She once knew all the circumstance and formality of the Ishgardian Tea Party, but has forgotten most of that schooling due to lack of practice.
- This lack of practice stemmed from two sources; one, from her own lack of interest in her given career, and the second from political fallout. Due to the resentment of being defeated in combat W'yahn attempted to kill his successor, and was caught. Because of the dishonor that such a crime entailed, Yahn (and all his children) were removed from any status-holding positions, fearing a coup. Hence at 14, Rania was cast into the 'general population' of the tribe with zero purpose, and ten years of political pomp understandably useless in real life.
Teen Years
- Rania at this point was a mild tempered and lively girl, and this upset of her life (Particularly at such an age) sparked a change in her, making her rebellious, mouthy and sour. She repeatedly snuck out of her father's house to hang out with the 'badboy' Tias, learning how to shoot a bow and throw a punch. She continued in this way until she was 18, when Khai was overthrown by W'yue, Reina's father, and her life changed again. She was given a choice: To return to her former life as a political pet, take her place among the women of his new tribe, or leave. With the four years of being practically a street rat behind her, she chose to leave, taking up employment with a military Free Company in Uldah, learning basic tactics and furthering her archery training.
Adulthood
- While life with the company was well paid, it was far too militant, and because she was a small female, and particularly because she was a Miqote, she was relentlessly attacked and harassed, so she took a more human name to fit in better, and it stuck: Alyra Sphinxfalcon. However, changing her hair and name was not enough, and the endless abuse was enough to make her go AWOL, and seek something familiar, which she found in her youngest sister Reina and her then-Free Company, the Kindred.
Present
- Her time there was short however, choosing to follow those who quickly became her friends to the Vanguard when it became obvious to her opinion that the Kindred was a sinking ship and a shell of its former self. So far, the Vanguard have proven to be a great place for her to grow and thrive.
